1 Camp Emerald Bay 2016 Congratulations! You are going to one of the premier Scout camps in the United States. You are among a select group of Scouts who will experience the sun and fun in the pirate s cove, just south of Los Angeles, California. Emerald Bay has a rich history and those of us who have gone before have never forgotten our days in Scout paradise. This packet contains lots of important information for you, including what to bring and what not to bring, options on what to do when you get there, forms, and more. Forms and Camp Emerald Bay notes are at the end. Let s get started! Page 1 of 7
2 First, some important facts: When: The troop is meeting at the parking lot of Terrible s/mcdonald s parking lot on Ann Road, near US95. We depart on Sunday, June 19, at 5am sharp. We will travel to San Pedro, California. From there we will ferry across to Santa Catalina Island and Camp Emerald Bay, on the Northeast tip of the island. We will return to the mainland on Saturday, June 25, stop for lunch, with an expected arrival to Las Vegas around 9pm. Phone calls will be made to parents en route. Accompanying and responsible for the boys are two-three trained troop leaders, including the Scoutmaster. There will be a mandatory gear dress rehearsal on Friday, June 17 at 6pm at the departure point. All scouts attending camp must come as if they are ready to proceed to camp. All forms must be checked in at this time, no exceptions! Everything going to camp with the scout must be brought to this meeting, including uniforms, no exceptions! We will store the gear in the troop trailer at that time. Please follow strictly the guidelines contained in this guide for size and markings of gear. Cost: $725, which includes your six day/six-night stay at camp, your meals, and transportation. Your lunch going and coming to/from camp is also covered. You should eat breakfast on Sunday before departing for camp. Built into this cost is the fees for sending the two adult leaders, who are already contributing two weeks vacation to attend with our youth. the fees paid. An initial, non-refundable $200 deposit ensures your slot. You will be billed on your account $100 per month thereafter and a final payment of $150 must be paid by March 30th, As none of these monies are refundable to the troop, they are not refundable to you. If something arises, you can sell your slot to another scout or forfeit You will need another $75-$85 in spending money for incidental expenses like snacks, souvenirs, merit badge supplies, and so forth. The amount depends on what classes you are taking, if you are going to need rentals, etc. Bring the money in the form of $1, $5, and $10 bills please. (To avoid any problems it is customary for this money to be collected and maintained on account with the Scoutmaster for the duration of the camp.) Page 2 of 7
