2 History Set in its own mature gardens this elegant Georgian period hotel is situated only a few moments walk from the centre of the spa town of Buxton and its internationally acclaimed Opera House. The hotel was acquired in 1957 and after a short period of renovation was re-opened in 1958 by Margaret & Derwent Millican. In 1980 their son, John, returned from managing hotels overseas to take over the helm. 6th Duke of Devonshire The Best Western Lee Wood Hotel was originally built in 1830 by the then Duke of Devonshire as three houses. It was transformed into an hotel in 1860 when the railways arrived in Buxton and the town was beginning to prosper as a Victorian spa town where the great and the good would come to enjoy the therapeutic properties of its thermal spring waters. Following the marriage of his daughter Nicola to Owen Longden in 2007 they have now taken over the operational management of the business although the whole family still remain very much involved.

3 Elements Conservatory Restaurant Our hotel has long enjoyed a reputation for the quality of its food and the professional and friendly service offered in our restaurant. The new style dishes on our menus are interesting and varied and whether you require just a single course light meal or something more substantial we will be delighted to oblige. There are also a number of vegetarian dishes to choose from. If you have specific dietary requirements just let us know and our head chef will always be delighted to cater for them. Bars The main Elements Bar and Lounge overlooking the gardens is open to all. You can enjoy both drinks and light meals here or on the hotel patio weather permitting throughout the day. We offer a fine selection of beers, wines by the glass, single malts and gins.

4 Bedrooms There are 38 individually appointed and comfortable en-suite bedrooms and five of which are situated in the Woodside annexe to the hotel. All bedrooms are equipped with electronic locks, safes, hospitality tray, hair dryer, trouser press, radio alarm, telephone and satellite reception televisions. All bedrooms are either twin or double with a few family rooms. Complimentary wi-fi is available throughout the hotel with hard-wired broadband access from the bedrooms. There is a lift to all floors. Suites You may be thinking of celebrating a special occasion so why not pamper yourselves in one of our Junior Suites. They are individually furnished and decorated to a high standard. The suites have king-size double beds (or twin if required) and in the separate sitting room you will find a writing desk, additional television and other amenities to make your stay even more comfortable.

5 Conferences & Meetings Whether it be a meeting for two, a conference for fifty or a presentation to over one hundred we have a conference or meeting room to meet your needs. All our conference areas are well equipped and there is full climate control in the Pendennis Suites. We welcome both day and residential conferences. Celebrations As a family owned and managed hotel we understand the importance of celebrating certain occasions and over the last fifty and more years we have looked after many. Whether it be a week-end family re-union, a birthday or anniversary, a club reunion or charter night we will help you plan it to perfection. The Pendennis Suite has its own private bar. The hotel with its fine conservatory or its more traditional oak-panelled Pendennis Suite has always been a local favourite for a Wedding Breakfast. The mature gardens make an ideal back-drop for the all important photographs and in which to enjoy your reception drinks. We are licensed for Civil Weddings and Partnership registrations.

6 What to See and What to Do The Spa Town of Buxton is host to a number of prestigious events throughout the year and many are based on its internationally acclaimed Opera House designed by Frank Matcham and opened in The International Opera Festival is held in July and this is followed by the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival which runs into August. Outside of these events there is always an interesting and diverse programme presented at the Opera House. Pooles Cavern and Country Park is a Victorian Show Cave through which the River Wye runs and is just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Fine examples of stalagmites and stalagtites can be seen here. Chatsworth House Buxton Opera House Buxton is at the very heart of the Peak District and is surrounded by an area of superlatives. Whether you enjoy the great outdoors from the start of the Pennine Way in Edale or a tranquil walk down one of the many dales or just visiting the historic country houses of Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall or soaking up the history of the industrial revolution or the Crich Tramway or the caverns of Castleton or the pagan ritual of Well Dressing in the Derbyshire villages there is something for everyone within the area.

From the North - M1 Junction 29 Chesterfield - Baslow - Buxton. M6 Junction 19 A537 Knutsford - Macclesfield - Buxton and M56/M60 and M62 Stockport A6 to Buxton. From the South - M1 Junction 23A/24.
