1 The Curry Courier Lots of Important Events Edition There are many exciting things going on at Iles School over the course of the next few weeks. Instead of the usual format, here are the upcoming events in the order in which they occur... Parent Teacher Conferences I look forward to our meeting on Thursday or Friday. Each conference will last approximately 30 minutes. Please be considerate of other families and do your best to arrive at our scheduled time. I will try my very best to keep everyone on schedule. I do realize that many parents have more than one conference to attend. Thank you for being a partner with me in your child s education. Red Ribbon Week (From Mrs. Frachey) Red Ribbon Week Iles School will celebrate Red Ribbon Week during the week of October 24th by participating in kooky, fun theme days! Students who are able to are asked to bring a dollar a day to participate, but we will not leave anyone out who forgets or can not bring the dollars. This fundraiser is for United Way and Free the Children. Children who can not bring dollars may bring any amount, or perform random acts of kindness. Please send the money in an envelope with your child's name, the amount, teacher, and RRW. All Student Support Lessons will deal with tobacco and alcohol prevention education.
2 Monday, October Crazy Hat Day...Put a Cap on Drugs and Poverty! Tuesday, October Cool Shades Day...Shade Out Drugs and Poverty! Wednesday, October Backwards Day...Turn Your Back on Drugs! Thursday, October 27...Pajama Day...Dreaming of a Peaceful, Drug Free World! Friday, October 28...Crazy Sock Day...Sock Hop... Sock It to Drugs and Poverty! On Friday, there will be an optional Sock Hop (dance) in the gym during lunch recess. Students who do not wish to attend may go to lunch recess as usual. Thank you, Mrs. Frachey Lincoln Memorial Garden Field Trip In today s folder you will find a permission slip for our November 3rd trip to Lincoln Memorial Garden. The purpose of the trip is to investigate structures in their natural environment (animal homes). Please return the permission slip ASAP and include the $2.00 student fee. Students, teachers, and chaperones will leave Iles School at 9:15 and return in time for lunch at 11:30. Interested in being a chaperone? Please read and return the attached sign-up page. Iles Celebrates!! Come one, come all...to Iles Celebrates, a multi-cultural event. This year our annual celebration will take place in the Springfield High School commons on Saturday, November 19th from 5:00-8:00. Please join us as we celebrate Iles diversity with food from all over the world, crafts, games and entertainment. There will also be a live and silent auction consisting of donated items, student created masterpieces, and teacher baskets. Although Mr. Curry will not be taking a pie in the face this year, he has a great auction item up for bid. Please stop by to find out what this might be! Please return RSVP along with admission payment as soon as possible. Although, tickets may be purchased at the door as well.
3 Halloween Parade The excitement is building as we near Halloween. Remember, students may bring their costumes to school on Monday, October 31st. Students will be allowed 10 minutes to get changed for the parade which will begin at 1:45. Please no make-up, bloody masks, etc.. Parents will have the best view for pictures around the playground fence. Feel free to join our class for the party in room 114 immediately afterward.
4 Lincoln Memorial Garden Chaperone Sign-up Each first grade teacher would love 4 enthusiastic parents to attend the field trip on Thursday, November 3rd. Although volunteers from Lincoln Memorial Garden will be leading our hikes, a few extra eyes, hands, and ears are always welcome! Here are the details: Please be at Iles School by 9:00. Please be excited to ride a smelly yellow school bus. Please be willing to supervise 4-5 students. Please be willing to bring a camera and take pictures. If the above sounds like something you would like to do, please fill out the bottom portion and return to school. I will choose the first 4 forms I receive and will contact you ASAP. Thanks for your willingness to make this a great trip! Name Student s Name Best Way to Contact You
