1 2017 Camp Rodney Program Opportunities MERIT BADGES Animation *New to RSR in 2017* Requirement 5 Archaeology Requirement 11 Will require short papers, class discussions, and presentations for Archery Archery Range Requirement 1c Difficult merit badge to complete. Minimum score required for Free shoot time may be needed to finish. Badge will contain one day of non-shooting for the non-shooting requirements. Art Requirement 7 Astronomy Requirement 9 Requires early morning and late night sessions. Very weather dependent for Athletics Requirement 3 (bring to class) Basketry Bird Study Requires observations and report writing. Requires early morning sessions. Camping Requirements 4, 8c, 8d and 9 needed for Conservation project in requirement 9 can be completed during camp, but recommended to be done ahead of time.
2 Canoeing 3 rd year or older Scouts Boat Yard Chemistry *New to RSR in 2017* Requirement 7 Citizenship in the World One of Requirement 7a, 7b, 7d or 7e Climbing Climbing Tower & 1c Physically demanding, may be difficult for some Scouts. Communication Requirement 1a, 1b, 5 and 7 (write essay about each experience) Introduction to Cooking In this program a Scout will earn a partial in Cooking Merit Badge in camp with a road to completion following the summer. Along with learning about food safety and menu planning, Scouts will learn the skills of cooking. When Scouts finish this program they should have all the skills needed to complete the cooking requirements of this badge. Scouts will be given a completion form that they can return to camp in the off season to have their blue card signed. Cycling Extremely physically demanding, may be difficult for many Scouts. Scouts will complete the Mountain Biking option and should be experienced trail cyclists prior to attempting this badge. 50+ miles of cycling in this badge. Requires early morning rides. Digital Technology 2 nd year or older Scouts Requirement 1 (bring card to class) Requirement 9

Engineering Environmental Science Requirement 6 HALF DAY CLASS Intense and time consuming merit badge. Requires observations and report writing. First Aid Requirement 2d (bring to class) Home first aid kit for requirement 2d must be brought to camp. Fish & Wildlife Management Good preparation for Environmental Science MB. Fishing Practice knots for requirement 4 before camp. Recommended to bring your own gear. Equipment available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Forestry (bring to class) Have footwear for walking in the woods. Bring a notebook. Geocaching Requirement 7. Geology Requirement 4 None
4 Golf Scouts may bring personal golf clubs if they prefer to use them. Scouts will leave camp property to golf on Wednesday immediately following lunch and will return about 9PM. Graphic Arts Requirement 6 Insect Study Requirement 13 Kayaking 2 nd year or older Scouts Boat Yard Leatherwork Lifesaving Requirements 1a, 15 and 17 Strongly encouraged to have previously earned Swimming MB. Must complete Req. 1b (400-yard qualifying swim) at Polar Bear on Monday to participate in class. Need long sleeve shirt, long pants, socks and shoes for 20-second disrobing (req 7e). Mammal Study Requires observations and report writing. Motorboating, 4a and 4b (use pre-req form & bring permit to class) MUST have a certificate of approved boater safety education (by NASBLA) to drive motorboat. Boat shoes needed no aqua socks Moviemaking 3 rd year or older Scouts Requirement 4 Personal digital cameras or digital video cameras are encouraged to be used.

Orienteering Personal Fitness Requirement 1 to be completed at home after camp. The in-camp partial can be completed by submitting a report on Req. 8 by a specified date after camp. Photography Personal digital cameras are encouraged to be used. Pioneering Requirement 2a May be physically demanding. Be familiar with the 7 basic knots. Pottery Requirement 7 & 8 Should wear clothing that can get dirty. Pulp & Paper Reptile & Amphibian Study (bring report to class) Will handle live animals, including snakes! Wood Carving and 2a All materials are provided. Must have Totin Chip card to participate.
8 2017 Camp Rodney Program Opportunities BSA AWARDS Aquatics Supervision- Paddle Craft Safety You must be 16 years old or older to attend this course. Adults are encouraged to participate. Boat Yard BSA Paddle Craft Safety expands Safety Afloat training to include the skills, as well as the knowledge, a unit leader to confidently supervise canoeing or kayaking excursions on flat water. Aquatics Supervision- Swimming & Water Rescue You must be 16 years old or older to attend this course. Adults are encouraged to participate. MUST pass swim test and pre-reqs. Training for BSA Swimming & Water Rescue provides BSA leaders with information and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to swimming emergencies during unit swimming activities. Firem n Chit Mile Swim BSA. Open to adults. 4 hours of distance swimming prior to camp Physically demanding. Paul Bunyan Woodsman Must have Totin Chip Snorkeling BSA. Open to adults with sign-ups at camp, if space permits. Stand-Up Paddleboarding BSA *New to RSR in 2017*. Open to adults with sign-ups at camp, if space permits. 9 2017 Camp Rodney Program Opportunities RODNEY SPECIALS A.C.E. (Advanced Camper Experience) 4 th year and older Scouts. MUST be at least 14-years-old. This high adventure program is only for the advanced camper, no wusses. Are you tough enough? This program combines some of the top tier highlights of each area of camp as well as many activities found in no other areas of camp. Activities include activities such as tomahawk throwing, ice climbing, flying drones, slacklining, advanced wilderness survival, hiking into Elk Neck Park, crate stacking, etc Bay Hike All Scouts and adults. See what the Rodney shoreline has to offer. Brownsea (featured in Scouting Magazine March 2011) 1 st year Scouts ALL-PERIOD CLASS Boat shoes will be needed - no aqua socks. See information regarding Nature MB, and Swimming MB. High Adventure Sailing (H.A.S.) MUST be at least 14-years-old Previous sailing experience equivalent to Small Boat Sailing MB Separate Signups from Camp Registration Must pass swim test. Sail to Baltimore s Inner Harbor and back! Chesapeake Mariner *New to RSR in 2017* 4 th year and older Scouts. Open to adults with sign-ups at camp, if space permits. Have earned Small- Boat Sailing MB. Evening Program Culminates in the Rodney Regatta. Instructional Swimming Non-Swimmers and Beginners staff will work with Scouts or adults to gain confidence in the pool; with the goal of passing the swim test. Iron Man Physically fit Scouts and adults. Troop Competition involving a variety of physical skills around camp.
10 Jetski RSR MUST be at least 16-years-old MUST have a certificate of approved boater safety education (by NASBLA). Boat shoes needed no aqua socks Mile Swim Race in the Bay 1 Scout swimmer per Troop Completion of Mile Swim BSA Should be a very strong swimmer to participate. Every swimmer must have a watch boat with 2 experienced canoe paddlers provided by their Troop. This will be a timed race. Monster Bike Physically fit and adults. Physically rigorous, must participate in the Monday prep ride. For the experienced trail rider, includes a strenuous, mountainous trail ride. Scouts may use personal bikes once inspected by our Health & Fitness staff. Trail Breakfast included on the ride. Night Climbing All Scouts and adults Climbing Tower Scouts must bring a headlamp. Can be purchased in the Trading Post if needed. Night-time Orienteering Adults welcome and encouraged. Learn how to find your way around at night. Night Swim All Scouts and adults Troops will be assigned a night for night swim at the Sunday s Meeting. Polar Bear Swim All Scouts and adults Take a swim first thing in the morning! Troops will be assigned days at the Sunday s Meeting. Rodney Regatta Have earned Small- Boat Sailing MB. This is a sailing race in the Bay. Current or previous participation in High Performance Sailing is recommended. Troop Naturalist All Troops By appointment with the Nature Director.
11 2017 Camp Rodney Program Opportunities LEADERS ONLY Leather Craft Advance sign-ups not necessary Climbing Climbing Tower Requires an in-camp sign-up physically fit leaders Golf Tournament Requires an in-camp sign-up. Will have a minimal cost (under $40). Use of personal equipment is encouraged, rentals are available at the club. You will play at a local country club Jetski Requires an in-camp sign-up. MUST have a certificate of approved boater safety education (by NASBLA) to drive jetski. (if born after July 1, 1972) Boat shoes needed no aqua socks Rifle Shooting Rifle Range Advance sign-ups not necessary Prizes may be awarded! Water Skiing Requires an in-camp sign-up those with basic experience Boat shoes needed no aqua socks BSA Trainings BSA Trainings covered at Rodney may include: Chartered Organization Rep. Training Climb On Safely Leave No Trace Awareness Introduction to Outdoor Skills Safe Swim Defense Safety Afloat Scoutmaster Position Specific Trek Safely Troop Committee Challenge Exact times and locations of leader activities and a schedule of available leader training opportunities will be provided at the camp leader meeting on Sunday evening following the camp-wide dinner.
