17 Lessons learnt from Technical DVB Study Mission Group MIMO can increase capacity. However, significant investments for operators and endusers! The spectrum efficiency of a single channel can be improved by about 7-10% compared to T2. (in line with performance improvements of ATSC3.0 vs T2) For the time being there is no technology available which will significantly increase spectral efficiency of a channel Slide 17

19 Conclusions Several European countries are working on the introduction of a 2nd generation DTT system Relevant technologies will be T2 / HEVC Demand for DTT service will continue Channel coding and modulation technologies seem to be mature - > I do not expect a T3, but we will continue to improve T2 Video coding may provide further performance gains Slide 19

20 Some Final Remarks ATSC3.0 is a marvellous piece of work! DVB is following the ATSC3.0 process with great interest DVB is still analysing the relevance of an IP based transport layer To safe guard DTT after 2030 we have to make DTT as success story by 2023! Slide 20
