1 OASIS PHOTO CONTEST 2012 OFFICIAL GUIDELINES If you re interested in participating in Oasis Photo Contest 2012, please read carefully these guidelines before registrating for the competition. Article 1 - THE ORGANIZATION: Oasis magazine, Banca d'alba, and group AITN present Oasis Photo Contest 2012, the international prize dedicated to nature and environment photography, open to photographers from all around the world, amateurs and professionals, and even minors can participate (with the consent of a parent) in the special sections for them. People who are part of the jury, and their relatives, cannot register to the competition. The deadline for acceptance of images is December Article 2 - THE JURY: The jury will select and classify the best works at its sole discretion. Images in which it is presumed that animals were harmed will be rejected. The jury will focus on the pieces that contain technical, environmentalist and natural relevance. Photos that present technical deficiencies will receive negative feedback, in spite of their natural value. Mario Tozzi, Michel and Christine Denis- Huot, Tiziana Faraoni, Jago Corazza, Sergio Pitamitz, Egidio Trainito, Anca Mara and Christian Ricci make part of the jury Jury meetings will be held from January 11 to January Article 3 - THE SECTIONS: The competition is divided into 10 sections. This division is based on a conceptual estructure and not on taxonomy. Each section is marked by a specific letter. P) LANDSCAPES It's the images that represent natural habitats. They can be either complete (free of any sign of human presence) or partially or totally modified by man. M) MAMMALS It refers to images depicting mammals in a natural state, it can be wildlife pictures or portraits, with the exception of whales that shall be sent under the Underwater photography section and bats that should go under Birds. U) BIRDS Images that depict birds in their natural state, widlife photography or portrait. This section is also for bats T) ALL THE OTHER ANIMALS This section is for all the other types of animals that are not included in the aforementioned sections. In other words animals that don't belong in the sections of Mammals, Birds, Underwater and Pets. Ie: reptiles, amphibians, arthropods, etc. F) PORTFOLIO: PHOTOGRAPHIES THAT TELL A STORY It refers to five or more images linked together by a logical sequence. The subject must be developed by a minimum of 5 images and a maximum of 10. The photos can be taken in sequence or in different moments but strictly connected with each other, and they must tell a story about nature, wild life, ethology or natural environments and territory. S) UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY

2 Underwater photography is the process of taking photographs while under water. G) PEOPLE Are the images that represent man, population or tribes and ethnicity all over the world, in particular people that live in contact with natural environments or are still linked to primal traditions and costumes. V) PLANTS It's for the images depicting flowers, plants, mushrooms, and any subject that belongs to the plan world. A) PETS The images that represent known domestic animal species, either farm or house animals, can participate in this section. Wild or exotic animals in captivity will not be accepted. R) SHOOTING TECHNIQUES Images created using special shooting techniques such as: DIGISCOPING: It's a shooting technique that applies to photography when done with a digital, reflex or compact camera plugged to a telescope. HDR (High dynamic range): It refers to an image made of a series of multiple shots merged together with a software in order to obtain a picture with a mayor latitudinal exposure. STITCHING: All the images done by assembling two or more shots in order to create a wider image, vertically, horizontally or both. FOCUS STITCH: It's the images obtained by assembling several focused images to get the all sharp effect. TRAPPOLAGGIO: It's the images shot with the help of remote controls, sensors, and night flashes (with sensors) if necessary, and without having the camera in direct contact with the photographer LIGHTS AND FORMS: It refers to the images that interpret nature in a creative and artistic way, using light, colors, movement, etc. B) BABY This section is for the little ones. Kids that on have not yet reached the age of 14 may submit their work (a maximum of 9 images per participant) which shall be related to one or more topics of those already described in the other sections. J) JUNIOR This section is for the people that on 31/12/2012 have not yet reached the age of 18. They may submit up to a maximum of 9 images which shall be related to one or more themes of those already described in the other sections.

3 Article 4 - REGISTRATION: Registration to the competition can be done by filling out the form on the site. This procedure gives the user a code (the author code) which is vital for all stages of the competition. When registering, it is very important to enter a valid address so that the system can send the author code and the password which are necessary to have access to the personal account. Therefore entries sent in any other way ( , fax, traditional mail) won't not be accepted. Registration is considered complete once the registration fee is received. Article 5 - PAYMENT: Payment can be sent only after receiving the author code from the site's system. The registration fee is 22 euros (12 euro minors entering under Baby or Junior), and can be sent either online (using the credit card option of our site or through Paypal) or sending a bank transfer or postal money order, in which case it's still necessary to indicate the author code received by . While filling the registration form it is possible to buy the official catalog of the contest for half- price (12 euros instead of 25, which is the price for non participants) plus the regular shipping charges (for Italy, the shipping costs will be 4 euros.) Catalogs will be sent to the addresses indicated on the registration form, on February 14, Registration allows you to book just one special priced catalog for user. Article 6 - IMAGE TYPES: Each competitor can participate in one or more sections. For each section the maximum number of entries is 4 images, with the exception of the section Portfolio which allows a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 images. The photographs must be sent as digital files. Photos shot with film will be accepted, however they must be digitalized in the required format prior to submission. Photos are expected to be sent in high resolution (300 dpi.) When printed the shorter side must be at least 15 cm (6 inches), or 1800 pixels. All works must depict an accurate reflection of the subject and the scene just as they appeared to the author at the moment of shooting. Digitally altered photos that were modified beyond optimization purposes will be disqualified. Adjustments of color, contrast, brightness and sharpness, removal of dust and scratches and cutting are accepted. The addition, duplication, deletion or moving of objects in pictures won't be accepted, nor will the use of digital filters and artistic effects. Authors should be in possession of the original files, as shot by the camera and without any form of digital manipulation, in RAW, TIFF, JPG, or DNG format, or as negatives. The jury reserves the right to request these original files if necessary. If the author doesn't possess RAW or DNG files, or if they only have JPG or TIFF files, they will have to present the shots that followed and preceded the image in question. If the author fails to provide the jury with any of the aforementioned files, the submitted photo might be disqualified. Article 7 - SUBMISSION OF IMAGES: Photographs shall be sent in the form of digital files only. They can be sent online through the website's submission form or they can be mailed out on a CD, DVD, or USB stick to the our office in: AITN, Via Fornace Sorba 2, 12051, ALBA (CN), Italy. During the process of uploading photos online the system assigns a special code to the files and they are renamed by it. If the files are to be sent by traditional mail, they ought to be manually encoded and saved with their new system name before being sent on the CD,DVD, or USB stick. The name of the files should follow this pattern: A999X1 where A999 (one letter and three numbers) is the author code that's generated by the system and ed to the author after the first step of registration is done, X is the letter that stands for the section (each section is represented by a letter) and 1 is the progressive number of the photo (since users can only send four images per section, number 1 will go to the first submitted photo, 2 will go to the second photo, 3 for the third and 4 will be the fourth). Is using traditional mail images must be sent with the printable form found on the registration page of the site. The printable form is a PDF file which should be downloaded, printed and thoroughly filled out in

4 capital letters. The media, with the images presented for the competition, will not be given back to the participants. Article 8 - IMAGE RIGHTS: Rights and ownership of images belong to authors. However, they shall authorize oasisphotocontest.com the free use of their submitted photographs for the publishing of the official catalog of the contest, OASIS magazine, Oasisphotocontest.com and Oasisweb.it, for projections during promotional events related to our contest, for the exhibitions of winning photographs that take place at the end of the competition, and for any other need regarding the promotion of Oasis Photo Contest. Authors will be credited every time their images are used. Article 9 - PRIZES: Among all submitted works, a winning image will be selected and it will receive the title of Oasis World Best Photography 2012, the author of said image will win a Oasis Photo Contest's trophy, and a check for 2000 euros. Asides from the winning photo, the jury will select three images per category and they will be given the title of first, second and third place winners. First place winners will receive a prize of 500 euros. Second place and third place winners will receive 200 euros and 100 euros respectively. Winners can't choose their prizes. Italian contestants also compete for the title of Best Italian Author 2012, the winner of said title will receive the Africa Wild Truck prize, which consists of a trip to Africa for two people. All Italian authors will also take part in an extra ranking that goes from the fourth to tenth place. Prizes will be listed on the website. The jury reserves the right of assigning additional special prizes to classified photographs. All winning works will be published in Oasis magazine. Prizes must be collected in person by the winner at the award ceremony or by a person sent in representation of the winner. Otherwise the prizes can be sent to the winner, at the expense of the recipient. Article 10 - THE JURY: The work of the jury will be as follows: a first selection to identify the pictures that are qualified to compete, after which a second selection will take place to indicate the semi- finalists and the finalists works. Then, among all finalists, the jury will choose the nominees for the awards. The dates on which we'll publish these results will be announced on the website. Nominees will be asked to send a short resume, a personal photo and a descriptive text that will work as caption for their images. Article 11 - THE CATALOG: For this year's competition a catalog will be released at the end of the contest. OPC's 2012 catalog will be similar as the one produced in It'll have three sections for the winning photos, finalist and mentioned works. The catalog can be requested on the registration page and it will have a charge of euros. A gallery of all qualified works will be published on the website. Article 12 - PRIVACY: Regarding the article n. 13 of Legislative Decree n June 30, 2003, (the 'Code concerning the protection of personal data' hereinafter), that the personal data provided in the competition Oasis Photocontest 2012 will be saved by AITN on an electronic database and will be protected and treated in the most appropriate manner to ensure the security and confidentiality in accordance to what's stated in the Code. The information provided will be used only for purposes strictly connected to the contest. To this end the data may be published online on the contest's website ( or in the catalog of the competition. The provision of data is necessary in order to participate in the competition. Authors may exercise their rights according to the article n. 7 of the Legislative Decree no. 196/2003 (including the rights to obtain confirmation of the existence of data concerning the author and the possibility of updating, correcting or deleting said data) by making a request to the legal owner of the database and AITN president, with registered office at Via Fornace Sorba 2, Alba (CN), Eugenio Ecclesiastico.

5 Article 13 - FINAL: The guidelines Oasis Photo Contest 2012 concerning: rules of procedure, assignment of prizes, calendar of events and anything not covered here, refers to anything that's published on the official website of the competition Participation in the competition takes for granted the knowledge and acceptance of the rules and regulations found on this page in their entirety.
