2 To improve the leadership and management of PE and School Sport To improve the Teaching and Learning of PE in the school To increase the teachers and support staff knowledge and confidence in teaching PE. To ensure the school has a broad and rich curriculum by updating and improving the Long Term Plans and SOW in line with the new National Curriculum. To ensure that the resources available to the teachers, support the children s learning. The PE subject leader is a skilled professional who has developed core provision and is supporting all staff. Support has been requested to upskill subject leader in order to observe and assess teaching and learning. The majority of staff are confident teaching all areas of PE. Last year, some teachers received support in the teaching of gymnastics, through demonstration lessons and twilight courses. No formal monitoring of teaching of PE has taken place. New Schemes of Work and Long Term plans were implemented last year. Only 1hr 45 mins of curriculum PE per year group is taught per week. High Quality Physical Education raising standards of all our children in PE PE Subject Leader training PE Subject leader to attend all partnership training PE Development plan created / PE Policy updated Risks Assessments updated for all activities CPD survey to be conducted with staff Teacher observations of all staff this will provide Quality Assurance of teaching and identify teachers who / require additional support. Additional Support to identified teachers in the form of a 6 week block of support by the PE advisor Dance support for year 3-6 teachers 6 week block for all teachers Teachers to attend additional CPD sports related courses run by the Sports Review of new Schemes of Work adapt Long Term Plans in line with review. New Dance Scheme of Work purchased Review timetable look to increase PE curriculum provision from 1hr 45min to 2 hrs. Create Change for Life Club for less active children with a particular focus on Yr 3/4 2 x Health Related fitness days organised for school ( Sponsored Bounce? ) Health Week organised for the school Playtime activity increase through the use of playleaders more structured activities / 500 Health Week Data / JR 500 approx for fitness days To support National Curriculum expectations for swimming ( all Yr 6 children to be able to swim 25m or more) The number of swimming instructors was increased last year to ensure that the quality of teaching was better with smaller ratios. This was very successful Continue to use Sports Premium funding as in previous year BW /office

4 To increase the number of opportunities for children to take part in inter-school competitions ( against other schools) To increase the opportunities for children to take part in competitive sport within Hernhill School. (Intra-school) Competitive School sport increasing pupils participation in competitive school sport Enter B / C teams into the competitions to try and / gain the gold Sportsmark award. HG Increase opportunities for Yr 3/4 by entering the Sportshall Athletics competition. Use a data tracking tool to record the number of children taking part in inter-school competition. This will enable easy identification of pupils who have not taken part in a competition. Significant increase in opportunities for children to take part in inter-school competitions. 55% in KS1 and 72% in KS2. Standard of teams is very high and the school has done extremely well in competitions, winning 6 Sports competitions and coming 3 rd in Kent in the County Basketball championships. OUTSTANDING provision. 3 Intra-school competitions run last year. Sports Crew trained. In order to gain the Gold Kitemark Award, more competitions need to be run. Identify pathways for Gifted and Talented pupils Sports Crew of 10 Yr 6 pupils to be trained by the SSP. This crew will create and run a programme of intra-school competition. Aim 6 competitions throughout the year and 100% of pupils to take part; Data tracking tool used to record those pupils who have taken part Increase the number of sports leadership opportunities in the school needs to be 24 children for Gold Kitemark. / KP School Sports Competition Package inclusive of provision Service and In

Main focus for this award is intracompetition and leadership opportunities. Total so far: 7900 Other possible options =additional support for term 6 for Teaching and learning support Athelstan CP School believes that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is a unique and vital contributor to a pupil s physical literacy and well-being. A broad and balanced Physical Education Curriculum is intended to provide for pupils increasing self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement situations. Progressive learning objectives, combined with sympathetic and varied teaching approaches, endeavor to provide stimulating, enjoyable, satisfying and appropriately challenging learning experiences for all pupils. Through the selection of suitably differentiated and logically developed tasks, it is intended that pupils, irrespective of their innate ability, will enjoy success, and be motivated to further develop their individual potential. The activities offered and the teaching approaches adopted seek to provide pupils with opportunities to develop their creative and expressive abilities, through improvisation and problem-solving. Pupils are encouraged to appreciate the importance of a healthy and fit body, and begin to understand those factors that affect health and fitness. This work is closely aligned with the school s Physical Activity Policy and Healthy School Status.
