1 June 2016 Dear Parents We would like to welcome the families of children who join us this month to our nursery. Cakes We have some children with serious allergies and we have to be very careful when preparing food for the children. Bev can make birthday cakes for children at a cost of 6. The cakes are free from additives and made with free range eggs and fresh ingredients on the day. We are scrupulous when preparing food and have just received the 5 star food hygiene award for the 6 th year in a run The children including the birthday girl or boy then help to decorate the cake. If you would like to order a cake just speak to Bev or a member of staff who can book it in for you. Pre-school Trip to Eureka on Thursday 16 th June The pre-schoolers will be going on a trip to Eureka on Thursday 16 th June. The children will be getting the train to Eureka. The children will be learning all about science projects including how things move, the weather and our bodies so this trip will tie in nicely. Please can children arrive no later than 8.30am so we can eat breakfast and set off in good time? Baby room We have been learning all about ourselves. We have been promoting lots of self-help and independence skills. We are really impressed with how our babies are feeding themselves and finding their water bottles in hot weather. We had a lovely trip to the duck pond and the babies took a real interest in the elder flower around the pond. Children have taken a real interest in food. They loved playing and gluing with pasta so

2 we have extended their learning with exploring other foods. Watch out for lots of messy play whist we are doing our food glorious food topic. Toddler room Toddler room have also enjoyed learning more about Ourselves In particular children enjoyed sharing family photos and naming people excitedly! We focused on the book Monkey puzzle by Julia Donaldson. This is a classic favourite which introduces matching baby animals to their parents. Children worked hard at brushing their teeth and we learnt about the importance of oral hygiene. Staff in the toddler room have been very impressed with how well the children have welcomed the new staff into the room they have really helped them settle in. We are looking forward to enjoying a queen s picnic to celebrate her birthday and we will be baking jam tarts. We will also be looking at learning more about Eid. Quick note: Please ensure you bring children s water bottles in each day and take them home each night. Thank you.

3 Pre school Our animal topic was off to a flying start with lots of enthusiastic children ready to learn more. It was amazing how quickly children learnt where animals came from and which habitat they lived in. Learning about dangerous animals also triggered a fascination for some of the children with lots of interesting questions and discussions. When we learnt about farm animals our favourite activity was milking cows with rubber gloves! We enjoyed a trip out to the library where children got to pick out their own book. Our books of focus have been Squash and a Squeeze by Julia Donaldson and Handas Surprise by Eileen Browne. These stories provided lots of talking points and extended their connections of animals and countries. Children learnt an African animal poem and by doing this also looked at rhyme and alliteration. We are focusing on science now and look forward to some weird and wonderful learning ahead. We are currently busy making contact with children s school s to make transition meetings.

4 School Leavers Party 25 th August On Thursday 25 th August school leavers party 2pm-4pm all school leavers welcome even if your child does not do this day or has left in the run up to this date. We will be having party food and games for the children to enjoy one last final get together before they all go off to school. Teddy bears picnic for Charity Friday 24 th June We have a teddy bears picnic planned for Friday the 24 th June to raise money for children with brain injuries. Children that will be attending that day can bring a teddy bear in from home to accompany them at the picnic. As it is for charity we will be asking that you bring in a 1 to help raise funds. Water Bottles Please can you make sure that the water bottles for children are labelled and are brought in and taken home by parents every day. Summer warmers As the weather is getting much hotter please could parents bring in their children s hats and sun creams clearly labelled? It is easier if children have hats and cream that stay with us at nursery. Electronic Finger Pad door entry If any parents/guardians are still not registered just come and see either Gemma or I and we will scan your fingerprints so you can use the biometric door scan. The system should enable us to give a better service to parents where we appreciate answering the door when we are playing in the garden can take a few minutes.

5 I would just like to add that the door should not be opened to anyone who is unknown as a matter of security. Fees Thank you to all parents who pay fees promptly. As we are a small business we are trying to convert all payments to standing orders which will assist us in paying our bills and help us operate effectively. Most parents find this is the best way to pay us as it assists in their monthly budgeting. If you need a standing order form just ask either Gemma or Christine.
