4 FASN Annual Conference 2014 School Nursing: Promoting Health and Academic The Eighteenth FASN Annual School Nurses Conference will be held at Florida Atlantic University, Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. This year s conference will enable School Nurses to obtain knowledge and skills in current issues that are impacting school nursing practice. Our conference presenters are skilled specialists in their respective fields. Share time with your school nurse colleagues and join together as we continue to move forward in School Nursing Practice in Florida. Up to 9.0 contact hours, plus 3 additional pre-conference hours will be given to nurses completing attendance requirements. Contact hours are provided through the Florida Department of Health in Polk County, Florida Board of Nursing Approved Provider Number NCE2832. The learner will: Program Objectives Preconference Session: 1. Explore ways to improve asthma outcomes by creating healthier school environments. 2. Utilize the Healthier Weight Initiative and the School Nurse Obesity Prevention Kit to promote healthier lifestyles in students, families and staff. 3. Clarify the school nurse's connection to and interaction with the legal system and the Nurse Practice Act. General Conference Session: 1. Synthesize the powerful connections between school nursing and positive educational outcomes. 2. Identify ways school nurses can facilitate student and family understanding and access to services of the Affordable Care Act. 3. Recognize and respond appropriately to dermatological lesions affecting the school age student. 4. Develop ways to respond to families vaccine hesitancy and the meningitis vaccine. 5. Gain insight into the reporting procedures and investigative process of mandatory reporting. 6. Collaborate within and among school nurses and their communities while developing effective strategies and opportunities for networking. 7. Understand anaphylaxis management, especially as it relates to epinephrine administration, and in the context of recent Florida legislation. 8. Define and describe latest management of eye infections commonly seen in the school setting. 9. Understand the scope and complexity of human trafficking, and recognize victim indicators.
