The imported data is processed as SAP data records. The creation of the import files can be tailored to customer requests with highly configurable settings. This means that users without SAP knowledge can also use the exchange tool. Moreover, existing SAP master data can be extracted to Microsoft Excel or other file formats. 7 FIS/mpm Component Central Master Data System Component Central Master Data System The Central Master Data System (CMS) for master data and conditions enables the central maintenance of general data (material master, vendors, prices etc.) as well as the subsequent automated updating of defined target systems. The inbound processing of the central master data on the CMS is effected - via different import sources with FIS/mpm or - manually via the maintenance transactions. The distribution of the master data to the target systems is effectively monitored by a cockpit function. Consequently, problems that may occur can be identified and resolved at an early stage. At target system level, the basic data on the CMS is expanded (depending on location) by relevant views (plant/warehouse and valuation data etc). This can be made either automatically via default values or manually via a locally installed FIS/mpm. The data transfer to the target systems is based on change pointers being updated per object and target system. SAP PI (Process Integration) is used as central communication tool for the transfer of changed data to the target systems. It is also responsible for the routing of transfer data.
