Conducted field interviews in urban neighborhoods to determine how residents define neighborhood. The goal was to establish a Community of Interest voting districts in Oakland California. Entered responses into SPSS program, created variables and analyzed data. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE Chief of Staff, September to December 2005 Fresno City Council, Council District 3. Worked as Chief of Staff for City Councilwoman Cynthia Sterling. Conducted research on local policy issues. Wrote staff reports and resolutions for City Council consideration. Conducted public relations, which included managing the media, writing speeches etc. Provided case management services to constituents, calendared events, organized and mobilized constituents for campaigns and managed two staff aides. Volunteer Service, City of Los Angeles, Mayors Office, Worked with the City of L.A. Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE). Assisted City of L.A. neighborhood councils to increase Latino political participation. To achieve this objective outreach was targeted at churches, nonprofits and schools. Social Worker, State of New Jersey, Division of Youth and Family Services, Newark, New Jersey. Provided case management services to probation and foster youth; made recommendations to juvenile court and counseled youth. Outreach Advisor, Independent Living Skills Program California Community College Foundation, Los Angeles, CA Recruit probation and foster youth for independent living skills classes. Acted as a resource person for dependents terminated from State of California Child Welfare system. Social Worker, Fresno County Department of Social Services/ Child Protective Services, Fresno, California. Provided case management services to probation and foster youth; made recommendations to juvenile court and counseled youth. 3
