2 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY CHILD DEVELOPMENT The Child Development program at Palo Verde College serves an important need in the community. It is a solid contributor to the job market introducing students with various levels of education and training. The CHD faculty are highly trained and experienced. The Child Development program generates predictable income well above expenses. The college supports the program with instructional equipment, classroom and office space and community programs such as the Child Development Center. The college is the primary agency providing instruction in Child Development in the community. Students completing the program may be employed at various levels corresponding to their education and experience. The program review committee recommends that the following goals be achieved by the end of the academic year: An application for the master teacher certification program will be completed and submitted to Region 9 and the state for approval. The CHD faculty will complete the implementation of the California Community College EC/DC Curriculum Alignment Project (CAP) 2007/2008. As a result of the successful Interactive Television offering of CHD classes in Blythe and Needles, program faculty will continue to offer more courses via ITV. This approach is expected to keep course offerings within a two-year cycle, increase course enrollments and provide degree and certificate award opportunities to students at both the Needles Center and Main Campus. 3 PART 1: PURPOSE OF THIS PROGRAM The curriculum in Child Development studies is designed to meet certification requirements established by the Commission for Teacher Preparation and Licensing for the Children s Center Permit and field work experience as described by the Commission. The curriculum also offers students training in the necessary understanding, knowledge, practice, and skills to qualify for the occupations of teacher and teacher aide. 8 PART 6: TWO- YEAR PLAN An application for the master teacher certification program will be completed and submitted to region 9 and the state for approval.
