5 ART. 1 - SOGGETTI ISCRITTI Nello Stud Book del purosangue tenuto dall A.S.S.I. sono iscritti i cavalli nati in Italia e/o importati iscritti dalla nascita in uno Stud Book approvato dall International Stud Book Committee (I.S.B.C.) che risultino essere il prodotto di un accoppiamento tra uno stallone p.s.i. e una fattrice p.s.i., entrambi iscritti nello Stud Book Italiano o in quello tenuto dalla paritetica Autorità straniera approvato dall International Stud Book Committee (I.S.B.C.). Non possono essere registrati presso l A.S.S.I. né iscritti nello Stud Book i prodotti nati da inseminazione artificiale o da trasferimento di ovuli ed embrioni o nati tramite manipolazione genetica. Costituiscono condizioni per l iscrizione nello Stud Book Italiano: l accertamento dell identità e della genealogia del cavallo, sia sulla base del rilevamento dei dati segnaletici e sulla base dell esito del test di parentela con i suoi ascendenti dichiarati, disposto nei casi e secondo le modalità stabilite dal successivo art. 3; l effettuazione di tutti gli adempimenti stabiliti dai successivi artt. 4 e 5, disciplinanti, rispettivamente il controllo degli accoppiamenti e la registrazione dei prodotti nati in Italia. ART. 2 - NOZIONE DI ALLEVATORE E allevatore il proprietario o l affittuario della fattrice al momento della nascita del prodotto. ART. 3 - CONTROLLO DEGLI EMOTIPI E/O D.N.A. Non possono essere registrati presso l A.S.S.I. e in nessuno altro Stud Book approvato dall International Stud Book Committee i cavalli nati in Italia per i quali non sia stata accertata la compatibilità con i genitori tramite D.N.A. o emotipo. L A.S.S.I. può controllare in qualunque momento l dentità di un cavallo attraverso il test del D.N.A. o dell emotipo. Se dal test di parentela risulta che un prodotto non può discendere dallo stallone e/o dalla fattrice indicati, lo stesso viene dichiarato dall A.S.S.I. non registrabile e il suo certificato non verrà emesso. Il proprietario e l allevatore del cavallo dichiarato non registrabile possono chiedere che venga effettuato un nuovo test di parentela analizzando nuovi campioni biologici del prodotto e dei genitori; a tale richiesta deve essere allegato, a titolo di deposito, l importo stabilito dall A.S.S.I., che viene incamerato nel caso in cui tale esame confermi che il prodotto non può discendere dallo stallone e/o dalla fattrice dichiarati. Qualora l allevatore o il proprietario di un cavallo rifiuti di farlo sottoporre al prelievo del sangue per il controllo dell emotipo o del D.N.A. e/o del test di parentela, il cavallo viene dichiarato dall A.S.S.I. non registrabile. E fatto obbligo a tutti i proprietari di stalloni funzionanti in Italia di presentare domanda all A.S.S.I., entro il 31 gennaio di ogni anno, per far sottoporre gli stessi al prelievo del sangue per la determinazione dell emotipo e/o del D.N.A., qualora non sia stata già effettuata. In caso di mancata presentazione della domanda (nella quale deve essere indicato il luogo di permanenza del cavallo) non verranno emessi i certificati di origine dei prodotti nati da tali stalloni. 6 ART. 4 - CONTROLLO ACCOPPIAMENTI Ogni stallone p.s.i., al momento dell accoppiamento, deve essere provvisto dell attestato di approvazione per la monta rilasciato dalla Commissione Nazionale Approvazione Stalloni di Pregio istituita presso il Ministero delle Politiche Agricole e Forestali, in conformità della legge 15 gennaio l991 n. 30 e successivo D.M. 04 febbraio 1999 n E fatto obbligo ai gestori delle stazioni di fecondazione di comunicare all A.S.S.I. ogni 30 giorni l elenco delle fattrici coperte dagli stalloni di p.s.i. con l indicazione delle date dei singoli salti. I gestori delle stazioni di fecondazione sono responsabili dell identificazione delle fattrici che vengono presentate agli stalloni. A tal fine, le stesse devono essere accompagnate dal loro libretto segnaletico, nel quale devono essere annotate, a cura dei veterinari che le eseguono, le vaccinazioni e le misure profilattiche cui sono sottoposte; nel caso in cui la fattrice giunga alla stazione di monta sprovvista del libretto segnaletico, la stessa potrà essere coperta, salvi i controlli dell Agenzia, previa identificazione da parte di un veterinario che dovrà riportare i dati segnaletici in un certificato veterinario in forma descrittiva e grafica, da allegare alla dichiarazione mensile. I gestori delle stazioni di fecondazione devono redigere e sottoscrivere i certificati degli interventi fecondativi e consegnarli al proprietario o affittuario della fattrice. Qualora una fattrice venga coperta da più stalloni, devono essere rilasciati i certificati di ogni accoppiamento. ART. 5 - REGISTRAZIONE DEI PRODOTTI NATI IN ITALIA A) L allevatore deve comunicare la nascita del puledro all A.S.S.I. entro 7 giorni dall evento. Nella comunicazione/domanda di registrazione del prodotto devono essere indicati: a) la data di nascita; b) il nome del padre e della madre; c) il sesso; d) il mantello; e) il luogo ove si trova il soggetto; f) lista dei nomi da attribuire al prodotto (indicandone in ordine preferenziale più di uno); g) dichiarazione di destinazione finale. B) Entro 30 gg. dalla nascita del foal l allevatore deve inoltrare all A.S.S.I.: 1) Certificato di intervento fecondativo (C.I.F.) Nel caso in cui la fattrice sia stata coperta all estero deve essere trasmesso il certificato di intervento fecondativo previsto dalla normativa vigente nel Paese dove è avvenuto l accoppiamento. 2) attestato di versamento del diritto di segreteria, stabilito dall A.S.S.I., sul conto corrente postale intestato all Agenzia. Qualora il certificato di intervento fecondativo in orignale, sia inoltrato all A.S.S.I. oltre il termine di 30 giorni dalla nascita del foal ma entro il 31 dicembre dell anno di nascita il diritto di segreteria dovuto è pari al triplo di quello stabilito dall A.S.S.I. L Agenzia, acquisito il verbale di identificazione del prodotto, redatto da un medico veterinario incaricato dall A.S.S.I. su apposito modulo predisposto dall Agenzia, accertati l adempimento di quanto sopra e l origine di p.s.i. del prodotto, ne dispone la registrazione nello Stud Book del p.s.i. Nel caso in cui uno degli ascendenti del cavallo non fosse iscritto nello Stud Book del p.s.i., ma nel libro ad esso annesso, anch esso verrà registrato nel libro annesso allo Stud Book del p.s.i. Sono iscritti nello Stud Book soltanto i prodotti i cui ascendenti risultino iscritti in Stud Book approvati dall International Stud Book Committee. VI

7 In nessun caso l A.S.S.I. può accettare in deposito attestazioni sostitutive di un certificato di origine di puledri le cui madri non siano state coperte da riproduttori maschi debitamente approvati alla monta ai sensi della legge n. 30 del 15 gennaio 1991 e del Decreto del Ministero delle Politiche Agricole e Forestali n febbraio 1999 e funzionanti in stazioni di monta autorizzate dalle competenti Autorità. Se al momento della presentazione della comunicazione di nascita venisse rilevata una durata di gestazione anormale e cioè inferiore a 300 giorni o superiore a 380 giorni, l A.S.S.I. ordina una inchiesta prima di procedere alla registrazione del prodotto. L Agenzia ha facoltà di far controllare in qualunque momento, nel modo che riterrà più opportuno, l identità degli stalloni, delle fattrici e dei puledri. ART. 6 - REGISTRAZIONE CAVALLO IMPORTATO I) CAVALLI IMPORTATI DEFINITIVAMENTE O IMPORTATI TEMPORANEAMENTE Ai fini della registrazione di cavalli nati all estero, o nati in Italia precedentemente esportati definitivamente, sia in caso di importazione definitiva che temporanea di durata prevista superiore a nove mesi, deve essere depositata presso gli uffici dell Agenzia entro 60 giorni dall importazione la seguente documentazione: 1) domanda di registrazione compilata in tutte le sue parti sottoscritta dal proprietario, all atto dell importazione, o dallo spedizioniere da lui incaricato,corredata se necessario, dalla richiesta del nome; 2) libretto segnaletico regolarmente vistato; qualora i dati riportati sul libretto segnaletico e sul certificato di esportazione siano scritti in lingua diversa da quella francese o inglese, dovrà essere prodotta traduzione giurata degli stessi; 3) copia della bolla doganale di importazione o altro documento equipollente, attestante l entrata in Italia; 4) copia della documentazione sanitaria, rilasciata dall Autorità competente, attestante l importazione del cavallo in Italia dal Paese di provenienza; 5) certificato veterinario redatto da un medico veterinario, sul quale dovranno essere riportati i dati segnaletici del cavallo al momento dell importazione, sia in parte grafica che descrittiva; tale certificazione dovrà riportare anche il numero di microchip o dell eventuale dichiarazione della non rilevabilità dello stesso; 6) certificato attestante le performances del cavallo nella sua carriera di corse rilasciato dall Ente ippico dell ultimo Paese in cui è allenato; 7) attestato di versamento del diritto di segreteria stabilito dal Consiglio di Amministrazione sul conto corrente postale dell Agenzia. Tuttavia, la registrazione potrà aver luogo solo a seguito di acquisizione del certificato di esportazione emesso dall Ente paritetico estero, a seguito di richiesta inoltrata dal proprietario o dallo spedizioniere incaricato dallo stesso. Sono comunque registrati ed iscritti nello Stud Book soltanto i prodotti importati i cui ascendenti risultino iscritti in Stud Book approvati dall International Stud Book Committee. Qualora la documentazione prevista dal primo comma sia depositata oltre il termine di 60 gg. e comunque entro 120 gg. dalla data di importazione, il diritto di segreteria VII

8 è triplicato; oltre 120 gg. e fino a 180 giorni dalla data di importazione il diritto è quintuplicato. Oltre i 180 giorni è decuplicato. II) IMPORTAZIONE TEMPORANEA PER ATTIVITA RIPRODUTTIVA Per la registrazione ed iscrizione nello Stud Book di riproduttori temporaneamente importati in Italia non è richiesta l acquisizione del certificato di esportazione, ma deve essere depositata presso gli uffici dell Agenzia entro 60 giorni dall importazione la seguente documentazione: 1) copia del libretto segnaletico; 2) nulla osta per attività riproduttiva (cosiddetto BCN) o passaporto vistato, rilasciato dall autorità ippica del Paese di provenienza del soggetto; 3) certificato veterinario attestante i dati segnaletici del riproduttore, all atto dell importazione, redatto da un medico veterinario italiano, sia nella parte grafica che nella parte descrittiva sul modulo predisposto dall Agenzia; tale certificazione dovrà essere comprensiva anche della lettura del microchip o dell eventuale dichiarazine della non rilevabilità dello stesso; 4) attestato del versamento del diritto di segreteria ordinario previsto al n. 7 del capo I del presente articolo; 5) domanda di registrazione compilata in tutte le sue parti e sottoscritta dal proprietario, al momento dell importazione, o dallo spedizioniere da lui incaricato; 6) copia della bolla doganale di importazione o altro documento equipollente, attestante l entrata in Italia del riproduttore; 7) copia della documentazione sanitaria, rilasciata dall Autorità competente, attestante l importazione del cavallo in Italia dal Paese di provenienza. Qualora la documentazione prevista dal precedente comma fosse depositata oltre il termine di 60 gg. e comunque entro 120 gg. dalla data di importazione, il diritto di segreteria è triplicato; oltre 120 gg. e fino a 180 giorni dalla data di importazione il diritto è quintuplicato, oltre i 180 giorni è decuplicato. La validità del visto di esportazione è di nove mesi. Entro tale scadenza, prima del ritorno nel paese di provenienza, il libretto segnaletico deve essere trasmesso all A.S.S.I. per l apposizione del visto, secondo le modalità e gli adempimenti di cui all art. 111 capo I del Regolamento. Scaduto il termine di validità, indicato al comma precedente, del visto all esportazione temporanea, apposto dall Autorità del Paese di provenienza, se il riproduttore rimane in Italia ulteriormente, a cura del proprietario dovrà procedersi alla trasformazione da temporanea a definitiva importazione. ART. 7 - LIBRETTO SEGNALETICO Il libretto segnaletico dei cavalli nati in Italia viene compilato dall A.S.S.I. nelle sue parti descrittive e messo a disposizione del proprietario del cavallo il quale deve far controllare l esattezza dei dati segnaletici in esso riportati da un veterinario, che deve provvedere a riportare i dati stessi nel grafico facente parte del libretto. Il libretto segnaletico deve accompagnare tutti i movimenti del cavallo sia in Italia che all estero. In esso devono essere indicate, da medici veterinari autorizzati dall A.S.S.I. o da una competente Autorità, le vaccinazioni e le misure profilattiche alle quali i cavalli siano sottoposti, con apposizione della fustella del prodotto usato, annullata con l indicazione leggibile della data di somministrazione; gli stessi medici veterinari VIII

9 devono, inoltre, riportare nell apposito spazio, il motivo del vaccino, la data e il luogo della vaccinazione e il loro timbro e apporre la loro firma. ART. 8 - NOMI A) NOME DEL CAVALLO NATO IN ITALIA Un cavallo non può partecipare a corse o essere messo in razza (risprodursi) se prima non gli sia stato imposto un nome. Per i cavalli nati in Italia il nome deve essere imposto all atto della registrazione. La registrazione di un cavallo senza nome è consentita. Qualora un cavallo fosse stato registrato senza nome l allevatore od il nuovo proprietario del cavallo, deve richiedere all Agenzia l assegnazione del nome ENTRO IL 31 DICEMBRE DELL ANNO SUCCESSIVO A QUELLO DI NASCITA, inoltrando, oltre al modulo previsto, anche l attestato del versamento dello specifico diritto di segreteria, fissato dal Consiglio di Amministrazione dell Agenzia. Qualora tale richiesta sia presentata DOPO IL 31 DICEMBRE DELL ANNO SUCCESSIVO A QUELLO DI NASCITA E COMUNQUE PRIMA DELL ISCRIZIONE DEL CAVALLO AD UNA CORSA, tale diritto di segreteria è raddoppiato. Non si può imporre ad un cavallo il nome di un altro cavallo se non dopo 5 anni dal suo decesso; qualora tale evento non sia stato comunicato il termine è elevato a 20 anni dalla nascita. Unica eccezione può essere fatta nel caso in cui il nome da assegnare è già appartenuto ad un cavallo deceduto che non abbia mai corso, purché la richiesta del nome sia effettuata dallo stesso allevatore/proprietario. Il termine è elevato a 15 anni dopo la morte per nomi che siano già appartenuti a stalloni in razza in Italia e a 10 anni dopo la morte per nomi che siano già appartenuti a fattrici, in razza in Italia. Nel caso in cui il decesso non sia stato comunicato, il nome è disponibile dopo 35 anni dalla nascita se appartenuto ad uno stallone, dopo 25 anni se appartenuto ad una fattrice. Inoltre, non possono essere attribuiti nomi: 1) che figurano nella Lista Internazionale dei Nomi Protetti; 2) che sono composti da più di 18 lettere comprese linee e spazi; 3) che appartengono a personalità, salva autorizzazione scritta degli interessati o dei loro discendenti; 4) che sono seguiti da cifre; 5) composti o che includono iniziali, cifre, trattini, punti, virgole, segni, punti esclamativi, parentesi, segni di frazione, due punti, punto e virgola; 6) che suggeriscono e hanno un significato volgare, osceno o ingiurioso, considerati di cattivo gusto, che possono offendere dei gruppi religiosi, politici o etnici; 7) identici o somiglianti, per ortografia o pronuncia, ad altri nomi protetti o già registrati appartenenti ad un cavallo con meno di 10 anni di differenza di età; 8) che inizino con altro segno diverso da una lettera; 9) che sono già registrati per un fratello o un genitore del cavallo per il quale si richiede il nome. L A.S.S.I. può non consentire la registrazione di un nome ove motivi di particolare rilievo lo rendano necessario o anche solo opportuno. IX

10 B) NOME DEL CAVALLO NATO ALL ESTERO E IMPORTATO I cavalli nati all estero e importati in Italia conservano il nome loro assegnato dall Ente del Paese di nascita. Il nome deve essere sempre seguito dalla sigla del paese di nascita. Se all atto dell importazione il cavallo è senza nome, il suo proprietario deve richiedere, tramite l A.S.S.I., all Ente paritetico del Paese di origine del cavallo, il benestare su un elenco di nomi da lui indicati. C) CAMBIO DEL NOME E consentito il cambio del nome di un cavallo nato in Italia che non abbia mai corso o non si sia mai riprodotto, su richiesta scritta dell allevatore o del proprietario, accompagnata dal relativo diritto di segreteria. Tale diritto non è dovuto quando il cambio sia richiesto dall Agenzia. X

11 ARTICLE 1 - REGISTERED HORSES In the Thoroughbred Stud Book kept by A.S.S.I. are included horses foaled in Italy or imported, registered from birth in a Stud Book approved by International Stud Book Committee (I.S.B.C.) which are the progeny of a mating between a thoroughbred stallion and a thoroughbred mare, both registered in Italian Stud Book or in Stud Book approved by I.S.B.C.. Horses which have been conceived or are born by artificial insemination or embryo or ovule transfer or genetic manipulation cannot be registered with A.S.S.I. nor be included in Italian Stud Book. The following are considered as conditions for entry in the Italian Stud Book: - ascertainment of the animal's identity and genealogy either on the basis of its distinctive marks and on the basis of the results of the parentage testing with its stated sire and dam, when this is directed in the circumstances and following the procedures set out in Art. 3 below; - fulfilment of all the procedures set out in articles 4 & 5 below which rule respectively the control of mating and the registration of stud book certificates of foals born in Italy. ARTICLE 2 - DEFINITION OF BREEDER Breeder is the owner or the leaseholder of the dam when the foal is dropped. ARTICLE 3 - CONTROL OF BLOOD/DNA TYPES No foals which have not been Blood or D.N.A. parentage tested can be accepted for registration with A.S.S.I. and in any other Stud Book approved by Internationa Stud Book Committee. The blood-type or D.N.A. profile of a horse foaled in Italy or abroad constitutes an element of its identification and A.S.S.I. may direct enquiries based on comparison tests of bloodtypes or D.N.A. profiles. If parentage testing shows that a foal is excluded to be the progeny of either the sire and/or the dam stated, this foal is pronounced as Unregistered by A.S.S.I. and its certificate is not issued. The owner and breeder of a horse which is regarded as Unregistered can ask to repeat the parentage testing; they must add to this request, as a deposit, a sum fixed by A.S.S.I. which will be cashed if this test evidences that the foal is excluded to be the progeny either of the sire and/or the dam stated. If the breeder or the owner of a horse refuses that a blood sample is taken for the purpose of typing, that horse is pronounced as Unregistered by A.S.S.I. All proprietors of a stallion at stud in Italy must apply to A.S.S.I. by 31st January of each year to ask for taking blood samples for determining the bloodtype and/or D.N.A. in case this had not been already directed by this body. If this application is not received (on which shall appear the stud where the horse is kept) the stud book certificates of the foals by that stallion will not be issued. ARTICLE 4 CONTROL OF MATINGS XI

12 Every thoroughbred stallion at the time of covering must be provided with the declaration of approval for covering released by the National Committee for Approval of Good Quality Stallions appointed by the "Ministero delle Politiche Agricole e Forestali" according to the Law n 30 of 15 January 1991 and further Decree of the Ministry n of 4 February 1999 Stud farm managers must communicate to A.S.S.I. every 30 days the list of mares which were covered by thoroughbred stallions, showing the dates of each service. Stud farm managers are responsible for identification of the mares which go to stallions. For this purpose, the mares should be accompanied by their passport in which are reported vaccinations and medical treatments by the veterinarians who did the administration; if a mare arrives at a stud farm without her passport, she may be covered, provided that identification is made by a veterinarian who will report her written and diagrammatical description to be attached to the monthly return as mentioned in second paragraph above. Stud farm managers must fill in and sign the covering certificates and deliver them to the owner or leaseholder of the mare. In case the mare was covered by more than one stallion, certificates of each mating must be released. ARTICLE 5 - REGISTRATION OF FOALS BORN IN ITALY A) Breeders shall give notice of a foaling to A.S.S.I. within 7 days from the foaling. The foaling declaration/foal s registration shall include: a) the date of birth; b) the names of the sire and the dam; c) the sex; d) the coat colour; e) the location where the foal is kept; f)the naming list for the foal in order of preference; g) the declaration if the equine animal is or not intended for slaughter for human consumption. B) Within 30 days from the foaling, the breeder shall apply to A.S.S.I. for the foal's registration: 1) Covering Certificate.In the case the mare has been covered in another country, it is required the Covering Certificate as issued by the foreign Stud Book authority of that country. 2) the receipt of payment of the fee defined by A.S.S.I.., made on the postal account of A.S.S.I. After 30 days from the date of birth and up to the 31 st December of the year of birth, the fee will be tripled. A.S.S.I. will include the horse in the Italian Stud Book once it receives the Identification Certificate compiled by a nominated Veterinary Surgeon on the appropriate form and it has ascertained the thoroughbred origin of the produce and if the above procedures have been followed. If one of the ascendants of a horse is not registered in the Thoroughbred Stud Book but in the Appendix, this one will be registered in the Appendix to the Thoroughbred Stud Book as well. In the Stud Book are registered only the foals whose ascendants are registered in the Stud Books approved by the International Stud Book Committee. In no circumstance, A.S.S.I. may accept a substitutive statement of a stud book certificate for a horse foaled by a mare which was not covered by a stallion approved for covering as set in the Law n 30 of 15 January 1991 and in the Ministerial Decree n of 4 February 1999 being at service in a stud farm authorized in compliance with this Rule. 13 If A.S.S.I. at the time of registration, notices that the period of gestation appears abnormal, that is less than 300 days or more than 380 days, they will order an enquiry before registration. A.S.S.I. may direct at any time and in the way it might consider as appropriate, the control of identity of stallions, mares and foals. ARTICLE 6 - REGISTRATION OF IMPORTED HORSES I) PERMANENT OR TEMPORARY IMPORTATION For the purpose of registering horses foaled abroad or born in Italy which had been exported permanently and were re-imported in this country, either on a temporary or permanent basis for a period exceeding nine months, it is necessary to produce within 60 days of the date of import the following papers: 1) the application of registration filled in all its sections and signed by the owner or his shipping agent with the request of naming if the horse is unnamed; 2) the passport duly endorsed; if the markings on both the passport and export certificate are reported in another language than English or French, an official translation is required; 3) copy of the Custom's bill for importation or similar paper declaring the entrance in Italy; 4) copy of the sanitary papers issued by the authority concerned attesting the import of the horse in Italy from the country of provenance; 5) the veterinary certificate compiled by a veterinary surgeon at the time of the import showing the diagram and descriptive markings; this certificate should mention the microchip number or declare that this was unreadable; 6) the recorded results of the racing career of the horse issued by the racing Authority of the last country of training; 7) the report of payment of the fee for registration fixed by A.S.S.I., made on the postal account of A.S.S.I. However, the registration can be made only after the foreign Stud Book Authority has issued the Export Certificate following the application sent by the owner or his shipping agent. As for horses imported from countries not members of the European Economic Community, in addition shall be produced a copy of the sanitary papers set by the national laws. In the Stud Book are registered only the imported foals whose ascendants are registered in the Stud Book approved by the International Stud Book Committee. If the papers as set in the first paragraph are produced between 60 and 120 days from the date of import, the fee for registration will be three times as much; between 120 and 180 days, the fee for registration will be five times as much and after 180 days it will be ten times as much. II) TEMPORARILY IMPORTATION FOR BREEDING For the breeding animals imported temporarily in Italy, the export certificate is not required as they can be registered and included in the Stud Book on the following documents, received within 60 days from importation: 1) copy of the passport; XIII

14 2) Breeding clearance notification (BCN) or passport endorsed issued by the horse authority of the country of provenance; 3) the markings certificate taken by an Italian Veterinary Surgeon at the time of import, compiled in the diagram and descriptive sections on the form supplied by A.S.S.I.; the microchip number must be mentioned as well or state that this could not be detected; 4) the report of payment of the ordinary fee as fixed by A.S.S.I.; 5) the application form filled in and signed by the owner or by the shipping agent; 6) copy of the customs bill or similar document which attests the entrance of the breeding animal in Italy; 7) copy of the sanitary papers issued by the authority concerned in respect of the importation of the horse in Italy from the country of provenance. In case of delayed application, penalty fees will be applied: tripled payment from 60 to 120 days, quintupled payment from 120 to 180 days, decupled payment if the application is received 180 days after. The validity of the export endorsement is for a period up to nine months. Within this date and before the breeding animal returns to its country, the passport must be endorsed by A.S.S.I., following the procedures and requirements of art. 111, paragraph I of the Rules of Unire. When the visa expires and if the animal remains in Italy, the owner must apply for a permanent import. ARTICLE 7 - PASSPORT BOOKS The passport of horses foaled in Italy is compiled by A.S.S.I. in its descriptive section and consigned to the owner of the horse who charges a Veterinary Surgeon to check and report the distinctive markings on the diagram. The passport should accompany the horse in all his movements in Italy and outside Italy. In it must be shown by a veterinary surgeon authorized by A.S.S.I. or by an appropriate authority, the vaccinations and medical treatments given to the horse, impressing the tag clearly annulled with the date of the administration of the product used; the Veterinary Surgeon must also report in the special blank space what is the vaccination for, the date and place of this vaccination and put his stamp and signature. ARTICLE 8 NAMES A) NAME OF HORSES FOALED IN ITALY A horse is not allowed to run or to breed if it has not been named. As regards horses foaled in Italy, a name must be attributed at the time of registration. A horse can be registered unnamed. In this case, the breeder or the new owner must apply for naming the horse by 31st December of its second year and send the application form as well as the report of payment of the fee as fixed by the Board. If a late application is received after its second year but before a horse has ever run, the fee is doubled. XIV

15 A registered name can be reused in the case of all horses 5 years after their death or at 20 years of age. An exception may be made where the name of a horse which has been reported as dead and has not raced is sought for re-use by the same applicant. In the case of stallions which were at stud in Italy, the limit is raised to 15 years after their death or at 35 years of age. In the case of broodmares which bred in Italy, the limit is raised to 10 years after death or at 25 years of age. Names cannot be accepted if they are already registered subject to the conditions on re-use of names set out above, nor if: 1) they appear on the International List of Protected Names; 2) they have more than eighteen characters, included signs or spaces; 3) they are the name of a public person, without that person's or their family's permission; 4) they are followed by numbers; 5) they are made up entirely of or include initials, figures, hyphens, full stops, commas, signs, exclamation marks, inverted commas, forward or back slash, colon and semi-colon; 6) they are suggestive or have a vulgar, obscene or insulting meaning; names considered in poor taste; or names that may be offensive to religious, political or ethnic groups; 7) in spelling they are identical to and in pronunciation, identical or similar to a protected name or a name registered for a horse whose year of foaling is within ten years of that of the horse in question; 8) they start with a sign other than a letter; 9) they are already registered to a sibling or parent of the horse in question A.S.S.I. may refuse to accept the registration of a name if for important reasons this deemed necessary or appropriate. B) NAME OF HORSES FOALED ABROAD WHICH HAVE BEEN IMPORTED Horses foaled abroad which have been imported in Italy maintain their name as assigned by the authority of the country of foaling. The name must always be followed by the suffix of the country of birth. If a horse has been imported unnamed, his owner must request, through A.S.S.I., the Authority of the country of foaling to approve a name among a selection of names proposed by the owner. C) CHANGE OF NAME The change of name of a horse foaled in Italy is possible when the horse is still unraced or unbred and the application in writing from the Breeder or the Owner and the payment of a fee are received. The fee is not due when the change of name is ordered by this Body. XV
