1 &> CU Awards Poland The 10th annual CU Awards Poland opened the Awards season for CU, ta king place in early November at the Interncontinental Hotel in downtown Warsaw. There was a strong show of support from the Polish property community, for whom the event is now an established part of the social calendar. Along with the traditional prizes that have now been handed out, there was also the introduction of new awards, including first of all the new Essa award, which is a recognition of the increasing importance environmental sustainability now plays in the creation of modern real estate. This year, the ESSA Award was given out to two projects: Mokotów Nova, by Ghelamco and Deloitte House, by Skanska Property Poland. In the competition for Best New Office Development, the company that came to the stage to pick up this hotly contested award was Mokotów Nova. Ghelamco is no strangerto the awards, having won several prizes in past years for their office expertise, so it was little surprise when Ghelamco also picked up the Office Developer of the Year prize. The Best Office Refurbishment/ Expansion award, given out this yearfor the first time, was won by Mokotowska Square (Yareal). In one of the toughest categories, meanwhile,the Best New Shopping Center prize was captured by Galeria Kaskada in Szczecin, developed by the German retail giant ECE. However, when it came time to announce the Retail Developer of the year, it was Echo Investments that was called to the stage.the Best Industrial/Logistics Development prize went to another traditional collector of this award, Panattoni Europe, for its project Zelmer- BTS. It wasfitting,thus that the Industrial Developer of the Year prize went to the same company. The remaining prizes, all of which were decided solely by public voting (with no jury input) went to specific Companies and people. First of all were the property Industry Leadership Awards. In the office category, this went to Nicklas Lindberg of Skanska. The Leadership Award in the Retail category went to Piotr Gromniak (Echo Investment) while the Industrial/ Logistics Leadership Award was won for 2011 by Robert Dobrzycki of Panattoni Europe.The Local Real Estate Agency of the Year, a new category, was picked up by Kancelaria Brochocki, while the International Real Estate Agency of the Year prize for 2011 was picked up this year by Cushman & Wakefield. (By its own request, Jones Lang LaSalle was not among the nominated agencies this year). Roberts Publishing Media Group began working with the Orphanage No. 4 in Warsaw last year in a successful charity drive.the orphanage cares for children between the ages of 3 and 18, providing a home to orphans and a safe haven for neglected children whofind themselves in difficult circumstances. While such institutions are state-run, support from the private sector is essential if these children are to have any hope of receiving anything resembling the type of care we would hope to give our own. Donations mean it may be possible to ta ke extra trips, to receive more specialized forms of care such as hippotherapy or music therapy. In short, all donations are put to work to improve the quality of life of these children who have already had such a difficult beginning of life.
