Decision Points Determine what elective courses will be offered The foundation plan serves as a base graduation plan to be combined with either a distinguished level of achievement and/or an endorsement package. The foundation plan alone, as a graduation plan, relates to the old minimum graduation plan. The DLA requires at least one endorsement on top of foundation. DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT FOUNDATION PLAN

Refer to Slide 30 of TEA HB5 Feb 6 th PowerPoint If district chooses to offer only one endorsement plan, the endorsement plan offered must be the multidisciplinary plan. 26 Credits Total for Foundation Plan Including 1 Endorsement Plan

7 Step 3: Ensure DLA Readiness Distinguished level of achievement replaces 1 mathematics credit and 1 science credit from the endorsement plan as follows: 2 credits Replacement Credits Algebra II ADVANCED SCIENCE Keep in Mind: Alternate Routes to DLA: All students who graduate from an Early College HS will graduate as DLA students. Students dual-enrolled in college courses who satisfy the Texas Core Curriculum will also graduate DLA. Distinguished level of achievement (DLA) includes at least 1 endorsement plan bringing the total credits needed to graduate to 26, as pictured below. DISTINGUISHED LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT AT LEAST 1 ENDORSEMENT PLAN: (4 Additional Credits) Performance Acknowledgements: Students can also earn performance acknowledgements on their transcript and diploma for outstanding performance in bilingualism & biliteracy, College AP/IB exams, PSAT, ACT-Plan, ACT, or SAT. Or by earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification. Refer to Slide of TEA HB5 Feb 6 th PowerPoint FOUNDATION PLAN (22 Credits) 26 Credits Total for DLA

8 Step 4: Student Plans / Parent Notifications Collect From Students: Student Endorsement Forms: For all 8 th grade students they must submit in writing the endorsement for which they intend to pursue. They may change their selection at any time. Endorsements should only be offered to students that the district plans on offering. This information must then be submitted to the TEA through PEIMS. Personal Graduation Plans: For all Junior High or Middle School students who do not perform satisfactorily on STAAR assessments a personal graduation plan must be created to identify education goals for the student, include diagnostic and intervention/instructional information, and outline parent involvement. This information must then be submitted to the TEA through PEIMS. Notify Parents of Benefits of Endorsements: Parents must be notified of the potential benefits of students selecting an endorsement. Parent approval is needed should a student should elect to graduate without a selected endorsement. Notify Parents of Benefits of DLA: Parents must be notified of the benefits of graduating on the distinguished level of achievement. Distinguished level of achievement is required to graduate in top 10% and allows students to attend state universities.
