This process is labour intensive and makes it difficult to ensure consistent insulation. By contrast the Lagan Chimney System offers modular, prefabricated units to speed construction and facilitate consistent quality standards. General Uses Designed for speed of construction An 8 meter internal chimney can be constructed from ground floor to chimney pot in 5 hours. Suitable for, Steel Frame, ICF (Insulated Concrete Formwork) & Masonry construction Solutions have been specifically designed to meet the requirement of timber framed construction. Modular units for easy assembly on site Multi Fuel Compatible Suitable for all fuels - gas, oil, wood and solid fuels. Everything you need All the components required to construct the chimney from the ground floor to the chimney pot are supplied on one or two pallets. Superior Insulation The consistency of the insulation maintains the temperature of the flue gases allowing them to pass freely up the chimney. Back filling of insulation is not required. 3 The Lagan Chimney Systems Concept The Lagan Chimney System is designed to offer fast and efficient erection on site and is suitable for all types of domestic heat appliances. They can accomodate both open fire and closed appliances using fuels with an output of up to 45 kilowatts. The system is delivered to site in component form on pallets and contains all the material neccessary to construct a chimney from the base to chimney pot. The Lagan Chimney System is ideal for Open Fires, Stoves, Cookers and Central Heating Boilers. Lagan Chimney Systems is part of the Lagan Group. In keeping with the standards expected from such a prestigious pedigree, the group is certified to EN ISO Product Description The Lagan Chimney System is a prefabricated, insulated chimney system for use in domestic accomodation. The chimney systems are available in 11 options as detailed throughout the brochure. Certification The Lagan Chimney System has been approved and certified by the Irish Agrément Board and issued with the following certificate number: 01/0129. Full certification can be reviewed on the Irish Agrément Board Website - 1st Layer 2nd Layer 3rd Layer The concept involves a modular 3-layer insulated chimney system: 1st Layer A high quality rebated flue liner, made of fireclay, tested to EN nd Layer A flexible rockwool insulation of density 90kgs/m 2 designed to maintain the temperature of the flue gases and allow them to pass freely up the chimney. It also allows the liner to expand and contract without damage. 3rd Layer A lightweight aggregate chimney block which safely encases the entire system and provides additional insulation. 2

The Lagan Chimney System Overview Key Issues to Ensure Compliance with Existing Building Regulations Flue liners are to be installed with the rebate uppermost and jointed with the appropriate fireproof sealant. All chimney stacks must be at least 4.5 metres in height above the flue gathering. A standard gap of 40mm is to be maintained between the outer surface of the chimney block and structural timbers. The gap should be filled with mineral wool or a non combustible material. Floorboards, skirting and architrave do not need to be taken into account. Chimney stack heights should be in accordance with fig. 1 Antennae and other such fixtures must not be fixed to chimney stacks above the roof line. All the materials needed to construct the chimney from the base to the chimney pot are supplied as part of a pack. This includes blocks for the chimney breast. The pack for a standard 8 metre chimney can be fitted on two pallets. All the blocks are supplied as part of the pack and are lightweight and made to fit together. Unlike standard blocks, Lagan Chimney Systems chimney blocks have high insulation properties. The high quality fireclay flue liner complies with the European Standard EN1457. An expansion plate allows for vertical expansion and the insulation in the system permits horizontal expansion. A high temperature ceramic sealant is provided in tubes for ease of application. The consistency of the insulation properties helps maintain the temperature of the flue gases, allowing them to pass freely up the chimney. The higher spec insulation incorporated with the insulating qualities of the aggregate in the flue block help achieve and maintain a higher temperature within the flue liner than a traditional style chimney (back filled with a weak mix of sand, lime and cement). This helps to reduce problems associated with traditional chimneys, i.e. lack of draught. Suitable for timber frame, steel frame, ICF (Insulated Concrete Formwork) and traditional masonry construction. The Benefits Speed The chimney system is designed in modular units which can be quickly assembled on site, significantly reducing the chimney construction time. The complete system for a standard chimney is supplied on two pallets, ready to be built. Safety The high temperature sealant offers greater protection against leaks. The higher insulation properties of the 3-layer system minimises condensation, reducing the likelihood of chimney fires and moisture staining on the chimney breast. Consistency The prefabricated nature of the Lagan Chimney System increases the consistency of the product thereby reducing the exposure to error. Multi Fuel Lagan Chimney Systems is suitable for all fuels - gas, oil and solid fuel. 3

Product / Pallet Format Finishing Pack This pack includes the extended chimney stack and the components required when exiting the roofline. The size of the finishing pack will vary depending on the overall height of the chimney. 5 Metre Base Pack Finishing Pack Flue liner 5 Metre Base Pack This pack includes all the components required from base up to and including 5m of the chimney breast and stack. 4

Single Internal Plastered Chimney Flue liner Single Internal Plastered Chimney Internal single chimney for timber frame and can be adopted for steel frame, ICF (insulated concrete formwork) and masonry construction. A corbel 715mm x 715mm may be provided if the customer wishes to increase the size of the chimney stack. 5

Single Internal Brick Chimney Brick Chimney Internal single brick chimney is suitable for timber frame, steel frame and is easily adaptable to ICF (insulated concrete formwork) and masonry construction. A cavity tray is recommmended but not automatically supplied in the kit. 6

Single Internal Hood Chimney Flue liner Hood Chimney Internal single hooded chimney suitable for timber frame, steel frame, ICF (insulated concrete formwork) and masonry construction. The prefabricated finished sleeve replaces the need to plaster the chimney stack. The finished sleeve slides down over the prefabricated masonry chimney block and acts as a counter flashing as it sits over the lead apron. The bottom of the prefabricated chimney sleeve provided needs to be cut to suit the pitch of the roof. This can be done by using a handsaw.this finish helps the builder keep his roof clean as there is no need for wet trade when finishing the chimney stack. 7

Back to Back Brick Chimney Back to Back Brick Chimney Back to back brick chimney suitable for timber frame, steel frame, ICF (insulated concrete formwork) and masonry construction. The design allows both chimneys to be built without breaking into the timber frame or steel frame party wall. The two chimneys remain independent of each other until they reach the top of the party wall. Then using a reinforced steelite lintel they join together to become one, externally above the roof level. A cavity tray is recommmended but not automatically supplied in the kit. 8

Back to Back Plaster Chimney (Using Extension Corbels) Back to Back Plaster Chimney Back to back plastered chimney system is suitable for timber frame and steel frame. This design allows both chimneys to be built without breaking into the party wall. The two chimneys remain independent of each other until they reach the top of the party wall. Then using a reinforced steelite lintel they join together to become one, externally above the roof level. A cavity tray is recommmended but not automatically supplied in the kit. This is an extra. 9

Back to Back Hood Chimney Back to Back Hood Chimney Back to back hooded chimney system suitable for timber frame, steel frame, ICF (insulated concrete formwork) and masonry construction. This detail enables two chimneys to be constructed on either side of a party wall when a corbel is not required. The prefabricated finished sleeve replaces the need to plaster the chimney stack. The finished sleeve slides down over the prefabricated masonry block and acts as a counter flashing as it sits over the lead apron. This finish helps the builder keep his roof clean as there is no need for wet trade when finishing the chimney stack. This design allows both chimneys to be built without breaking into the party wall. 10

Swift Back to Back Plastered Masonry, ICF, Steelframe Chimney Swift Back to Back This design is suitable for two chimneys on either side of a masonry, ICF or steel frame party wall. This design allows both chimney stacks to come together as one double chimney stack. Corbels are not neccessary unless required for a brick detail. 11

External Chimney External Suitable for a single chimney where the chimney is on the outside of the building. The external chimney is suitable for timber frame, steel frame, ICF and masonry construction. 12

Stove Single Stove The stove detail is an ideal solution for stoves, cookers and central heating boilers. The Lagan stove chimney systems provide a neat and simple solution to suit a variety of stove installations, illustrated on the next page are the solutions for a stove, range style cooker and the combination system. The accesories on the stoves, cookers and boiler systems include preformed junction pipes and inspection doors for ease of maintenance.
