1 1) School Days is a photographic competition hosted by Myerscough College open to young people at school which meet the criteria set out in the terms below a) In the terms set below, the word School refers to the home school that when registered enables only its learners to submit photographs to the School Days competition. The word entrant or learner refers to the individual person who must meet the criteria set in Section 6 (below), who submits a photograph to be judged in the School Days competition and falls under the umbrella of that associated School which registered to enable its entrants to participate. b) It is solely the school s responsibility to ensure that its entrants are aware of the terms set out for the School Days photography competition. Myerscough College accepts no responsibility for an entrant not knowing or understanding the terms of reference below. All Schools and entrants by entering the School Days Photography Competition agree to the terms and conditions set in this document. An initial starter pack will be sent to schools upon registration covering the details below. 2) Entries are limited to Schools in the geographical areas listed; Lancashire, Cumbria, Blackburn and Darwen, Burnley, Merseyside of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Schools outside of this area are not eligible for this competition. 3) Entries must have been taken within the last 3 months immediately prior to the closing date. Images that have won an award (including winner, runner-up, highly commended, commended) in a major competition or that have been entered in such a competition where the results are still pending, are not eligible for entry. 4) All entries must be submitted digitally and must be uploaded via the Myerscough address No entries will be accepted by mail. An individual cannot submit an entry without first registering with Myerscough College. An individual learner cannot submit an entry on their own, all submissions must be done by a nominated registered schools staff member. 5) The competition opens on March 2013 and closes at MIDNIGHT on the 22 nd May The address will remain open for two hours after this time to allow for the completion of entries already registered. No entries or image uploads can be accepted after this time. Please make sure that you allow enough time to complete your entry. 6) There is one theme open to learners currently in Years 9, 10 & 11 at school. a) The theme for the competition is orientated around School. School Days. Brief-to capture the spirit of your School at a time you feel most suits and expresses the best of a day. This could include social situations, sporting or classroom based activities, anything you feel captures the spirit of that time and day. Photographs will be judged on photographic merit which use the basic principles such as composition, light, subject, atmosphere and mood. Entries are not limited to what is used to take the photograph, only that the image must be digital and submitted using the published guidelines. A maximum total of 15 images per school, multiple entries are allowed from one learner. There is no fee to enter the Myerscough Photography competition. 7) The overall winner of, School Days Myerscough College Photography Competition, will be the learner in Year 9, 10 or 11 whose image is selected as the best by the judging panel.

2 8) Initial entry. Image files should be ed to as jpegs (72ppi) with 800 pixels along the longest length. When resizing your pictures, please make sure that you do not overwrite your original file. You must ensure that you upload your images the right way round. No responsibility can be taken by the organisers for images that are submitted backwards or incorrectly orientated. Black & white images are eligible, as are images of panoramic format. 9) File naming protocol. Please name the digital files with the entrants surname, initial and school initials. For example, if the entrants name is Joe Bloggs and the school is Myerscough College, bloggsjmc. Please do not include capital letters, spaces or any other characters in your file names. 10) File sizes. a) Images from digital cameras or camera phones can be submitted but must have been taken using a camera with a sufficiently high resolution to allow the image to be reproduced at A4 size or above (at 300 ppi). We recommend that you use a camera of 4 mega pixels or more. NB Please ensure that your camera is on its highest-quality setting. 11) Digital adjustments. Digital adjustments, including High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging techniques and the joining together of multiple frames are allowed. The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any image that they feel lacks authenticity due to over-manipulation. The judges will allow more latitude which aims to encourage originality and conceptual thinking. 12) Copies. Please ensure that you keep copies of submitted images. The organisers will take all reasonable steps to ensure the safe storage and back-up of entries, but cannot be held responsible for exceptional circumstances including Acts of God. 13) Judging. All entries will be assessed by a pre-judging panel approved by head judge, Andrew Taaffe, and a shortlist will be announced following the closing date of 22/05/2013. For all those on the shortlist, the school will be contacted by and the nominated schools staff representative will then have 10 days to supply a high-resolution file of each shortlisted entry. Failure to produce a high resolution file of the correct size (see # 10) within the designated time period will eliminate an entrant (learner) from the shortlist. The organisers cannot be held responsible for s that do not arrive due to the entrant s security settings or restrictions placed by their Internet service provider. For all winners the school will be notified by and the prize presentation ceremony will be held at Myerscough College. A list of the winners will be published on the Myerscough College website from July 2013.

3 14) Prizes. The entrant, who creates the entry deemed by the judges to be the single best image, taking into account the theme of the competition and the quality in which this was captured will be the winner of the Myerscough College, School Days photographic competition and will win 1 st place prize. The runners up deemed by the judges to be the single best image if the winner had not been chosen otherwise, taking into account the theme of the competition and the quality in which this was captured will win the runners up prize. The School of the winner will win a photography workshop. This includes the opportunity to bring a group of their learners, a maximum of 10 to a photography workshop at Myerscough College, Bilsborrow. The day will be agreed with Myerscough College and the School but it must be redeemed in Term 3 of the 2013 academic calendar. The day will consist of specialist tutoring by a Myerscough staff member covering aspects of photography, film and digital & creativity, the use of Myerscough resources and facilities for the day. There will be a prize of a photography magazine subscription to the people s choice which will be voted on the day of the Myerscough College Country Fair This will be announced after the day of the country fair and the school will be notified. Only photographs on the shortlist will be included in the people s choice on the day of the Myerscough College Country Fair General Myerscough College reserve the right to change prizes to ones of comparable value if required by unforeseen circumstances. Any such changes will be posted on the competition website. Prizes are not transferable and no cash equivalent will be available for non-cash prizes. The nominated schools staff member has sole responsibility of communicating any information or requests from Myerscough College to the entrants. Only the nominated contact can liaise with the College regarding the entrants of the competition. Myerscough College will not contact entrants individually to provide feedback or enter in to discussion about its decision not to shortlist entries with schools or entrants. Myerscough College reserves the right at any time to cancel, close or change the criteria for the School Days photography competition. 15) Copyright and permissions. By submitting images to School Days, Myerscough College Photography competition each entrant confirms and warrants that: a) they are the sole author of each entry and that it is their original work; b) they own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights of each image; c) they have the permission of those pictured in the image (or, where the image shows any persons

4 under 18, the consent of their parent/guardian) for the usage rights required by Myerscough College in Section 16 and will indemnify Myerscough College against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement; d) they have not licensed or disposed of any rights in the image that would conflict with uses to be made by Myerscough College (see #16 ); and e) they have received any necessary permissions from the owner(s) of buildings included in submitted images for the usage rights required by Myerscough College in #16 and will indemnify Myerscough College against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement. 16) By entering the competition, you grant Myerscough College and its partners and supporters a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, on any media, the images for any purpose. This may include, but is not limited to: a) inclusion in the Myerscough College marketing material print & digital versions; b) display at any exhibitions on Myerscough campus; c) on a secure web browser for judging purposes; d) on the Myerscough College website and on the websites of partners and supporters; e) for use in press releases to be distributed to national, regional & specialist press giving information about or promoting the competition. If an image is short-listed, the photographer will be asked to supply an extended caption for that image. This caption will be subject to the terms # 15a and #16. Entrants also agree that the organisers can sub-license images to the media for reproduction in connection with the competition or Myerscough College s usual business. Images used on merchandise commissioned by the organisers will be discussed individually with the photographer concerned and a separate agreement made. Copyright of each image is retained by its respective photographer. Finalists agree to take part in post-competition publicity. For the purposes of this clause, Myerscough College and the School Days shall be seen as interchangeable terms. For clarity, submitted images may be used to promote the School Days, in addition to Myerscough College. 17) Myerscough College reserves the right to remove any entries from the competition that it feels may breach or contravene laws of public decency or may bring the photographer, the competition, School Days into disrepute. Such entries will be deemed as 18) The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 19) Liability. Myerscough College shall not be liable for any loss, damage or injury incurred as a result of participation in, or other involvement with, the School Days Photography Competition, to the extent allowed by law.

5 Myerscough College accepts no responsibility for entrants or schools breaching any of their home schools policies or procedures whilst participating in the School Days photography competition. 20) By entering the School Days photograph competition you agree to all terms and conditions set out above in this document. You also agree that you have advised all entrants of the terms and conditions and any obligations they have committed to by entering. Data Protection 21) The personal information you provide will be held in a Myerscough College secure storage drive. At times this may be used for Myerscough College marketing purposes. Myerscough College may contact you regarding education services it provides or events it is hosting. Your information will not be passed on to other organisations. If you do not wish to be subscribed to any marketing or promotional material please inform the Myerscough College marketing department by , 22) The information given in these Terms and Conditions is correct, but Myerscough College reserve the right to change any of the above without prior notice. By entering the competition, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Any breach of these Terms by an entrant will void their entry. If a breach has occurred, but is discovered after the award of a prize, then the organisers may request the return of that prize. Safeguarding 23) Myerscough College prides itself on its commitment to safeguarding, student support and welfare. All schools and entrants involved with the School days photography competition agree to Myerscough College s safeguarding policy if they attend any of the campuses. Whilst participating in any activity in relation to the School days photography competition, it is the schools and entrants responsibility to ensure that a policy of the home school for safeguarding has been followed.
