4 Travel to and from the resort There have been a few changes to the travel plans. This was to avoid students getting on a late ferry: We will be leaving school at 10.40am on two Luckett s Travel coaches We are boarding a 15.40pm ferry to Calais Students must stay in groups of no fewer than 3 on the ferry Students are not to go outside on the ferry deck Students must be aware of staff meet points Arrival in Calais at 18.10pm Arrival in resort at 8.10am We will not access rooms until 2.00pm; we will use this time to show students the village and get ski gear. Students should have ski socks handy.

5 Reminder: Euros Students will need some money for their outward and return journeys. We recommend students bring around 30 for the two journeys for food and drinks (including lunch on arrival) Students must also bring 1/50c coins for the toilets There is also an extra 1/day tourist tax ( 6) After arrival, whilst in resort, students will not need extra cash but may wish to bring money for their drinks and snacks. 10 a day is ample - 50 in total Students will not need more than 100 total (this is very generous). Students might want to bring a collection of drinks/snacks as the prices in resort tend to be quite high.

6 Travel to and from the resort Students can drop bags off in the hall from 8am. Students are to arrive at school in travel clothes and participate in lessons 1-2 as normal. At break time, students are to meet in the huts for registration. Year 8 and 10 in Room 2 Year 9 in Room 3 Bring a sleeping bag and cushion, and wear comfy clothes! We will then take them across to room 1 in groups of ten, before taking them to the coaches.

7 Travel to and from the resort We leave the hotel at on Friday 17 th February. Students will ski in the morning, then head for lunch. After lunch, they will pack bags, shower and get ready for their evening meal. Students will eat a hot meal before heading back to the UK. We are due to board the 9.50am ferry on Saturday 18 th February. We will arrive back at school at approximately 13.50pm.

8 Hotel Villaggio Olimpico: Rooms and Facilities The Olympic Village Hotel is a newer, modern building. There are three wings; we will be together in one of these. Students will only be permitted to leave our allocated wing in order to visit hotel facilities. They will need to notify a member of staff if they wish to do this. Rooms are mainly quads and triples, with the occasional five.

9 Rooms and Facilities The hotel has a number of facilities on-site: Table football Pool tables A gym A pool (extra charge of 5; swimming caps must be worn) Bar area Disco Cinema room

10 Food and Drink We will go to dinner, and sit, as a group. All meals are buffet-style Pasta, meat, potatoes lots of carbs! Students must come to all meals dressed and wearing shoes Breakfast 7.45am Lunch 12.00pm Dinner 7.00pm

11 Buying drinks and snacks at the hotel All drinks and snacks in the hotel can only be purchased with the room key. Each room will have one key Students can charge their key with a specific amount of money This card is then used to purchase snacks and drinks It is highly recommended that each student keeps track of what they have spent with the other members of their room Soft drinks are approx. 1-2 each. Water is free and tap water can be consumed

12 Ski Groupings and Lessons There are 7 ski groups. Groups are fluid and will be changed by instructors as they see fit. On Day 1, you will all head to the nursery slope so that the instructors can test your ability. Then you will be moved, if needed, before heading out to ski for the week. Teachers will be with you on your first day; after that, you will be with your instructor at all times during lessons.

13 Ski Clothing As per the kit list issued last year, students will need: Ski jacket Salopettes/trousers Thermal base layers Loop-knit socks (thermal, made for skiing/hiking) Ski gloves Goggles (apologies that these were missed off the kit list)

14 Structure of Lessons A typical day would consist of: am: Ski lesson pm: Lunch at the hotel pm: Ski lesson pm-5.00pm: Free ski (lifts may close earlier; this cannot be guaranteed at all times and is dependent on behaviour)

15 Evening Activities Saturday: Settling in; introduction evening; getting to know each other Sunday: DVD night (bring snacks!) Monday: Bumboarding on the slopes followed by hot chocolate Tuesday: Karaoke! Wednesday: Quiz Night Prizes available Thursday: Fancy Dress disco theme: what I want to be when I grow up!

16 Free Ski Our staff have kindly agreed to provide free ski to students. Our insurance covers us for on-piste free ski provided students are with a supervising adult whilst on the slopes. We will provide free ski for all levels of ability. Staff will accompany students on a basis of 1-8 Lower-intermediate skiers may be required to stay on the nursery slope at the start of the week Any student putting others at risk or unable to follow instructions either on the slopes or at the hotel will not be allowed to participate in free ski

17 Free Ski We have issued all parents with a permission form to sign in order for students to participate in free ski activities. This is not compulsory; if you do not want your child to participate, they will be able to return to the hotel with a member of staff instead Only students with a completed permission form will be permitted to free ski.

18 Free Time In the early evening, after lessons, we will have a small amount of free time. Students will be permitted to use their telephones during this time and will need to collect these from their group leader. Students must not leave the hotel without a member of staff. We must make sure we get to dinner on time!

19 And finally... There are a few rules that we must make clear before we travel. I am sure I do not need to mention these, but I want to make these clear. Alcohol and cigarettes are absolutely prohibited. Safety is paramount. Your instructor s word is final. Treat your fellow students with respect. You will make some lasting friendships on this trip, so embrace the crowd!
