2 WELCOME TO AGROTECH We develop, we test and we listen to you. AgroTech works to enable Denmark further to develop its production of food and other biobased products in a safe, sustainable and competitive way. We provide consultancy on major and minor issues. Our customers are both entrepreneurs with bright ideas and large, well-established companies that require product and business development support. We offer research-based and impartial consultancy and assistance in developing your business. We participate in large innovation consortia and in research and development projects. Our approach is the same, regardless of the project: We bridge the gap between research and industry, bring parties together and help you apply for funding. The result is new technology, new products and new business areas. In other words: Business development through knowledge and innovation. They aim to develop and apply stateof-the-art technological and biological knowledge to practice for the benefit of the agricultural industry and the food industry. That is why we are authorised to use the appellation GTS institute. We use our knowledge of technology and biology to provide innovative and commercial solutions to our customers needs. WHAT IS GTS? Denmark has nine GTS institutes. AgroTech is one of them. A GTS institute is a non-profit technological service institute that has been authorised by the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to use the appellation. GTS institutes should contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of Danish industry. They offer impartial advice and perform application-oriented research and development tasks. Moreover, GTS institutes provide Danish industry with access to state-of-the-art technological knowledge in their respective fields of expertise.

Our staff are highly educated, and even though our core competence is in the field of primary production of agricultural and horticultural products, our competencies cover the entire value chain from primary produce to final consumption. We use our knowledge, your knowledge and the knowledge of international research environments to develop new business areas. We are curious and process-minded as this is necessary to achieve the best possible result. We make sure to ask the right questions to be able to meet future demands. Through application-oriented research, trials, tests, development and demonstration projects we develop solutions from which you can benefit financially! Is there CO 2 in a sow? Is the milk of the future CO 2 neutral? Is straw shortener a needle in a haystack in 15 years? Should bioplastic be biodegradable? Do pigs live in skyscrapers in the future? Can you feel the warmth of the summer sun in the winter? Do farmers still get their fingers dirty in ten years? Is old cheese a thing of the past in the future food industry? COWDETECT KIMS AND ARLA FOODS WILLOW FOR ENERGY PURPOSES PLANT POWER OUTLETS BOVITEMP You take a down-to-earth idea, add capital and ask AgroTech s experts to translate technical signals into biosignals. SmarterFarming has the recipe for success, and farming hence becomes much easier now. Using GPS-like technology, CowDetect monitors the real time movements and positions of cows. Data is analysed automatically and sent directly to the farm manager s hand-held computer. The system is supposed to result in increased welfare, reduced medicine use and a significantly higher insemination success rate. The long-term aim is to adapt CowDetect to suit pigs, sheep and other livestock as well. What do milk and crisps have in common? Like the rest of the food industry, they contribute significantly to CO 2 emissions. We determine the environmental impact of food products from primary produce to final consumption, combine the results with our expert knowledge of agriculture and the food production and supply solutions to reduce emissions to producers who care about the climate. KiMs and Arla Foods now have a number of ideas to break the CO 2 curve which is very important to maintain competitive advantage. Modern farmers are environmentally conscious and wish to minimise the use of pesticides and reduce the leaching of nutrients. Willow can absorb nutrients and it hence contributes significantly to reducing the leaching of nutrients, especially in environmentally sensitive areas. Moreover, willow is a high-yielding, fast-growing energy crop. This is the reason why we are involved in a development project with the aim of establishing 1500 hectares of energy willow in the surrounding area of Ring købing and Nissum Fjord in Western Jutland. The greenhouses of today are highly energyconsuming to the detriment of horticultural producer s financial situation and the climate. Consequently, we are creating a future sustainable greenhouse through the project Intelligent Energy Handling in Greenhouses and a research project called Greenhouse Concept We use new climate-friendly technologies: Underground storage of surplus energy, dynamic climate control and light-emitting diodes as a light source for plant growth. Result: Reduced CO 2 emissions and low energy consumption. The long-term aim is to make greenhouses self-sufficient in energy. Traditional temperature monitoring is both difficult and expensive on large farms. With BoviTemp, FarmTjek ApS wanted to develop a wireless online monitoring system to be inserted into the rumen of cows. Why? To save time, ensure that sick animals are treated quickly and reduce the use of medicines. But what can you do when the system does not have the desired biological effect? You call in AgroTech as technical troubleshooter and that is what FarmTjek ApS did. Our knowledge of technology and biology resulted in rapid problem identification and maturing of the product.

Green living environments. New plants. Field trials. FARMER GLASSES MT HØJGAARD CLIMATE-FRIENDLY CATTLE DANISH MICROBREWERIES Running a farm is like running a factory. With the steadily increasing amount of data and information and the number of hand-held units it is easy for the farmer to lose track of things. Consequently, AgroTech works to give farmers free hands. Our vision is to create augmented-reality glasses which provides farmers with relevant information at the point of use e.g. an overview of animals and agricultural areas, weather and climate data and production and financial data. Result: Efficient routines, excellent overview and even faster response times. Partnership is the key to future building activities, and future building demands are high. This is the reason why Denmark s leading contractor MT Højgaard consulted AgroTech when the company moved into a new area namely cattle barns. Our experts provided advice on everything from floor coverings and environmental technology to cubicle design, light effect and passageways. Result: A high-tech cattle barn which facilitates the daily routines and meets the needs of both staff and animals at the same time. No two cattle farms are identical. AgroTech is project manager of an innovative project which links information from specific cattle farms with information from dairies. The project participants are: Arla Foods, the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Aarhus University and Danish Cattle Federation. The project aim is to provide a realistic picture of the difference in CO 2 emissions from the dairy value chain from primary production to final consumption. Consequently, each milk producer will be able to run a climate-friendlier production and benefit financially at the same time. Danish microbreweries have placed Denmark at the forefront of microbrewing with new and historical beers. The beers are often highly innovative in terms of taste, ingredients and processes. To maintain a leading position Danish microbreweries need to continue to develop their beer. Consequently, it is important that small breweries adapt a more knowledge-based approach to production and processes. AgroTech participates in an innovation consortium which focuses its work on flavour stability and the microbiological requirements for hygienic production.
