5 The RHC-Platform mission Technology innovation is vital to ensure that reliable, cost-effective and environmentally-friendly biomass heating and cooling solutions are delivered to different types of consumers in Europe The RHC-Platform brings together stakeholders from the biomass, geothermal and solar thermal sectors - including the related cross-cutting technologies - to define a common strategy to make RHC a strong contributor to the future sustainable energy system Aims to accelerate technological developments by maximizing synergies and strengthening efforts towards research, development and innovation in the sector

6 The RHC-Platform structure Since 2008, a competent structure managed by 4 associations has built up a strong network of industry and research stakeholders in the renewable heating and cooling sector

14 Outlook on 2014 up to June 2014 Since 2011 supported by the European Commission The current FP7 Grant Agreement with EC is expected to be extended until the end of June 2014 Upcoming activities: - Online public consultation of the Biomass Technology Roadmap - Industry endorsement of the 4 Roadmaps (ongoing) - Common RHC-Platform Implementation Plan (nomination of 2 biomass representatives for the HWG) - Elections

15 Outlook on 2014 after June 2014 New EC strategy paper on ETPs (12 July 2013) Art 10. Funding Given the ETPs' bottom-up character, the Commission will not fund costs such as ETP secretariats. ETPs should rely on self-organisation and financing. However, ETPs will be able to respond to competitive funding calls for coordinating and support actions by the Commission for specific activities such as the development of Technology Roadmaps, fostering collaboration between ETPs to address cross-sectoral challenges and networking events for stakeholders An opportunity for future funding of the activities of the Platform may come from the launch of a relevant call by the EC in 2014

16 Outlook on 2014 after June 2014 RHC-Platform mission 2014: - Catalyse the establishment of effective public-private projects and provide a qualified interface between the EU and Member States for coherent research policy development Industrial involvement crucial Take the lead: express your interest for future involvement and share your suggestions and ideas for future activities of the Platform
