Spanish is the official language of 21 countries of the world. Spanish is offered through the following courses: Bachelor of Arts Diploma of Language Bachelor of International Studies

5 FACULTY OF ARTS AND EDUCATION HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES Master of Humanitarian Assistance First course of its kind in the Asia Pacific region. Course provides an opportunity for those working in or wishing to work in the humanitarian sector to gain an industryrelevant, formal qualification. The course s unique combination of theory, practice and action based research in the field will enable students to be an effective and highly skilled worker in the sector, both in Australia and internationally.

6 FACULTY OF BUSINESS AND LAW Telstra Trading Room In partnership with Telstra, Deakin is building a live stock exchange! Will enable our students to experience market analysis, trading projections and financial modelling in a live real life environment. Deakin Law Mature Age entry into Law is now offered at mid year ALSET is no longer compulsory if students have completed 1 semester of any university study (4 credit points) Deakin's Law School Internationally Ranked Deakin University's School of Law has been ranked as one of Victoria's top three law schools. In the prestigious QS World University Rankings Deakin's School of Law was placed third in Victoria.

7 FACULTY OF HEALTH New Combined Courses Bachelor of Food and Nutrition Sciences/Bachelor of Commerce Bachelor of Information Systems/Bachelor of Health Sciences Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion is now offered at Geelong (continuing at Burwood) Bachelor of Vision Science/Master of Optometry Now a combined degree, with an optional alternative exit point from Vision Science. Offered at our Geelong Waurn Ponds in purpose-built facilities in the REACH building. By taking advantage of Deakin s trimester system, students can obtain a professional optometry qualification in just three-anda-half years of full-time study.

9 FACULTY OF SCIENCE, ENGINEERING AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT PEER MENTORING PROGRAM New students to be mentored by current second/third year students Peer-to-peer support in a discipline-specific network of 5-6 students per mentor Program aims to support new students in their academic and social transition to university life by helping them: Become familiar with the university environment, terminology, programs and requirements Gain an awareness of the support services and facilities available Develop a sense of belonging and connecting students to like-minded peers Commencing in T2 2014, the program will run for the first 5 weeks of the trimester Initially for first year IT students, with plans to extend to all SEBE students in T1 2015

10 FACULTY OF SCIENCE, ENGINEERING AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT WORK-INTEGRATED LEARNING (WIL) PROGRAM Industry placements play a valuable role in preparing students for graduate employment Program renewed for 2014, providing students with an opportunity to: Incorporate an industry work placement for credit towards their degree Gain discipline-specific industry experience Bridge the gap between the theory and practice in their chosen discipline Develop good work practices and experience work place culture Explore career options Develop a professional network Available in two formats: More information Internships typically unpaid placements of less than 100 hours Industry Based Learning (IBL) full-time, paid placements over 3, 6 or 12 months (payments = approx. 80% of graduate salary)

11 GLOBAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM Now in it s second year and growing, the program recognises, rewards and supports high achieving students to realise their dream of studying overseas Participants are enrolled in an undergraduate degree within the Faculty of SEBE and undertake 1 or 2 trimesters of study overseas at a partner institution Students are offered a $3,000 scholarship to assist with travel costs Students are required to participate in the Deakin Global Citizen Program Entry requirements = minimum ATAR of Applying is a two-stage process Apply for the program through VTAC Also submit a supplementary information form to Deakin s Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment
