Lynette Nunn, Healthcare Solutions Consultant, Fifth Third Bank This presentation will provide an overview of the healthcare payment landscape and the industry move toward consumer directed healthcare. It will also review the bundled payment model and provide an update on ACO formations. In addition, as the January 1, 2014 date for insurance coverage through the Health Insurance Exchange approaches, this presentation will provide updates on the expected impact the exchanges will have on payer reimbursements and overall patient coverage.
3 High level understanding of expected growth in healthcare expenditures and the importance of understanding the impact of consumer directed healthcare on the provider's bottom line. Receive updated information regarding bundled payments and progression of ACOs. Realize the shared challenges across providers for obtaining payments and managing collections. Review and understand Health Insurance Exchanges and the general impact to payer reimbursements. Obtain recommendations to ease the pain of the payment cycle and realize healthcare payments opportunities. 2:00-2:15 Break 2:15-3:15 Optimizing the Value Proposition- Medical Practices and Hospitals Skip Balkenbusch, President/CEO, GroundUp Healthcare, LLC; CEO, Associated Anesthesiologists of Fort Wayne, P.C. This session will cover: 1. The core three questions for every healthcare manager - top to bottom of the organization. 2. Initial alignment thrust and consolidation of medical practices. 3. Controlling referrals but zero control over patient or care costs. 4. The balance: What is your balance point? Targeting hospital costs, care costs OR maximizing revenues? 5. Where do care outcomes have a role in your strategic vision? FACULTY Michael Nowicki, FHFMA, EdD, FACHE Dr. Michael Nowicki is a professor of health administration at Texas State University, where his teaching, research, and service have been recognized with several university awards including teacher-of-the-year. Prior to joining academe, Dr. Nowicki was Director of Process Management in the Hospital Division of Humana for six years. Dr. Nowicki has provided recent training support to such organizations as the Indiana National Guard, Cardinal Health, Kaiser Permanente, University Hospitals in Cleveland, HCA, Mercy Hospitals of Northern Ohio, Baylor Healthcare System, and Howard University Hospital. Dr. Nowicki received his doctorate in educational policy studies and evaluation from the University of Kentucky, his master's in healthcare administration from The George Washington University, and his bachelor's in political science from Texas Tech University. Dr. Nowicki is board-certified in healthcare management and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Dr. Nowicki is also board-certified in healthcare financial management and is a Fellow in the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). Related to HFMA, Dr. Nowicki has served as president of the South Texas Chapter, regional executive for Region 9, and national board member serving as chair of the Chapter Services Council and the Council of Forums. Dr. Nowicki has presented financial management seminars to audiences worldwide including the Russian Ministry of Health in Moscow, Russian hospital executives in Golitsyno, Estonian hospital executives in Tallin, Indonesian hospital executives visiting the University of Massachusetts, as well as numerous audiences in the United States.
4 Skip Balkenbusch, CEO, Associated Anesthesiologists of Fort Wayne, P.C. Mr. Balkenbusch is a graduate of the Purdue University nursing program and has additional training in business, biology, geology and physics. Early on he served on the Fort Wayne faculty for Indiana University engaged in healthcare administration and the public utility model for emergency services. He has served in various healthcare managerial roles though his general focus has involved medical practices and medical practice business models. In 1996 he joined Associated Anesthesiologists of Fort Wayne, P.C. as CEO and is proud to participate in their aggressive growth as they target being more than 100 providers by the beginning of During this time he has also consulted with numerous medical practices, hospitals, and anesthesia practices throughout the Midwest on topics that often center around practice business models and governance. His think tank, GroundUp Healthcare, LLC, has hosted several larger corporations to consider ground up revision, capital investment, and reorganization of healthcare services - long before current federal initiatives became fashionable. Lynette Nunn, Vice President, Healthcare Solutions Consultant, Fifth Third Bank Lynette S. Nunn is a National Healthcare Solutions Consultant at Fifth Third Bank. In her current role she specializes in the payment process of healthcare providers through sales support of RevLink Solutions SM. She utilizes her knowledge of the complex federal regulations within Healthcare Reform (PPACA) to properly advise clients with customized banking solutions to improve cash flow. Lynette has been invited to speak at various regional conferences of national healthcare organizations across the Midwest. With over 10 years of commercial banking experience, she has a comprehensive understanding of the revenue cycle and how management of the key elements within the cycle directly impacts sustainable growth. Lynette holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.
