1 PRESS info P13X02EN / Örjan Åslund 24 October 2013 Scania s Euro 6 range: Proven technology and a solution for every need Scania now offers no fewer than eleven Euro 6 diesel engines, ranging from 250 hp to 730 hp. Customers across Europe who are considering buying their first Euro 6 truck can rest assured that by choosing Scania they will get proven, reliable technology that provides cost-effective performance. Scania also offers two Euro 6 gas engines and two biodiesel engines, suitable for a variety of applications Scania has used its vast experience of both EGR and to develop its Euro 6 engine range. The latest additions are the 13-litre, 6 cylinder 370 hp and the 16-litre, 730 V8, today s most powerful Euro 6 truck engine (please see separate press release). With eleven diesel engines available, every customer will find the optimal output level and engine characteristics for demanding applications, without compromising driveability or fuel economy. This autumn Scania is offering a range of no fewer than 15 Euro 6 engines, each of them designed with fuel economy and low-end torque in mind. Another flexible feature is that the gas engines, 280 or 340 hp, can be adapted to run on either CNG (compressed natural gas), LNG (liquefied natural gas) or biogas, making them very adaptable to local fuel availability. Thanks to their for gas engines exceptional torque, are they very flexible. Scania customers can now harvest all the efforts and investments made in Euro 6 from Scania s side. One of the latest additions to Scania s Euro 6 engine range is the robust 370 inline six. It is characterised by its high torque, delivering impressive 1,900 Nm already from 1,000 r/min. This high torque-to-power ratio come handy in applications where for instance loads not always are on the heavy side but will appear occasionally, or when a truck has to do a lot of start and stop. 2 2 (5) First to deliver Meeting Euro 6 demands has been something of a challenge for all OEMs. Scania was the first manufacturer to actually deliver Euro 6 engines, a fact that Scania customers now benefit from with reliability and favourable fuel consumption. Our customers are in the unique position of having a broad range of proven Euro 6 engines to choose from, emphasises Joel Granath, vice president for product management at Scania Trucks. We were the first OEM to actually deliver Euro 6 engines, more than two years ago. They met all expectations, and thanks to Scania s vast knowledge we have been able to develop and introduce a full Euro 6 range well ahead of the legislation deadline, and well ahead of most competitors. A fine balance Complying with the Euro 6 emission standard calls for a fine engineering balance, regardless of which technologies are used. Scania offers a number of choices; for example the 13 litre, 410 hp inline six that utilises only for the aftertreatment process. This particular engine offers excellent fuel economy in combination with a less complex technology. It doesn t make use of expensive components such as VGT turbo or EGR system. 13-litre 410 hp six, only and ideal for long-haulage in Europe. We developed this particular engine with our long-haulage fleet customers in mind, explains Joel Granath, vice president product management at Scania Trucks. It s ideal for long-haulage applications in Europe. While producing maximum torque all the way down to 1,000 r/min, this engine is around 3 percent more economical than the much appreciated Scania 400 hp Euro 5 EGR engine. Judging from the market response we have seen so far, this is definitely something that our customers prize. The AdBlue consumption of Scania's Euro 6 engines with only is on average 6 percent of the diesel consumption. The corresponding figure for an engine with both EGR and is around 3 percent under normal conditions. Scania has developed six different AdBlue tanks. This provide flexibility and make sure that customers have the opportunity to carry enough AdBlue for a week s driving or two diesel fill ups. Three of the tanks are hidden, mounted inside the chassis, leaving plenty of space on the outside for other equipment or diesel fuel tanks.

3 3 (5) Further refined, ready for serious work All the members of the Euro 6 engine range continue in the Scania engineering tradition. Usable torque is delivered already from 1,000 r/min. And every Scania engine provides a torque-to-power ratio that is among the highest available in their respective segments. Coupled with renowned fuel efficiency and durability, they offer both driver appeal and outstanding total cost of operation. The 450 and 490 hp 13-litre engines are based on further refinements of the former 440 and 480 hp models. They were the first generation of Euro 6 engines, which Scania started delivering more than two years ago. Independent tests have shown that these second-generation Euro 6 engines are even more fuel efficient than their predecessors. The new 450 hp engine is available in P-, G- and R-series and the new 490 hp unit in G- and R-series trucks. 450 hp, 2,350 Nm at r/min, EGR+ 490 hp, 2,550 Nm at r/min, EGR+ 5-cylinder Euro 6 engines Scania s range of 9-litre, 5 cylinder engines consists of four diesel engines and two gas engines. 250 hp diesel, 1,250 Nm at 1,000-1,350 r/min, EGR+ 280 hp diesel, 1,400 Nm at 1,000-1,350 r/min, EGR+ 320 hp diesel, 1,600 Nm at 1,050-1,300 r/min, 360 hp diesel, 1,700 Nm at 1,100-1,350 r/min, 280 hp gas/biogas, 1,350 Nm at 1,100-1,400 r/min 340 hp gas/biogas, 1,600 Nm at 1,100-1,400 r/min Refuse collectors are among those vehicles often powered by gas engines.

4 4 (5) Also the 320 and 360 hp 9-litre engines with only are optimised for low rev cruising and can be geared for economical cruising between 1,100 and 1,200 r/min. The exhaust brake produces 190 kw at 2,400 r/min. Both the 320 and the 360 can also be adapted for 100 % biodiesel (please see separate press release about alternative fuels). Aftertreatment principles Engine equipment varies between EGR+ models and engines with only. The aftertreatment system located in the silencer unit is modularised and is the same size for all inline engines. The V8 unit is only 270 mm longer, containing two parallel particulate filters and three parallel and ammonia slip circuits. The regeneration required for particle filters is normally entirely independent of the vehicle's engine management system. Drivers do not have to monitor anything or alter their driving style, all that happens when regeneration is in progress it is indicated on the instrument panel. Scania s Euro 6 silencers are among the smallest on the market. This makes life easier for bodybuilders since there is plenty of space available at the chassis. An engine for every purpose Scania customers have access to an engine range to cover needs around the globe, for every relevant emission regulation and a great many applications. Scania also offers the widest available choice of alternative fuel engines; some of the Scania Euro 6 diesel engines will be able to run on up to 100 percent biodiesel (please see separate press release). All Scania Euro 6 diesel engines can handle a blend with up to 10 percent biodiesel without any need for preparation. Buying a new truck is a huge investment, says Joel Granath, Scania s customers should be able to feel reassured that the new technology is robust and that their operations will not suffer disruptions.
