Areas of expertise include negotiations, mediation, arbitration, conflict resolution and process design, team building and advising clients on strategic issues. Work Experience Cole Consulting 2013 to present Consulting to public and private sector unions on collective bargaining, mediation and arbitration. In particular my practice focuses on police, fire fighters and airline pilots and includes organizational development and administration. I am also a trustee on a large municipal pension plan. 2 Nelligan O Brien Payne, LLP 2001 to 2013 Founding leader of the firm s consulting group. The first of its kind within a Canadian law firm, the Consulting Group provides advice and professional services for public and private sector employee organizations. Scope of practice includes negotiations, arbitration, conflict resolution design/coaching, organizational development, leading continuing education seminars to labour and management audiences covering various legal and organizational issues. Author of numerous publications on fire fighter and police negotiations distributed electronically across North America. Provide instruction and assistance to lawyers on issues related to negotiations and strategy. Chair of Labour Practice Group s Business Development Committee. hypernet 2009 to 2013 Vice-President of Customer Relations. hypernet is a partner organization with Nelligan O Brien Payne specializing in the creation of sector-specific software. I was responsible for software design for use by fire fighter, police, airline pilots and health care employee associations in managing grievances and occupational injuries and illnesses. Carleton University Faculty of Public Affairs 2006 to 2010 Contract instructor in the Faculty of Public Affairs - Department of Law, teaching thirdyear labour law. Ottawa Fire Department 1983 to 2001 Over eighteen years of service with the City of Ottawa Fire Department including all aspects of fire fighting, emergency medical services, hazardous materials containment, vehicle extrication, water rescue and public education. Member of various Department committees on policy development, strategic planning, diversity, equipment and resource management. Ottawa Professional Fire Fighters Association 1986 to 2001 President of the Ottawa Professional Fire Fighters Association (OPFFA) from 1994 to Responsible for all operations including negotiations, grievances, media and membership communications, and pension and benefit administration. Managed an operating budget of approximately $1 million, and the work of twelve people delivering services to 1,200 active and retired fire fighters. Chair of the Association Transition Committee, overseeing the amalgamation of five fire fighter associations. Representative on Regional Task Force on ambulance services. 2
