The CDE maj includes required courses in child development and general education electives. Child Education is the study of the physical, psychosocial and cognitive growth and development of the child from conception through adolescence. The purpose of this maj is to provide a sound academic program in Child and to prepare students to wk with and advocate f children and families in a variety of school and community settings. In addition to theetical principles, the curriculum offers practical skills and on-site training that will prepare students f employment in the field of Education. Child and Education students pursue careers in childcare, preschool teaching and administration, early intervention services, parent education, primary, secondary and post-secondary education, teaching and suppting children with special needs wking with a variety of counseling, social service and community agencies. The program fulfills the required child development course wk f the State issued Child Permit. Infmation regarding this permit and/ the Child and Education and Early Intervention and Inclusion Certificates is available from the CDE Department. All course wk leading to a certificate degree must be completed with a minimum grade of C (2.0) better. Career Opptunities All career opptunities listed are representative careers in each field. 2 Communication Deaf Culture Elementary Education CDE PERMIT: Associate Teacher Health & Safety Infant/Toddler Language and Literacy Nutrition Science Transfer Preparation MSJC offers a range of course wk to prepare students to transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Courses that fulfill maj requirements f an associate degree in this program might not be the same as those required f transfer into the maj at a four year university. All fouryear institutions prescribe their own standards f course evaluation and admissions. Prospective transfer students are advised to research careers, degrees and majs in the Career/ Transfer Center, access review the MSJC catalog and meet with a counsel to expedite their transfer plan. Learning Outcomes Develop and effectively communicate a philosophy of education based on research and developmental theies that demonstrate a commitment to developmentally appropriate and responsive practice. Become permit and/ transfer eligible and thus prepared to enter the wkfce. Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning including personal and professional development and responsibility. Demonstrate an understanding of and advocate f the diverse needs of children and families within the context of a rapidly changing and highly diverse society. Instructional Programs Demonstrate professionalism based upon the NAEYC Code of Ethics. Degrees A.S. in Child and Education (4) An Associate of Science (AS) degree in Child and Education may be earned by completing the 4 required f the MSJC Child and Education Certificate, and all MSJC General Education Option A requirements. A.S. in Early Intervention and Inclusion (4) An Associate of Science (AS) degree in Early Intervention and Inclusion may be earned by completing the 4 required f the MSJC Child and Education Certificate, and all MSJC General Education Option A requirements. Certificates Certificate in Child and Education (4) * Indicates that these courses are recommended f the 12-unit Title XXII licensing requirement f employment in privately owned early childhood education programs. ** Indicates that pri TB and criminal recd clearance must be shown. (It is recommended that students begin this clearance process while enrolled in CDE-101).
