1 Falmouth Tall Ships Regatta 2014 Accessibility FAQ We have done our best to make the Tall Ships Regatta as accessible as possible. However, due to the nature of the activities, it is not possible to a have a fully inclusive event. Finding out further information All event information is on the event website Further information from Falmouth Visitor Information Centre (31p per minute plus network charges). How do I get there? The event is being held at various venues in Falmouth with the main event site being Falmouth Docks. Other key entertainment sites are The Moor, Church Street Car Park, Custom House Quay and Events Square. Please see event map for more details. By Bus Buses run daily to Falmouth from most local towns. For details of bus times contact Traveline South West on or The postcode for Falmouth Docks is TR11 4NR. All services alight on The Moor. You can travel from The Moor to the Docks using the ferry from Prince of Wales Pier (200 yards) or on the Falmouth Town Shuttle Bus Service. Unfortunately, these services are not wheelchair accessible. By Train There is a regular train service with connections to Penzance, London and the Midlands. Change at Truro for the Maritime Line to Falmouth. Alight at Falmouth Docks station for the main event site. There will be an extended half-hourly service throughout the day with three coaches on each train. There will be a special train timetable for the Truro to Falmouth line (available from early August). Falmouth Town station will be closed during the event. 1

By Ferry to Falmouth Fal River Links run ferries sailing between Truro, Falmouth and St Mawes. For more information on all the ferry times see or phone (31p per minute plus network charges). Please note that access to the ferry is via steps with a handrail. The boarding steps on Custom House Quay, Prince of Wales Pier and St Mawes Quay are fairly steep and can be slippery. Access is therefore not available for wheelchair users. If you have partial or limited mobility, please contact Fal River Cornwall to discuss your requirements with a member of the team. The taxi rank is approximately one mile from the Docks entrance and it will take around 20 minutes to walk, or you could take the ferry from The Docks to Prince of Wales Pier. The National Trust car park is closed because it will be used for viewing. Parking is being provided on private land so there is NO free parking for Trust members. West-bound traffic only (towards the car park) between 9am and 1pm, and East-bound traffic (from the car park) only between 1.30pm and 4pm. Strictly no returns before 1.30pm! 8 Drop off Melvill Road near Falmouth Hotel (approx. 200 yards from Docks entrance) Road closures and Parking Restrictions The main shopping streets in Falmouth will be closed August daily. Castle Drive will be closed on 31 August. To assist with traffic flow, extensive No Waiting restrictions will be put in place during the event. Disabled Badge holders are NOT exempt from this and cannot park within the restrictions. Signs will be put in place to show where the restrictions apply. Please park responsibly, leaving roads clear for emergency vehicles. Toilet Opening Times for Thursday, Friday & Saturday are as follows: Grove Place Car Park Prince of Wales Pier Webber Street Kimberly Park Church Street Car Park Falmouth Docks Events Square There is a changing places toilet at Ships and Castle, Castle Drive Falmouth, TR11 4NG Tel: Access to go on board a Tall Ship Unfortunately, the Docks are not suitable for Mobility Scooters Whilst the surface is slightly uneven there is full wheelchair access to the wharfs in the Docks. Access to ships is via gangway and therefore not suitable for wheelchairs. However, TS Tenacious is accessible and therefore wheelchair users will be able to access her decks to enjoy an on board experience. Some electric wheelchairs are not able to access Tenacious, but they have a manual chair available that you can transfer into if you wish. Presently you do not need to book and Tenacious will be available to go on board when the Docks are open. 9

10 Will I be able to view the Parade of Sail? Pendennis Point There are 45 disabled parking spaces at Pendennis Point where the views will be spectacular and you may be able to see the parade from your car. Please note that these spaces have to be pre-booked ( ). St Anthony Head There will be dedicated parking for disabled visitors in a field with views to the ships. Seating There is very limited seating at Pendennis Point and it is highly recommended that you bring appropriate seating. Charges/Fees All the key events are free including the evening entertainment. There are some costs for fairground & simulators, horse carriage rides etc. You can check on the website if the specific event or activity is free by checking the categories box on the event entry. Exhibitions & Activities All event locations are wheelchair accessible; however, there are a number of activities that are not suitable for wheelchair users. 11 Circulation and movement around the event There will be occasions when the event sites are particularly busy and it may be more difficult to manoeuvre. Guide & Hearing Dogs Visitors can bring Guide Dogs and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf into the Docks. Other dogs are not allowed. 11
