1 VeriGuide Basic - Tutorial A. Log in Page Open Internet browser. Please refer to Appendix A for a list of supported system platforms and Internet browsers. Type the following URL: You should then arrive at the following page: You can use your user ID and password to login. If you do not have an account, you can click register here to apply for one. (Section F). If you have an account but you have forgotten the password, you can click forgot password to retrieve a new one (Section G). 1

2 B. Account Page After you log in to VeriGuide, you will see the account page. On the page, we will see a short welcome message, and below there is a list of services by VeriGuide. In the figure above, there are two subscribed services. VeriView is for viewing reports shared by other VeriGuide users. VeriGuide Basic is to be described fully in this document. Others are beyond the scope of this tutorial. You can click on VeriGuide Basic to go to the upload page (Section C). You can change your user account information by clicking user account tab. The following page will be shown: 2

3 After you have made changes to the information, press save changes to complete. Make sure fields with asterisk are filled in. You may also change your password via the password tab. Click submit after completing the information required. Lastly, you can enter any promotional code you have in the promotional code tab. 3

4 By providing the right promotional code, you may activate services, enjoy more quotas, or any other services. C. Upload Page By clicking into VeriGuide Basic, you will see the upload page. The upload page should look as follows. File Upload (Single Upload and Bulk Upload): For single upload. to submit a document for checking, click browse and select a file. For bulk upload, to submit multiple files or files in batch for checking, please compress the files 4

5 in zip and then click browse and select the zip file. File Upload (File Formats): Documents supported include Microsoft Word (doc/docx), Excel (xls/xlsx), PowerPoint (ppt/pptx), OpenOffice, Adobe Acrobat PDF (.pdf), HTML (.html/.htm), plain text (.txt) and zip files (.zip). Parameter Tuning: You may change a few parameters to adjust the checking process. Leniency refers to how strict you are in your standard of plagiarism. A small number indicates you are more strict, and therefore, more severe matches will be caught, and more results will appear in the originality report. Minimum length refers to the least number of words in a sentence, below which the sentence will not be checked. A higher number results in fewer matches in your report. Originality Report Sent To: By default, one copy of the originality report will be sent to your own address. It is also possible to share your originality report to at most three addresses. To share the report, you need to provide their addresses in additional addresses text field, with one address per line. Only registered users can view the report. If the address is not a registered account, he/she will be invited to create an account first. On the right side of the page, there are also a brief summary of your account information, a report quick summary, and a quick textbox for you to easily share VeriGuide to your buddies via . D. Report Page To view the report summary, click on reports on the top menu bar. A list of reports will be shown. You may sort by clicking the header, and view the report by click the link on last column of the table. 5

6 E. Getting Online Help To obtain online help from the system, click on help on the top menu. In the help page, there is a variety of topics that explain the system, and you can download system manuals here. F. Registration Page You may apply for a new account through the registration page. The URL is On the page, you will see an online application form. 6

7 Fill in the information needed. Items with asterisk are fields that have to be completed. If you have a promotion code, you may enter the code to enjoy the offer concerned. You can also enter your promotion code later, after your account is created. 7

8 You have to agree to our terms of use before you can proceed. After you have completed the form, you will receive an acknowledgement. You should also receive an that contains the link to activate the account. By clicking the activation link, your account will be ready for use, and you should receive the following message. You may now go to the login page, use your address and password to login to VeriGuide. You can receive a welcome that contains the link of VeriGuide s login page as well. 8

9 G. Forgot Password If you have forgotten your login password, click on forgot password in the login page. In the form below, type your address that you have provided in the registration process, and click submit. After you have provided the correct address, the following short message tells you that the reset of password has been successful. Check your to obtain the new password that the system generates for you. For security concerns, you are strongly encouraged to login to VeriGuide, and reset the password in the account management page.
