Gas Fossil power plant remain dominant ( 81 % ), mainly Coal Steam Power Plant with 63 % Coal share by To reduce oil consumption from 21 % ( 2011) to 3 % by Development of renewable Geothermal Hydro energy resources will be first priority. 3
4 OPPORTUNITY & CHALLENGES OPPORTUNITY Need of infrastructures to support the economic growth. High electricity demand growth of about 8.5% annualy. Abundant Renewable energy potential. Total of 12 GW new additional RE plants has been planned until 2020 and 55 % expected to be developed by private ( IPP ). CHALLENGES Regulation aspects and permits. Needs of huge funding. Environment and social issues. Low electrification ratio (73%) as well as average electricity consumption rate per capita of about 655 kwh annualy. 4
5 PLN Plan on Renewable Energy PLN plan to increase its RE energy mix for electricity generation by including the scenario in General Plan of Electricity Development (RUPTL ). RE Development will be progressed intensively due to its potential, technology development, and economic viability. PLN has set up the policy to developed Solar as an hybrid system with existing Diesel Biomass or other RE potentials in a remote area and small island, to respond with GOI policy to reduce oil consumption. 5

13 REQUIRED REGULATION SKEMA PARTISIPASI SWASTA To accelerate the time required for permit process of using the forestry area. (Geothermal, Hydro and related transmission) Sincronization of the regulation and issuing of technical guidence for implementation of MoMR Decree No. 22/2012 about Geothermal FiT. Large scale Hydro power concession proposed to be issued through a competitive bidding by the Central/Local Government and the location permit will be issued for the selected Developer by the local Government. Mini Hydro location permit issued by the Local Government should be in-line with the optimum River Basin Master Plan. To accelerate the RE Development need regulation improvement. 13
14 Summary and Conclusion Utilization of Green Energy has been considered to be part of PLN scenario in securing electricity supply and becoming an environmentally friendly enterprise. To meet electricity demand, a total of 12 GW new additional RE plants has been planned for the next ten years and 55 % expected to be developed by private ( IPP ). Indonesia has abundant RE potential, as for supporting the energy conservation policy and to reduce oil consumption, Hydropower and Geothermal dominate the RE development program. PLN plan to developed Solar as an hybrid system with existing Diesel, Biomass or other RE potentials in a small islands, to respond with GOI policy to reduce oil consumption. To accelerate RE development need regulation improvement. 14
