14 The S series. The S series results from the many years of experience and the excellent know-how coming from more than 4 million FPT engines so far manufactured for light commercial vehicles. To deliver optimum efficiency and minimum oil consumption together with long service intervals, S Diesel engines feature the last generation Common Rail, four valves per cylinder, maintenance-free hydraulic valve and different air handling systems. For this series, CEGR (Cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation) technology has been recognized as the best solution to make engines compliant with Euro IV and Euro V standards. Finally, these engines are also available in the CNG version, which allows vehicles to be classified EEV (Enhanced Environmental Vehicle), as their emissions values are much below Euro IV and Euro V. 18 The C series. Specifically designed for goods and people transport, either for public and private sector, C series engines feature both high power and low operating costs. Thanks to their Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT), low weight and a maximum torque developed at low speed and available over a wide speed range, they stand out for superb performance combined with an extremely low fuel consumption. Best in class intervals for oil changes (up to km) and oil consumption provide significant advantages as of maintenance costs and vehicle down-time. The C series engines are available in both Diesel and CNG versions, in a range from 180 to 415 kw and are compliant with Euro V and EEV standards. The Diesel version adopts SCR catalytic technology for Nox reduction. Injection system Multipoint sequential injection ensures an accurate fuel delivering process and very stable combustion and avoids backfire troubles. Specific pistons and combustion. CNG burns readily and completely. Gas chemical composition quality doesn t affect combustion processes. Air handling Air-to-air charge cooler and turbocharger with Waste Gate valve reduce turbo lag and increase power density. Engine design Indirect injection, taking place in the air inlet manifold, and stoichiometric combustion of gas engines allow to reduce noise and vibrations of around 3-5 db in comparison with Diesel engines, also thanks to a minor compression ratio. Compressed natural gas fuel CNG is one of the cheapest fuel types. Strong economic advantages for the customer along the vehicle useful life. Aftertreatment system EEV (Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicles) standard is the most stringent emission level for on-road applications over 3.5 tons range. Today natural gas engines can reach NOx levels of about 0,5 g/kwh, a quarter of the required limit. Three way catalyst allows a 95% reduction of pollutants (NOx, HC and CO).
