Why are prcedures and prtcl imprtant? First, that is the wrd f Gd: We want t minister (that is, exercise ur gifts) in fitting and rderly way. 1 C 14: Therefre, my brthers, be eager t prphesy, and d nt frbid speaking in tngues. 40 But everything shuld be dne in a fitting and rderly way. We want t encurage the peple t exercise their gifts, but we must d ministry in fitting and rderly way. Example: Orchestra Perfrmance Ministry is nt a perfrmance, but it is a public ministry: a public exercise f synchrnized exercise f gifts. A perfrmer cannt ignre the prcedures, prtcls r etiquettes. In an rchestra r cncert, a randm perfrmer, n matter hw gd he r she is, cannt d whatever he r she feels like everything will be ff balance and there wuld be n harmny amng the perfrmers. Even in a heavy rck cncert, everything is rchestrated and everything is in harmny, even thugh it may nt seem s. If anyne plays ff tune r ff the sequence, everyne knws that there is smething wrng. The same is true in ministry If anyne ges ut f harmny and synchrnizatin, the ministry lks awkward and everyne senses smething wrng. The synchrnizatin I am referring t is being synchrnized with the Hly Spirit The synchrnizatin I am referring t is being synchrnized with the pastral leadership The synchrnizatin I am referring t is being synchrnized with the prtcl All three must be synchrnized; nt just the Hly Spirit, because Hly Spirit respects His leadership. It is like I, as the father and wns my huse, I d nt d whatever I want in my sn's rm while he is living in the huse, because I respect him and his sphere f influence. Therefre, we must bring a balance in the desire and the unctin t minister with a set f rules and prtcls. 1 C 14:39-40 illustrates this need fr balance. 1 C 14: Therefre, my brthers, be eager t prphesy, and d nt frbid speaking in tngues. 40 But everything shuld be dne in a fitting and rderly way. 1

Fr example, prtcl fr a cell grup ministry has t be different frm a frmal cnference setting. Anther example, prtcl fr after Sunday mrning service has t be different frm during the Sunday mrning service. Therefre, ne prtcl is nt ging t slve everything; therefre, rely n the pastrs (especially the senir pastr) fr guidance; and if there is n guidance frm the pastrs, rely n the prtcls. Secnd, we want t Nurture A Safe Envirnment t Receive Ministry We must prtect the peple: first the peple receiving the ministry and secnd the peple ministering. We dn t want t hurt peple physically, emtinally r spiritually We dn t want a minister t becme hurt physically, emtinally r spiritually We dn t want a minister t becme liable physically, emtinally r spiritually damage We dn t want Father's Huse t becme liable Ex: A missinary returned frm Russia Third, we want t have prper etiquettes fr ministry When we are children, pr etiquettes may be reasnable, but when we grw up, prper etiquettes are imprtant in building relatinships. We have t remember that ministry is fr building relatinships: first with Gd, then with ne anther. One pr prphetic wrd can damage a relatinship One pr etiquette culd shun peple away frm the mve f the Hly Spirit. Spraying water Spitting Bad breath Chewing gum Prly dressed I am nt talking abut the minister being pr r nt wearing gd clthes, but being unsightly dressed; ex: wearing flip flps and wearing a dirty trn shirt Furth, having prper guidance frees peple and gives cnfidence within the cntext f guidance; being under cvering f authrity. Matthew 8:8-9 8 The centurin replied, Lrd, I d nt deserve t have yu cme under my rf. But just say the wrd, and my servant will be healed. 9 Fr I myself am a man under authrity, with sldiers under me. We have law in the land, s the peple can be free and enjy freedm in peace. 2

Why are the keys in ministry Lve nt a prblem Cmpassin nt a prblem Faith nt a prblem The fact the minister wants t minister indicates that the persn lve, has cmpassin and has faith. Hnr Often peple d nt knw hw t hnr thers. They presume that if it is kay fr me, it is kay fr the thers, nt nly thers, but t everyne else. That is nt hnring, but living in a delusin. Everyne is different There is a jargn in law: "eggshell plaintiff" We have n idea wh we are dealing with Especially when we are ministering t a stranger We have n idea what the ther persn is ging thrugh at the very mment Even with a lng term friend, we d nt knw what the persn is feeling culd be very depressed, very fragile emtinally, very nervus, very anxius, r very tired S, learn t hnr by taking extra precautin If yu were t errr, it is better t errr with mre hnr and respect than t assume that everyne is like yu. Sme peple lve t have smene lay hand n the head and prayed fr, but sme peple hate t have smene lay hand n the head and prayed fr. Sme peple lve t have a pastr they trust lay hand n and prayed fr, but hate t have anyne ther than a pastr they trust lay hand n and prayed fr. This is especially true with sme pastrs r sme spiritually sensitive peple. That is why I am very cautius in laying my hand n pastrs r ther ministers I dn t knw well. In fact, sme f them may be ffended when yu lay yur hand n them, especially n their head. S, please be careful. Dn t be quick t lay hand n peple. When in dubt, ask first. 3. What is ministry Eph 4: It was he wh gave sme t be apstles, sme t be prphets, sme t be evangelists, and sme t be pastrs and teachers, 12 t prepare Gd s peple fr wrks f service, s that the bdy f Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knwledge f the Sn f Gd and becme mature, attaining t the whle measure f the fullness f Christ. Park It is nt t be smene It is nt t prve smething It is nt a testing grund fr yur gifts Remember why the first deacns were chsen in Acts chapter 6 They were chsen t serve the peple actually t wait n peple Acts 6:2-4 2 S the Twelve gathered all the disciples tgether and said, It wuld nt be right fr us t neglect the ministry f the wrd f Gd in rder t wait n tables. 3 Brthers, chse seven men frm amng yu wh are knwn t be full f the Spirit and wisdm. We will turn this respnsibility ver t them 4 and will give ur attentin t prayer and the ministry f the wrd. It is relatinship and character based It is relatinship based, and that is why yu shuld nt minister in ther churches unless asked by the pastr Yu may be a great intercessr r even a prphet, but yu are t minister within yur church under directins f the pastrs; yu have t knw yur sphere f influence and knw where yur hme church is. If yu dn t have a hme church, dn t minister in prayer ministry settings unless yu are given specific permissin, because yu are nt released! Dn t say that Gd released yu t minister everywhere, frm a lcatin t anther, like wind because it is still nt right Gd des nt want us t ignre the huse rules f each sheep pen. It is character based, and that is why if yur character is nt there r if yur character is suffering temprarily, yu shuld nt minister. Think abut what type f spirit yu wuld be passing n r imparting, if yur character were imprper r unbalanced. S, here are sme huse rules: We will d ur best t balance the encuraging f the gifts with prtcls s that we can better flw with the wave f the Hly Spirit During the wrship service D nt minister unless pastr asks yu. Sharing f testimny time is nt fr ministering, but t praise Gd. If ne has t share smething publicly, in advance, receive a permissin frm the pastr perfrming the annuncement s that he r she may crdinate the effrt during the annuncements. Pastr ministering annuncement may ask whether there is a public annuncement t be made by members. Only membership-bearing-members will be making annuncements when invited this way, unless the pastr ministering gives a prir permissin. There shuld be n persnal ministry unless the pastr asks yu. If yu have a prphetic wrd yu want t release r a prphetic act yu want t d, write it dwn and given the nte t the pastr. If yu dn t have the willingness t ask fr permissin, dn t minister. Park Be hnring f yur pastrs and the ther persn t d this yu will be blessed by the Hly Spirit When the Hly Spirit gives yu a prmpting t pray fr a persn yu d nt knw in a public setting First, intrduce yurself Secnd, plitely ask whether yu can pray fr the persn Third, publicly pray nly when the ther persn gives yu permissin If the persn des nt give yu permissin r yu dn t feel like asking Then intercede fr the persn quietly and unnticeably. If yu must, yu can write it dwn and give yur nte t the persn after intrducing yurself, explain what the nte is, and after receiving permissin t give the nte t the persn. When praying fr peple, fllw the prtcl and general etiquette Fr example: Men praying fr men; wmen fr wmen N laying n f hands unless permissin is received Even I ask fr permissin frm the first time visitrs r anyne whm I knw fr sure I haven't received permissin. When I d, because I knw the members, etc, I lay my hand n them gently. Respect different cultures Respect their privacy and cultural nrm If yu aren't sure, ask first. When yu ntice smene nt fllwing the prtcl in FH Please tell them plitely that there is a ministry prtcl in FH, and that they need t receive permissin t pray fr anyne frm a pastr first. If yu dn t have the strength t tell the persn, then g find a pastr r a deacn r ther leaders, s that they can tell the persn. Hwever, when yu enfrce the prtcls, knw that yu are prviding a safe envirnment in yur hme and yu are merely enfrcing the huse rules. Yu wuld nt want a randm peple cme in and nt bey yur huse rule r pray fr yur children Here is the bttm line: Hnr the pastrs as much as yu can s that they can flw with the Hly Spirit the best they can at the macr level and prtect the members and attendees. Hnr the persn as much as yu can by being plite and asking. Be in harmny with the service Knw that t minister is t serve 6
