PE Curriculum Vision: Our Physical Education vision is to: Raise the profile of PE within our school by setting up a School PE Council. Ensure that pupil participation reaches 100% through the increased entry and setting up of Intra and Inter related competitions and increasing the variety of afterschool clubs on offer. Increase pupil knowledge and self-awareness in regards to healthy eating and the importance of regular exercise. This will be achieved by hosting Healthy Body workshops and completing classroom-based projects on the mornings of School Games Days. We will also ensure that the 10% of pupils who regularly miss PE are participating by having a stock of spare PE kit in each classroom. Increase pupil enjoyment within the subject. This will be measured by handing out pupil questionnaires at the end of the academic school year, as per last year. This enjoyment and the ability of pupils to take ownership of their PE experiences will be enhanced by the introduction of new Playground Leaders, something that Ofsted have discussed as a key feature in reflecting Outstanding practise. Create an environment where pupils can express themselves within a variety of sporting activities without the risk of ridicule or embarrassment. Instil confidence within pupils that can be taken forward into their teenage and adult lives. The Coalition Government recently stated within their Outstanding Physical Education for all report that during Ofsted observations between , one third of teachers had limited subject knowledge within PE and they used poor levels of assessment which led to superficial planning and insufficient challenge, particularly for the more able pupils. At Devonshire Road, we aim to overcome this by providing quality CPD for staff and embedding regular half-termly pupil assessments within PE. This will help identify Gifted and Talented pupils as well as pupils performing below age-related expectations. Planning files will be collected and monitored each half term. Focused after-school clubs will be created to support the needs and development of both SEN and Gifted and Talented pupils. Raise achievements for all. During recent inspections, Ofsted stated that Boys and girls, disabled pupils and those with special educational needs made similar progress

in PE and our aim at Devonshire Road Primary School is to ensure that we do the same and nurture pupil development as much as possible. The new PE funding will allow us to: Provide pupils with the chance to experience new WOW events/sports and hopefully encourage them to take up an active interest in these within future years. Provide In-house training and external staff CPD courses which will equip staff with the skills to become Outstanding PE teachers. Provide In-house training by releasing two members of staff (LS and AG) to teamteach and develop staff CPD within the school. Provide pupils with newer, more specialised equipment which will enable them to become more actively involved within a variety of sports. Priority 1: a) In-House Staff Training provided by Devonshire Road Primary School staff: Staff Meetings focuses will be based on those areas that teaching staff highlighted as personal areas of concern during the teacher questionnaire which was handed out to staff in the Summer Term: 1) Autumn 1 - Brain Child and Basic Moves / Warm Up and Team Building - Mr Gagg and Mr Sharrock 2) Autumn 2 The new PE Curriculum / Ofsted Inspections / PE Vision Mr Sharrock 3) Spring 1 Gymnastics - Led by Gary Kirby (British Gymnastics Association). 4) Summer 2 Netball Mr Sharrock. Further to this, LS to provide CPD training for Teaching Assistants to outline the PE Vision itself and how it will be implemented within school (held on Thursday 4 th February 2014). LS to propose the PE Vision to School Governors for approval on 10 th October and provide an update on this during Governor Day on 20 th March b) Release time for Mr Sharrock and Mr Gagg to team teach with Devonshire Road Primary School teachers:

- LS and AG to have half a day release time per week to support class teachers in the teaching of PE. AG (Thursday morning 3 x 1 hour sessions) and LS (Friday afternoon 2 x 1 hour sessions). The aim is to increase the number of Outstanding PE lessons during observations. LS release time focus: Warm-Up activities/invasion Games Each class teacher will receive 6 x 1 hour support (Friday PM) Autumn 1: Year 3B (Developing the use and range of warm up activities within Invasion Games) Autumn 2: Year 4SB and Year 4V (Developing the use and range of warm up activities within Invasion Games) Spring 1: Year 5W and Year 5A (Football-specific drills) Spring 2: Year 2B and Year 2L (Football-specific drills) AG release time focus: Gymnastics Each class teacher will receive 6 x 1 hour support (Thursday AM) Autumn 1: Year 1BC Autumn 1: Year 1A Autumn 1: Year 2L Autumn 2: Year 2F Autumn 2: Reception S Autumn 2: Year 3S Following this, I will conduct formal PE lesson observations with the following teachers to find out if the Team Teach sessions have been successful. Monday 17 th March 2014 Miss Brockless 9:30am Miss Bullough 10:45am Mr Varnom 11:30am

Wednesday 19 th March 2014 Miss Reid (KS1 1:45pm). Thursday 20 th March 2014 Miss Atcha 10:45am Miss Ward 11:30am c) External Training courses: Staff will be provided with the following CPD opportunities. More to follow as the academic year progresses. We will strive to offer each course to two members of staff. Gymnastics Course = Intermediate Primary Level Gymnastics Course, Focus Institute of Gymnastics, Widnes, Gary Kirby, (2 rd and 3 rd December 2013). Lee and Shazia ( 180 each). Netball Level 1 Course = (29/30 march 2014 and 26 th April 2014) Middleton Arena, Manchester. Lee and Pusmeena ( 200 each). Netball High 5 s Course = Lee and Pusmeena ( 20 each). Tag Rugby Lee and Tracey ( 25 each). Impact: Through internal and external training, Devonshire Road Primary School staff will acquire new skills which will allow them to lead after-school clubs for children. Such CPD will increase the sustainability of pupil involvement within these sports. Priority 2: Increase the level of participation within Level 1 Intra-School Competitions: a) Clubs run internally by Devonshire Road Primary School staff: This will take place by offering the following after-school clubs: Autumn Term: Cricket (Lee + Gill Year 3/4 Monday), Gymnastics (Tony KS1 Monday), Table Tennis (Shazia + Sharif Year 3/4 Friday), Netball (Zoe + Pusmeena Year 5/6 Thursday), Dodgeball (Chloe + Grace Year 5/6 Tuesday), Wake Up, Shake Up (Lee and KS1 staff Tuesday morning KS1 and KS2).

Year 5 Climbing Wall from Bolton Council ( 200), Bikeability (Arranged for and ) Archery 600 (total for year 5 and 6) archery@doody.co.uk

Year 6 Tag Rugby (Louis Critchlow Kadoo Sports Coaching Cost - Possibly free), Archery 600 (total for year 5 and 6) archery@doody.co.uk c) Increase the level of participation within Level 2 Inter-School Competitions: Teams will be entered into the following events: 1) Football league entered 2) Netball league entered 3) Tag Rugby tournament entered 4) Swimming competition entered 5) Gymnastics tournament entered 6) Road Bike Competition entered. Impact: The provision of Level 1 and 2 competitions will enable pupils to partake in activities that they may not already have access to. By providing WOW experiences to pupils, this will generate initial pupil interest and after-school clubs (Level 1) and also Level 2 competitions will help embed future interest and development, particularly in football, tag rugby and archery. Priority 3: Increase the amount and quality of equipment available at Devonshire Road Primary School: The following new equipment will be purchased as a result of a PE Stock Audit that was conducted in September This highlighted which equipment was either sparse or in need of replacing : - Team kits that can be worn when our teams play in Inter-School competitions ( 652) - Football goals (2 mini / 2 ball pen size ) - Footballs ( 175) - Netballs balls and bibs / basketballs / rugby balls set ( ) - Visually impaired football equipment ( 21.00) - Hockey set ( 39) - Ten pin bowling sets ( 23.80) - New Age Kurling equipment ( ) - Dodgeball equipment ( 65) - Rounders ( 63.50) - Bean bags ( 15) - Boxing ( 225) - Badminton equipment ( 258)

- Tennis Balls ( 42.95) - Trophy for School Games Day ( 40.00) - Pay for the drawing of a new netball court on the playground ( 500) Impact: The funding will be used to buy specialised equipment that the children have never been able to use before e.g. boxing/archery/kurling, visually impaired football. As a result, with this new equipment, after-school clubs will be set up to give pupils opportunities to get involved within these sports. Set up PE Council: Year 1: Oliver Hart and Hasan Rabbani Year 2: Libby Richmond and Aizah Khan Year 3: Joshua Massey and Thomas Battel Year 4:Thomas Seville and Josh Taylor Year 5: Lewis Taylor and Zubair Akram Year 6:Brandon Coop and Brandon Bowling. Assessment: Each class teacher to conduct half-termly PE class assessments by completing the PE assessment tracker. Pupils who exceed, meet or fall below age-related expectations will be tracked by Lee Sharrock. These assessments will lead to the creation of a Gifted and Talented after-school club which will be led by Lee Sharrock and Pusmeena Ward. A new partnership with Andy Thorpe and the Grace Centre (next door to Devonshire Road Primary School) has been set up to target those children who continually underachieve within PE. The sessions will run after school during the Summer Term of 2014 and allow pupils to develop their coordination and technical skills within a fun environment. Summary of spending: Total Funding will = Half a day release time for LS and AG ( 950 per half term / 75 per half day). - External Staff CPD Courses 810 (Based on 2 participants taking part on each course).

- Gymnastics Staff Meeting CPD Gary Kirby - WOW Factor activities Equipment Drawing of a Netball Court on playground Total as of end of Spring ( left to spend). Expected Outcomes: - DRPS staff expertise will increase and more Good with Outstanding Features lessons will be evident through external CPD courses, in-house training and teamteaching. - Pupil participation within sport will increase both within Level 1 and 2 competitions. - Pupils will be given the chance to experience new WOW sports and hopefully take up an active interest in these within future years. - Pupils will have newer, more specialised equipment which will enable them to become more actively involved within a variety of sports. Measured Outcomes / Recorded Impact: - 1 recorded cancellation of a PE lesson since the creation of the PE lesson Cancellation Log during the Autumn Term. This has shown a huge change in staff attitudes towards PE since LS took over leading the subject. - 6 lesson Observations completed, 5 being Good with Outstanding features. This highlights the positive impact that the Team Teach sessions have had. - Staff training / CPD / Staff Meetings Positive feedback from staff and we now have qualified staff in tag rugby, football, netball and gymnastics. Staff questionnaires will be sent out during Summer 2 to help record changes in staff confidence within the teaching of PE. The questionnaire will also form the basis for next year s PE Vision in which staff views will help highlight how to improve PE even further. - Money spent on new / spare PE kit has shown an increase in pupil participation and there is no record of any pupil missing PE due to not having appropriate kit. - Money spent on brand new sports kits led to our school having a strong identity and presence at the recent Football Competition at Bolton School.

- Pupils introduced to new, exciting sports, especially fencing and archery through the spending of money on WOW factors. Several children have already told me that they have taken up fencing and archery outside of school. - The change in staff morale and confidence in teaching PE can be further highlighted by the fact that every single member of the teaching staff plus 8 support staff have led a PE after-school club at some time this year. - Accurate half-termly PE assessments have been recorded by staff and this has led to SEN and G&T clubs being set up after analysing this data. - KS1 and KS2 have each taken part in two School Games Days which has heightened competition and team morale throughout the school PE-related after-school clubs have been run this academic year, a phenomenal increase on last year, in which there were The purchase of new equipment has enabled staff to lead more varied and unconventional after-school clubs like boxercise, badminton, visually impaired football and boules. - The drawing of a netball court has enabled our school to host a staff vs pupils game and has provided a legacy for future inter-school competitions against other schools. - Hothersall Lodge should provide Year 3 pupils with an amazing opportunity to develop teamwork and cooperation skills. This will definitely benefit Year 3 classes that have sometimes struggled with behavioural issues in the past.
