2 1. Logging in to the app (and logging out) You don t need to log in to the app in order to use it. However you do need to log in in order to: 1. download a purchase from ebooks.com 2. backup your annotations (bookmarks, notes, highlights) on to our online backup server. We recommend staying logged in to the app at all times. You don t have to be connected to the internet to remain logged in, but if you log out of the app you will need an internet connection to log back in. 1.1 Logging in to the app Step 1: Launch the app & press the menu icon Press the menu icon in the top left corner to bring up the app menu.

3 Step 2: Press Login

4 Step 3: Enter your ebooks.com username & password and press Login If you have not previously created an account you can do so by pressing Register.

5 1.2 Logging out of the app We recommend staying logged in to the app at all times. But you may want to log out if for instance you have multiple people using one device. (i.e. a family tablet and each family member has their own bookshelf) Step 1: Launch the app & press the menu icon

6 Step 2: Press Logout, then confirm by pressing OK

7 2. Downloading your ebooks.com purchase You have made a purchase from ebooks.com and want to know how to download it to the app? In these instructions we are going to assume you have already launched the app on your Android device and logged in. If you haven t already done this please follow the steps detailed in 1.1 Logging in to the app, then return to this section. Note: If you want to know how to make a purchase within the app, check 4. Adding more books to your bookshelf Step 1: Press the menu icon, then press Import Books

8 Step 2: Press the downwards facing arrow labelled Change and change the source to ebooks.com

9 Step 3: Select the book(s) you wish to download, then press the download icon, then return to the bookshelf.

10 Step 4: Once the download finishes, the book will appear in your bookshelf. Simply press the cover to open it. Please wait for pagination to reach 100% before reading your book. If it gets stuck or doesn t complete, please exit the book and reopen it.

11 3. Reading your book / using the in-book options menu When you have a book open the controls are simple. 1. Tap the right side of the screen to turn forward a page 2. Tap the left side of the screen to turn backward a page 3. Tap the middle of the screen to bring up the menu Note you can also swipe your finger from right to left to turn the page when reading an EPUB, or swipe bottom to top to turn the page when reading a PDF.

12 Once you have opened the menu you have multiple options across the top of the screen: 1. Add a bookmark 2. Add a note 3. Highlight text 4. Along the bottom of the screen you have the menu bar. All of the features will be explained on the next page 5. There is also a slide bar where you can quickly press and drag the slider to jump to any page in your ebook 6. Return to bookshelf

13 In the menu on the bottom of the screen are multiple options: 1. Toggle rotation lock on/off. When rotation lock is off, when you rotate your device the display will change from portrait to landscape, or vice versa 2. View the table of contents 3. View a list of all the bookmarks, notes and text highlights created inside this book 4. Search within the entire text of the ebook 5. Settings. For adjusting the brightness, switching to night mode, changing font type, text color, background color, and device volume button functionality (see the Settings screen below) 6. Share. Share a comment on your ebook on twitter, facebook, google+ and via

14 4. Adding more books to your bookshelf There are multiple ways to add new books to your bookshelf. You can either 1. Buy and download books from the ebooks.com website (including a selection of free ebooks) 2. Import books that are already stored on your device in either internal memory, or SD card 3. Download PDF or EPUB files directly from the internet and open them in Ebook Reader Note: in order to import your own ebooks or download books from the internet, the files need to be DRM-free and either EPUB or PDF format. 4.1 Via the ebooks.com store First launch the app on your Android device and make sure you are logged in. If you need help with this please follow these steps: 1.1 Logging in to the app, then return to this section. Step 1: Press the menu icon, then press the shopping cart icon or Buy Books

15 Step 2: Find the book you are after Once the store opens there are multiple ways to find the book you are after. 1. Browse the bestsellers 2. Use the menu icon to browse each subject area (including the free ebooks). It also gives access to your account page and shopping cart 3. Use the search tool to look for a specific book by title, author or ISBN 4. Or you can return to your bookshelf

16 Step 3: Press BUY NOW button and complete your purchase. Once the purchase is complete you can return to your bookshelf and download the book by following the steps detailed in 2 Downloading your purchase.

17 4.2 Importing your own ebooks If your existing ebooks are not already stored on your device then the first step is to transfer them across. Normally if they are on your computer this involves plugging your device in to your computer using the cable that came with your device and moving the book files on to the internal memory or SD card. As devices can vary greatly instructions for this step are not included, but if you do need assistance please contact our support team. Details are in 7 Further help and assistance. Note that in order to import your own ebooks the files need to be DRM-free and either EPUB or PDF format. Step 1: Launch the app & press the menu icon

18 Step 2: Press Import Books

19 Step 3: Press the auto search icon to find all your books Auto search means the app will search your devices memory and display all books possible to import, both PDF and EPUB. Please note that the app does not search external SD cards, so if the book files are on an SD card you will need to manually navigate to the correct folder using the File browser on the screen. On external SD cards the directory structure is very rarely consistent. They will be different based upon the manufacturer, based upon what device the card is in, based upon what the user has done on their computer, etc. As a result, we do not automatically detect importable books from SD cards.

20 Step 4: Select the books you want to import, then press Import You can select 1 book, or as many as you like. If you want to import all books, just press the to highlight them all. icon

21 Step 5: Return to bookshelf and start reading

22 4.3 Downloading from the web Many websites offer free ebooks available to download. Or many website offer reports and other documents in PDFs. Using Ebook Reader you can download these files directly from your browser to Ebook Reader. Note that in order to download books from the internet the files need to be DRM-free and either EPUB or PDF format. Step 1: Launch your web browser and navigate to your website of choice

23 Step 2: Press the download link to initiate download

24 Step 3: Press Ebook Reader, then press Just once Or press Always if you want to always use Ebook Reader to open this file type.

25 5. Managing collections Creating collections is a good way of organising and grouping your books. Please note any collections you make while logged in to an ebooks.com account will not be visible if you log out of that account. 5.1 Creating a collection Step 1: Launch the app, press the menu icon, then Collections

26 Step 2: Add a new collection 1. Press the new collection button 2. Enter the collection name of your choice (e.g. Young Adult Fiction, History textbooks, Autobiographies, Holiday reading, Vampire romance, Book club) 3. Press OK 4. Press the menu icon to return to your bookshelf

27 5.2 Adding books to a collection Step 1: Long press the book you wish to add to the collection, then press the collection icon Once you have selected one book you can tap the covers of as many books as you like to add them too.

28 Step 2: Select the collection to add the books to 1. Press the checkbox by the collection name so the collection is selected 2. Press the tick icon in the top right to confirm you want to add the book(s) to this collection 3. Press the back icon to return to the bookshelf

29 5.3 Removing books from a collection Step 1: Launch the app, press the down arrow by All books and switch to the collection you want to remove books from

30 Step 2: Long press to highlight the book you want to remove, then press the collection icon Once you have selected one book you can tap the covers of as many books as you like to remove them too. Note, pressing the trashcan icon will remove the book from the device completely, not just from the collection.

31 Step 3: Deselect the collection to remove the books 1. Press the checkbox by the collection name so the collection is deselected 2. Press the tick icon in the top right to confirm you want to remove the book(s) from this collection 3. Press the back icon to return to the bookshelf

32 5.4 Deleting a collection Step 1: Launch the app, press the menu icon, then Collections

33 Step 2: Select the collection to delete, then press Delete

34 6. Deleting a book Deleting books does not just remove them from the app, but from the device itself. It can help create more space on your device. If they are in your ebooks.com account they can always be re-downloaded. Step 1: Long press the cover of the book you want to delete, then press the trashcan icon

35 Step 2: Press Yes to confirm deletion
