1 Saskatoon Sept 20-25, 2015 The Labour-Management Relations Certificate The Labour-Management Relations Certificate program offered by the Edwards School of Business and the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy is an intensive 5 day program intended for union representatives, human resource managers, labour relations officers, and people who operate in a unionized setting. Receive 37 Recertification Points towards your Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation Modules on collective bargaining, mediation, the legal framework, and arbitration, among others, will deliver immediately useful skills and knowledge. Each module incorporates active learning through case analysis, group discussions or role playing. A collective bargaining simulation is included. Instructors are drawn from leading practitioners and academics from western Canada. A Labour-Management Relations Certificate is awarded to each participant who completes the program.

He has been appointed to thousands of arbitration cases and is a named arbitrator in a number of collective agreements. He is an emeritus professor of the University of Calgary and special lecturer in the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan. Allen is president-elect of the National Academy of Arbitrators, the leading professional association of labour arbitrators in United States and Canada. Daphne is Dean of the Edwards School of Business at University of Saskatchewan; previously a professor, Associate Dean (Research), and Director of the PhD Program at the Haskayne School of Business. Daphne has mediated labour disputes, facilitated unionmanagement committees, and provided training in conflict resolution. She was expert advisor to the Federal Labour Standards Commission, and was awarded the US-based Labor and Employment Relations Association s Excellence in Education Award. allenponak scottwalsworth Dionne Pohler is an Assistant Professor at the Johnson- Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy and an associate faculty member with the Edwards School of Business. Her research focuses on union impact, employee voice and involvement, governance and compensation, and strategic HRM. She has published her work in top academic journals, and received an international research award from the Labor and Employment Relations Association (United States) for her research on the labour-management relationship. Scott is an Associate Professor of Industrial Relations at the Edwards School of Business. His research examines the effect of unions on various measures of firm performance, such as innovation, employment and profits. In his role as the Hanlon Scholar in International Business, he also researches the immigration experiences of skilled workers, mostly from India. dionnepohler Gary Entwistle joined the University of Saskatchewan after practicing public accounting with KPMG in both Canada and New Zealand. His research is primarily in the areas of financial accounting and reporting and accounting standard setting. During Gary was the President of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association. Gary has also served as Associate Dean and Department Head in the Edwards School of Business. bethbilson Beth is a Professor in the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan, as well as an Associate Professor at the Johnson Shoyama School of Public Policy, teaching and writing in the areas of torts, labour and administrative law, and legal history. Beth has extensive experience in grievance, collective bargaining, and labour arbitration, and has received numerous regional and national awards for her work. garyentwistle
3 Program highlights A program which is practical, while also being informed with academic expertise, the Labour-Management Relations Certificate program addresses the major issues surrounding collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, mediation, legislation, and labour board remedies. In addition to providing bargaining simulation experience and practical tools, the content of this program moves beyond labourmanagement relations to examine topics from broad political and economic contexts. This program offers a rare opportunity for union, management, and neutrals to come together in a safe learning environment to trade perspectives, share ideas, and use a collaborative approach to generate solutions that add value for all parties. As a Labour Relations Officer, I want a more effective approach to staff development and education that gives both Union and Management representatives the skills and confidence to foster better collaborative relationships. The Labour-Management Relations program does that. It equips us to work in challenging environments, in both the public and private sectors. GST# RT0001 Labour-Management Relations Certificate advisory board michaelatkinson Michael Atkinson is the Executive Director of the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy. From 1997 to 2007, he served as the Provost and Vice-President Academic at the University of Saskatchewan. Michael is a graduate of the University of Alberta, and holds a PhD from Carleton University. For 20 years, he taught at McMaster University, where he also chaired the Department of Political Science and served as Associate Vice-President Academic. He served at the President of the Canadian Political Science Association for the term. laurasommervill Laura has a LLB and BA from the University of Saskatchewan. She is a Director, Human Resources at the University, focusing in labour relations and primarily conflict resolution, grievance, arbitration, employment and provincial legislation actions. glennbillingsley Glenn Billingsley started working for the Government of Saskatchewan in 1992 with the Ministry of Central Services. In 2005 he was elected to the SGEU Public Service Local 1101 as President, where he was responsible 6000 SGEU Public Service Sector members. In 2009 and after this elected experience, he was afforded the opportunity to work with SGEU as a Labour Relations Officer at the Saskatoon Regional Office, where he continues to service the membership of SGEU.
