1 Downloading Guide E- Book (DRM- Wrapped) Accessing your ebook on PC & Mac Getting Started: You will first need to create an Adobe ID. You can do so by going here and selecting Don t have an Adobe ID? You will also need to download and install Adobe Digital Editions. Vista Users: In Adobe s recent version of Digital Editions, there have been some compatibility issues with Vista. In order to avoid these issues, please follow these instructions: 1. Download the installer from editions/download.html. 2. Choose to save the install files to a location on your hard disk. 3. Navigate to the saved location, right- click ADE_2.0_Installer.exe, and select Properties. 4. Under the General tab, click the Unblock button next to Security. Page 1 of 29

2 5. Click OK to apply the changes and close the Properties window. 6. Double- click the ADE_2.0_Installer.exe to begin the installation process. Mac Users: Your experience will be nearly identical to this process, but with the slight variations inherent with Mac computers. Once you have created an Adobe ID, download and install Digital Editions. Choose Run if you have the option. If you do not, choose save and once the download has finished, navigate to your Downloads folder. (If you have Windows Vista, refer to the above instructions to make sure you do not have any trouble installing the software.) Now open the file ADE_2.0_Installer.exe and choose Run. Page 2 of 29

3 Follow the steps outlined by the installer until it has completed. You should also be prompted to authorize your computer during this stage. Enter your Adobe credentials and click Authorize. If you missed authorizing Digital Editions during the install, open it up and select Help, then Authorize Computer Now you are ready to download ebooks! Navigate to the delivery and select the PC/Mac download link at the bottom of the page. This should prompt you to open or save a file called URLLink.acsm. If given the option, open the file with Digital Editions. Page 3 of 29

4 If you must save the file, do so, then navigate to your Downloads folder and open the file. Once you open the file, Digital Editions should pop up and begin downloading the ebook. Once the download is finished, you will be able to view your ebook! Page 4 of 29

5 Downloading an ebook Directly to an ios Mobile Device (ipad, iphone, ipod) Getting Started: You will first need to create an Adobe ID. You can do this by going here and selecting Don t have an Adobe ID? After creating an Adobe ID, you will need to download and install an app called BeyondPrint Reader from the Apple App Store. 6 Once it has installed, open the app. It should prompt you to authorize your ipad with the Adobe ID you created. Page 6 of 29

7 You should get a confirmation message that the authorization was successful. Now you are ready to download ebooks! Navigate to your delivery and select the Download version for iphone/ipad. Page 7 of 29

9 WARNING!!! Do not let your screen go dark (lock) during this download! You will get an error message and the ebook will not download. Once the download has finished, you will be able to read your ebook! Page 9 of 29

11 Downloading ebooks to an Android Device/ Kindle Fire Getting Started: You will first need to create an Adobe ID. You can do so by going here and selecting Don t have an Adobe ID? You will also need an app called BlueFire Reader. This is a free application available on the Google Play Store. Kindle Fire Users: If you are using a Kindle Fire, you will have a couple extra steps. Amazon has blocked the download of all third party readers, so please follow these instructions to install BlueFire on your Kindle Fire: Tap Settings on your Kindle Fire (it s the icon that looks like a gear) Tap More Scroll down until you see Device In the Device tab, set Allow installation of Applications to ON, and tap OK when you see the Warning prompt Tap here to download the Bluefire Reader APK (the Android app) Once the app has finished downloading, tap the Menu icon at the bottom of the screen and tap Downloads Tap on the file named BluefireReader.apk The Fire will ask if you are sure you want to install the app Tap Yes The installation process will start After the installation is complete, look for Bluefire Reader in your Apps collection Page 11 of 29

13 Once the application has installed, open it up. It should prompt you for your Adobe ID: Enter your ID and press Authorize. You are now ready to download ebooks! Open up the delivery on your device and press the Download for PC/Mac button: Page 13 of 29

16 Transferring ebooks to an ios device (iphone, ipad, ipod) Introduction This describes how to use a combination of Adobe Digital Editions and itunes File Transfer to transfer digital protected books to BeyondPrint Reader on your ipad. Getting Started First you will need to have BeyondPrint Reader version 1.0 or higher on your device. BeyondPrint Reader is a free application that can be found on the Apple App Store. Download BeyondPrint Reader You will also need: Apple itunes 10.0 (or higher) and ios 3.2 (or higher) Adobe Digital Editions This is free software that runs on your desktop or laptop (OSX, Windows) Downloading with Adobe Digital Editions A Unique link (URL) will be sent to you to download the electronic book. The link will present a download page to access the book Page 16 of 29

17 If you do not already have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your desktop or laptop you will be prompted to install the software and register with Adobe. Adobe Digital Editions and BeyondPrint Reader must both be authorized with the same Adobe ID. When you click the download button from the install screen, what you are really downloading is an.acsm file. There is a lot of confusion about this file type, as the.acsm is not your actual ebook. It is just a link to your ebook that allows a program like Digital Editions or BeyondPrint Reader to download the actual book. Page 17 of 29

18 When you download the.acsm file you should be presented with the option to save the file or open it with Adobe Digital Editions. Choose Open with Digital Editions. When Digital Editions sees the.acsm file it will automatically download the PDF or epub file, which is the actual ebook, and then unlock the file's DRM so that it becomes readable. At this point you should be able to read the book in Digital Editions. Page 18 of 29

19 Transferring ebooks to BeyondPrint Reader Now that you have the book downloaded to Digital Editions you should be able to find the.epub or.pdf file and transfer it to BeyondPrint Reader. First, you have to find the ebook file. Again, this is a.pdf or.epub file, not the.acsm file. Also remember that Adobe Digital Editions and BeyondPrint Reader must both be authorized with the same Adobe ID. You can always check the Info Screen of BeyondPrint Reader to authorize the reader or to see what Adobe ID you used to authorize it. Digital Edition stores the ebooks it downloads in a default location: On OSX: your- home- directory/documents/digital Editions On Windows: your- home- directory/documents/my Digital Editions Once you have located the file, you can use itunes to transfer the ebook to BeyondPrint Reader. The steps to do this are as follows. Page 19 of 29

20 1. Connect your ipad, iphone or ipod touch with BeyondPrint Reader v1.2 or higher to the computer that has itunes and Digital Editions on it. 2. You should see the device appear under Devices on the left side of itunes. Click on it. 3. With your device selected in the left panel, click on the Apps tab button at the top of the main itunes window. 4. Underneath the Synch Apps panel you should see the File Sharing panel (see above). 21 5. Click on BeyondPrint or BeyondPrint Reader under Apps in the File Sharing Panel. You should then see the ebooks you have in BeyondPrint Reader appear in the Documents list to the right. Page 21 of 29

22 6. At the bottom of the Documents list click the Add... button and browse to your library book in the Digital Editions default documents directory (usually located in My Documents\My Digital Editions ) and then choose the file. Page 22 of 29

23 7. itunes should then transfer the file to your device and BeyondPrint Reader will then automatically add this item to your BeyondPrint Reader Library. Page 23 of 29

26 Common Errors Encountered in Digital Editions When you receive this error message, you do not yet have Adobe Digital Editions installed. Please refer to the instructions in the delivery to create an Adobe ID, install Digital Editions, and download the ebook. This is an error on our end that appears when the link is broken. This happens most commonly with Hotmail and MSN addresses. Please contact support via the information provided in the delivery , noting the error message. Page 26 of 29

27 This error message will pop up when Adobe Reader tries to open the URLLink.acsm file. Digital Editions needs to open this file. To fix this, you must associate the file type.acsm with Digital Editions. Here is how to do so: On Windows 7 and Windows Vista 1. Click Start > Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a program. The 'Associate a file type of protocol with a program' window is displayed. 2. Under the 'Extensions' heading, select '.acsm' and click the 'Change program ' button. The 'Open With' dialog box is displayed. 3. Click the 'Browse ' button. A second 'Open With' dialog box is displayed. 4. Browse to 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Digital Editions and select 'digitaleditions.exe'. 5. Click 'Open'. On Windows XP and Windows Open 'My Computer' and select Tools > Folder Options. The 'Folder Options' dialog box is displayed. 2. Select the 'File Types' tab. 3. Select '.acsm' and click the 'Change' button. A list of programs is displayed. 4. Select 'Adobe Digital Editions'. 5. Click 'OK'. On Mac 1. Control- click the 'urllink.acsm' file and select 'Get Info'. The 'urllink.acsm Info' window is displayed. 2. Expand the 'Open with:' section and click 'Other '. A list of programs is displayed. 3. Select 'Adobe Digital Editions'. 4. Check the 'Always Open With' checkbox. 5. Click the 'Add' button. 6. Close the 'urllink.acsm Info' window. Page 27 of 29

29 This error is very common with those who do not authorize their computer with an Adobe ID. This means that the ebook that you are attempting to download is already associated with another computer or another Adobe ID. If you have already downloaded the ebook to a computer Authorized with an Adobe ID, please authorize the computer giving the error message.
