1 MLA Works Cited Format and Examples MLA Citation Notes: Works cited should be listed in alphabetical order based on the first letter of each citation. If the citation is longer than one line, all lines after the first should be indented (this is called a hanging indent). Citations are double-spaced. When citing a source, if you don t find the needed information, simply skip it. For example, if a webpage doesn t have an author, simply start with the title. Dates are listed in a European style: Example 22 Mar Parenthetical notations in your paper list the author s last name and page number the information appears on. For example: (Mills 195) or according to Mills, direct quote here (195). For more details on the citation styles, refer to the MLA Handbook 6 th edition.
