5 About This Book The vrealize Operations Management Pack for vcloud Air Guide takes you through the process of deploying a working instance of the Management Pack for vcloud Air within your vcenter environment. The vrealize Operations Management Pack for vcloud Air Guide also describes how to monitor the Management Pack for vcloud Air environment. Intended Audience This information is intended for the following users. Any IT administrator who is involved with the daily operations related to deployment, configuration, change management, troubleshooting, and capacity management of infrastructure deployed in VMware vcloud Air. Any cloud operations manager, cloud infrastructure manager, or virtual administrator who has operation responsibility for troubleshooting infrastructure problems deployed on VMware vcloud Air. 6 vrealize Operations Management Pack for vcloud Air 2.0 Introduction to the vrealize Operations Management Pack for vcloud Air 1 The vrealize Operations Management Pack for vcloud Air extends the operational management capabilities of the vrealize Operations platform to the infrastructure deployed on vcloud Air. The vrealize Operations Management Pack for vcloud Air provides the following features: Visibility of all the resources deployed on vcloud Air including vcloud Air Clouds, Virtual Data Centers, Virtual Machines, vapps, vapp Templates, Edge gateways, and gateway services such as firewalls, SSL VPN, IPsec VPN, load balancer and so on. Search and drill down capability for obtaining the operations health of deployed vcloud Air resources. Exhaustive list of Symptoms and alerts for the detection of misconfiguration, connectivity, and health problems. All alerts are consolidated in a vrealize Operations alert interface. Extension of the core vrealize Operations health and risk analytics engine for the inclusion of vcloud Air object key performance and health indicators. Detailed capacity analysis for all the resources deployed in vcloud Air. 6 VMware, Inc.

7 Installing and Configuring the Management Pack 2 When you install a management pack, you install the PAK file that you downloaded as part of the solution, and you configure the management pack instance. This chapter includes the following topics: Install the Management Pack, on page 8 Configure the Management Pack, on page 9 Install the Management Pack A management pack is the part of the solution that you install. Prerequisites The solution that you downloaded includes a PAK file. Save that PAK file to a temporary folder on your local system. te: Please ensure that Advanced Networking Services are installed on your cloud before installing or upgrading the Management Pack. Procedure 1 Log in to the vrealize Operations Manager user interface with admin privileges. 2 In the left pane of vrealize Operations Manager, click the Administration icon and click Solutions. 3 On the Solutions tab, click the plus sign. 4 Browse to locate the temporary folder and select the PAK file. For example, managementpack_name-buildnumber.pak. 5 Click Upload. The upload might take several minutes. 6 Read and accept the EULA, and click Next. VMware, Inc. 7

8 vrealize Operations Management Pack for vcloud Air 2.0 Installation details appear in the window during the process. 7 Ensure that you install the PAK file on the master node. 8 When the installation is complete, click Finish. What to do next Configure an adapter instance for the management pack. Configure the Management Pack After you install the management pack, configure an instance for the vcloud Air from which you are collecting data. Procedure 1 In the left pane of vrealize Operations Manager, click the Administration icon, and click Solutions. 2 Select Management Pack for vcloud Air and click the Configure icon. 3 Configure the instance settings. Field Name Display Name Description Description Unique Name for the adapter instance. ( Optional) Describe the instance. 4 To add the credentials used to access the vcloud Air, click the plus sign. The role of the user name in the vcloud Air should have Resource Management Roles ("Virtual Infrastructure Administrator" and "Network Administrator") or higher. Enter the user name of the vcloud Air account Enter the password of the vcloud Air account 5 Click Test Connection to validate the connection. 6 Accept the certificate, if it s shown. 7 (Optional) Configure Advanced Settings The Advanced Settings area includes the Collector drop-down box, in which you can configure the following settings. Option Collector Description Collector on which the vcloud Air adapter instance will run. A collector gathers objects into its inventory for monitoring. 11 Displaying Management Pack for vcloud Air Dashboards Management Pack for vcloud Air dashboards are displayed in the vrealize Operations Manager Home pane after the management pack is installed. If you have numerous dashboards open in vrealize Operations Manager, the vcloud Air dashboards may not be visible. Procedure 1 In the left pane of vrealize Operations Manager click the Home icon. 2 In the right pane, click Dashboard List, and from the drop-down menu point to vcloud Air and select the vcloud Air dashboard you want to work with. The selected dashboard is displayed in the vrealize Operations Manager Home page. 3 To ensure that Management Pack for vcloud Air dashboards are always available in the Home page, click Dashboards List, and ensure that the vcloud Air check box is selected. vcloud Air Troubleshooting Dashboard The vcloud Air Troubleshooting dashboard widgets provide an overview of the health of the vcloud Air objects, active symptoms, relationship topology and interesting metrics. Table 3 1. vcloud Air Troubleshooting Dashboard Widgets Widget vcloud Air Object (Search to Find Specific Objects) Description Displays a list of the resources that you are currently monitoring. When you select an object in this widget, the other widgets in the dashboard show data for the selected resource. You can search a resource in this widget. VMware, Inc. 11

12 vrealize Operations Management Pack for vcloud Air 2.0 vcloud Air Relationship Displays a top level topology view of the following resources with their health: MP for vcloud Air Instance: Configured Adapter instances. vcloud Air Cloud: Cloud resources provisioned on vcloud Air. This is the capacity you purchased in vcloud Air. vcloud Air Virtual Data Center: These are the datacenters you carved out of your cloud. Virtual data centers provide an environment where virtual machines can be created, stored, and operated, enabling complete abstraction between the consumption of infrastructure service and underlying resources. Data centers also provide storage for virtual media vcloud Air vapp: A preconfigured virtual machine in vcloud Director that packages applications and parameters that define operational details. A vapp packages applications with their required operating system. vcloud Air Virtual Machine: Virtual machines provisioned in the virtual data center. vcloud Air Edge Gateway: Gateways that you configured in the Virtual Data center. Gateway provides a routed connection between a virtual data center's network and an external network. It can provide network services such as DHCP, firewall, NAT, VPN, static routing, and load balancing. vrealize Operations provide badges that use scores to determine the condition of a resource in a specific area, such as CPU, memory, disk and bandwidth usage. Each badge issues a score through a colored icon that is based on pre-defined badge score thresholds. Point to a resource to view a summary of the health score. Click a component to see the associated symptoms, interesting metrics and health, anomalies and events mash up widgets. Ordered Symptoms (Select Object in vcloud Air Relationship) Lists active symptoms associated with the selected object. In the vcloud Air relationship widget Interesting Metrics (Select Object in vcloud Air Relationship) Health, Anomalies, Event Mash up (Select Object in vcloud Air Relationship) Interesting metrics that are useful for troubleshooting A mash up chart that shows a health chart, an anomaly count graph, and metric graphs for key performance indicators (KPIs) for the selected resource. 12 VMware, Inc.

13 vcloud Air Alerts Dashboard The vcloud Air Alerts dashboard widgets provide the list of alerts for the objects it is configured to monitor. Widget vcloud Air Alerts Health Tree Interesting Metrics Description Displays all the alerts open in the vcloud Air environment. Displays health status tree of the affected resource of the selected alert. Interesting metrics that are related to the alert vcloud Air Heat Maps The vcloud Air Heat Maps dashboard contains graphical indicators that display the current value of virtual machine CPU, memory, disk and network loads. Widget CPU Load Memory Load Disk Load Description Heat Maps based on VMs CPU Usage (%) and CPU Ready (%) Heat Maps based on VMs Memory Usage (%), Memory Swap In Rate (KBps) and (%), Memory Swap out Rate (KBps) Heat Maps based on VMs Disk Usage Rate (KBps) Network Load Heat Maps based on VMs Network Usage Rate (KBps) You can select any one of the color boxes in the heat map chart to display spark line charts. vcloud Air Cloud Utilization The vcloud Air Cloud Utilization dashboard provides you with the details of top N clouds by high utilization that are provisioned in your vcloud Air account. You can click on a row to display a sparkline chart for the history of the usage. vcloud Air Data Center Utilization The vcloud Air Data Center Utilization dashboard provides you with the details of top N Virtual Data Centers by high utilization that are provisioned in your vcloud Air account. You can click on a row to display a sparkline chart for the history of the usage. VMware, Inc. 13

14 vrealize Operations Management Pack for vcloud Air 2.0 vcloud Air Data Center Capacity Usage The vcloud Air Data Center Capacity Usage dashboard provides you with the details of CPU, memory and storage capacity workload utilization in % with color (red, green, orange) signifying the capacity risk. vcloud Air VM Utilization The vcloud Air VM Utilization dashboard provides you with the details of top N Virtual Machines by high utilization that are provisioned in your vcloud Air account. This gives a quick overview of virtual machines which are resource intensive. vcloud Air VM Performance The vcloud Air VM Performance dashboard provides you with the details of top N worst performing Virtual Machines that are provisioned in your vcloud Air account. This gives a quick overview of virtual machines which are not performing well. vcloud Air Edge Utilization The vcloud Air Edge Utilization dashboard provides you with the details of top N Gateways by high utilization that are provisioned in your vcloud Air account. This gives a quick overview of Gateways that are resource intensive. vcloud Air Edge Performance The vcloud Air Edge Performance dashboard provides you with the details of top N low performing Gateways by utilization that are provisioned in your vcloud Air account. This gives a quick overview of Gateways which are not performing well. vcloud Air Edge Overview The vcloud Air Edge Performance dashboard provides a graphical presentation of the health, risk, and efficiency of all the Gateway services in the environment. The widgets display the current status, the status for a previous time period of the health, risk, and the efficiency of the service of all gateways. vcloud Air Edge Services The vcloud Air Edge Services dashboard provides you with the widgets for each service of top N Gateways by service utilization. This includes aggregated uplink statistics on all the uplink interfaces of an edge, DHCP pool usage, firewall connections etc. 14 VMware, Inc.

15 Working with the Management Pack for vcloud Air 4 The Management Pack for vcloud Air provides you with a high-level view of your vcloud Air environment and enables you to drill down to more object-specific information by navigating from one dashboard to another, and also by opening selected objects in external applications. You can investigate problems and better analyze the provided information. You can also make configuration changes, as required. This chapter includes the following topics: Troubleshooting Issues, on page 16 Access vrealize Operations Manager Tools, on page 16 Open an External Application, on page 17 Troubleshooting Issues To troubleshoot an issue you can navigate among dashboards to find out the root cause. For example, if a resource has an alert in vcloud Air Alerts dashboard, you can select the resource and navigate to the resource to find the health, risk and efficiency details and analyze capacity or performance issues. For further troubleshooting, you can access vrealize Operations Manager Tools to dig into specific metric trends. Access vrealize Operations Manager Tools In addition to troubleshooting problems by analyzing Management Pack for vcloud Air dashboards, you can also access the vrealize Operations Manager tools. For example, if you double-click an object or alert in a Management Pack for vcloud Air dashboard, you display tabs that help you monitor and respond to problems. Most useful is the Troubleshooting tab from which you can access the All Metrics tab that provides a topological map and metrics for the selected object. Open an External Application The Management Pack for vcloud Air includes the ability to link to another application for information about an object. Open an object in another application if you need to display information that you cannot get from vrealize Operations Manager, or when you need to make configuration changes. VMware, Inc. 15

16 vrealize Operations Management Pack for vcloud Air 2.0 The Management Pack for vcloud Air enables you to access more information about specific objects, and configure them if required in vcloud Air. Open in vcloud Air Open objects in vcloud Air portal to view additional information about an object, or make configuration changes. Procedure 1 Select an object in a widget. 2 In the widget toolbar, click the Dashboard Navigation icon, and select Launch <component> in vcloud Air. vcloud Air page opens in another tab. Information about the object is displayed. te: If you have not yet logged in to the vcloud Air, you will be prompted to login for the first time. You also need to open the subscription tile.
