This has required the creation of rules to regulate domain names and other cyberspace developments. This session will discuss: a broad overview of domain name disputes and other types of internet disputes; the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP); and the.au Dispute Resolution Policy (audrp). 6 PRESENTERS PROFILE Business and Property Law Presenters The Honourable Justice Stephen Robb Justice Stephen Robb was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of NSW on 20 June Prior to this appointment, Justice Robb had been a barrister for more than 35 years, practising in a wide spectrum of commercial litigation and appearing in many cases of significant complexity. His areas of expertise include appellate law, equity, corporations, banking, building and construction, insurance, insolvency and professional negligence. David Bannerman, Principal, Bannermans Lawyers David is the principal of Bannermans Lawyers, Strata Law firm, providing specialised legal services for the Strata industry, the Development industry, the Construction industry and the Insurance industry. David is an Accredited Property Law Specialist with the Law Society of New South Wales and has over 14 years extensive experience in all aspects of property law and building litigation. For the past 7 years he has specialised exclusively in the strata industry. David has a keen interest in education and training and is the Director of the strata services chapter for the Strata Community Australia, New South Wales peak strata organisation. He demonstrates his commitment by regularly presenting education seminars to lawyers, experts, certifiers and strata managers. His experience of the industry and in the courts enables him to identify and provide training on current strata issues and changes in the law in a practical and helpful way to both lawyers and strata managers. Chris Bland, Principal, Legal Tradecraft Consulting Chris is an experienced in-house lawyer and management executive with over 28 years of legal and business experience as a property, projects and commercial transactions lawyer in the UK, Europe, Asia and Australia. He was at Transfield Holdings for 21 years, where he led Transfield s in-house legal team as General Counsel between During that time, he negotiated and implemented commercial, investment and development deals, projects and transactions involving Transfield Services Limited, Charter Hall Limited, ADI Limited, Sydney Harbour Tunnel, Perisher Blue Ski Fields and Novatec Star. Chris also led infrastructure project development transactions including the $650m Walsh Bay re-development project. He continues to undertake in-house legal project development work as a legal consultant for the student accommodation Campus Living Villages. Tony Cahill, Legal Author and Legal Commentator Tony Cahill was admitted to practice in After 13 years with a medium-sized city law firm, Tony commenced practice on his own account at Chatswood. In July 2002, Tony commenced a sabbatical from private practice to concentrate primarily on legal education and writing. He is a member of the Law Society s Property Law and Environmental, Planning and Development Committees. He was a co-author with Russell Cocks and Paul Gibney of the first NSW edition of 1001 Conveyancing Answers, and is currently the coauthor with Gary Newton of Conveyancing Service New South Wales and Annotated Conveyancing and Real Property Legislation New South Wales, both published by LexisNexis Butterworths. Tony is a part-time lecturer at the Sydney and Northern Sydney Institutes of TAFE in various law subjects. Jonathan Caplan, Partner, Arnold Bloch Leibler Jonathan Caplan is the lead partner of Arnold Bloch Leibler s Sydney property & development practice. Clint Harding, Partner, Arnold Bloch Leibler Clint Harding practises in the taxation department of Arnold Bloch Leibler. He has particular expertise in corporate and international tax, the taxation of financial instruments and transactions, and the management of tax audits and disputes with the Australian Tax Office. His clients have included both public and private organisations, particularly in the corporate and banking sectors. He is also an experienced tax practitioner in both United Kingdom and New Zealand tax law, having spent time at major law firms in both London and Auckland. Clint holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws from Auckland University and was admitted to practice in He has also completed a Masters of Taxation at the University of Sydney. Dr WILLIAM Higgs, Barrister -at-law, Elizabeth Street Chambers Dr William Higgs is a barrister at the Sydney Bar. Prior to being called to the Bar, Will was a Senior Associate in the banking and finance practice of the London and Hong Kong offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP. Before joining Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Will was an associate in the structured finance team of Mallesons Stephen Jacques in Sydney, Australia. Will has broad finance and debt capital markets experience, having been involved in drafting and negotiating bond issuance documentation for lead managers and issuers including convertible bonds, covered bonds, medium term note programmes, securitisation (including commercial mortgage-backed transactions (CMBS) and residential mortgage-backed transactions, CDO and CLOs), general debt capital markets, syndicated lending, prime brokerage, global custody arrangements, ISDA terminology, swaps, derivatives and aircraft financing transactions. Will advised the Bank of England on various issues arising during the financial crisis including in relation to the Special Liquidity Scheme, the Discount Window and the Asset Purchase Facility and other repo programmes. Kevin Munro, Principal, Munro Lawyers Kevin Munro is the principal of Munro Lawyers. He has over 30 years of experience in the tax advisory field. Kevin is active in professional education and gives lectures and workshops for organisations including the Taxation Institute of Australia, the CLE Centre, the Law Society of New South Wales, the College of Law, Certified Practising Accountants, and the National Tax and Accountants Association. He was a member of the inaugural NSW Law Society s Advisory Committee for Small Business Accreditation. Kevin is a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). 7 Dr Michael Nancarrow, Senior Lecturer, CQUniversity Michael is presently a Senior Lecturer in Law at CQUniversity, Sydney, and has been admitted as a Solicitor and Barrister in both New South Wales and Victoria. He was previously an Ethics Consultant at St. James Ethics Centre, and is now a private practice Ethics and Legal Consultant focussing on ethical and legal education, awareness and learning strategies for public sector, finance and emergency service organisations. His clients include the Australian Taxation Office, the NSW Parliamentary Counsel and the NSW Legal Aid Office. Michael is also a published author on various conference papers, journal articles in the Business and Professional Ethics Journal and Handbook of Research on Teaching Ethics in Business and Management Education. Gary Newton, Partner, CBP Lawyers Gary Newton was admitted as a solicitor in NSW in 1983 and is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of NSW, Federal Court and High Court of Australia. Gary has been an Accredited Specialist in Property Law since In 2002, Gary joined CBP Lawyers as a partner in the property and development team, with expertise in conveyancing, commercial and retail leasing and real estate subdivisions and developments. He provides a wide range of property related advice to business, government and individuals. Gary is co-author and co-editor of a new book titled Annotated Conveyancing of Real Property Legislation in NSW (2013 Edition). Gary is also the co-author of LexisNexis Butterworth s NSW Conveyancing Service. He has authored other books on land law as well as numerous articles. He has been a keynote speaker and chairman at various property law master classes. Jillian Osborne (Chair), Principal, Jillian Osborne Lawyer and Senior Lecturer, College of Law and Chair, Specialist Accreditation Property Law Advisory Committee Jillian Osborne, Accredited Specialist in Property Law and current Chair of NSW Law Society Specialist Accreditation Property Law Advisory committee, had over 20 years practical experience in private practice including large, medium and small firms prior to joining The College of Law as a lecturer. Jillian practised mainly as a commercial and property lawyer, for major Australian franchisors and developers. Jillian now practises as a sole practitioner in general practice and appears for her clients as an advocate. Jillian has presented seminars and written practice papers on Property Law. She holds a Master of Environmental Law from the University of Sydney. Nikki Robinson, Partner, Clayton Utz Lawyers Nikki Robinson was admitted to practice in Victoria in 1998 and in England and Wales in Nikki spent five years in London where she worked for a magic circle law firm and a US firm in their projects divisions. During this time she gained experience in working in areas such as social infrastructure, defence contracting, project finance and electricity and power across and within a number of different jurisdictions including France, Germany, Ireland, US, Greece and India. Nikki was admitted to practice in New South Wales in She is currently a Partner in Corporate / M&A group at Clayton Utz, specialising in infrastructure development, private treaty M &A and commercial and property law. As an expert in the legal issues arising in infrastructure developments, Nikki advises private and public sector clients on all aspects of infrastructure transactions, from drafting and negotiating complex development rights for small and large scale projects to advising equity participants in the PPP market. Peter Rosier, Principal, Rosier Partners Lawyers Peter was admitted to practice on in He is an Accredited Specialist in property law since 1996, and has served for many years on the Property Law Committee of the Law Society of NSW and a member of the Property Law Advisory Committee at the Society. Peter is currently a member of the NECS Sub-committee of the Property Law Committee. He is the author of the Lexis/Nexis publication An Introduction to National Electronic Conveyancing and is the Consultant Editor of the Lexis/Nexis NSW Conveyancing Precedents. Dr Alpana Roy, Consultant Dr Alpana Roy is an expert in intellectual property law, with a particular focus on trademarks and copyright. She has several years of experience in intellectual property law in both practice and the academy. Alpana has lectured in a wide range of postgraduate and undergraduate intellectual property and commercial law subjects at various universities, including the University of Sydney, the University of Queensland, and the University of Technology, Sydney. Alpana is widely published in intellectual property law, and is a commissioned author for several major legal publishers, including Thomson Reuters, Federation Press, LexisNexis, Oxford University Press, and CCH. She is also regularly invited to speak at international and national seminars on a broad range of intellectual property topics. Alpana is regularly engaged to work as a legal consultant and practitioner in intellectual property and commercial law. She has extensive experience in Australian and international intellectual property law, having worked in Sydney for two top-tier corporate law firms, boutique specialist firms, and various private and public sector bodies. Alpana has practised both as a solicitor and a barrister (at the Sydney Bar), mediator, and has also worked internationally as a lawyer. She has been involved in a number of leading cases in the Federal Court of Australia. Alpana is admitted to practise in NSW, and is on the Roll of Legal Practitioners for the High Court of Australia. Geoff Taperell, Senior Consultant, DLA Piper Geoff leads the Competition and Regulation team in the DLA Piper Sydney office. Geoff is well-known as an expert in competition law and policy. He has more than 30 years experience in legal practice, advising public and private organisations on competition law and policy, industry regulation, administrative law and commercial law generally. Geoff also represents clients before the Federal Court of Australia, the High Court of Australia, State Supreme Courts, the Australian Competition Council, the National Competition Council and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. As a member of the Competition and Consumer Law Committee of the Law Council of Australia, Geoff is involved in the preparation of submissions to the Australian Government and others on legislative proposals affecting competition law. Geoff was one of the three members of the Competition Policy Review Committee ( Hilmer Committee ) whose report to the Australian Government in 1993 forms the basis for Australia s current competition policy. He is a co-author of a text on Trade Practices and Consumer Protection and the author of numerous papers and articles. Elizabeth Ticehurst, Senior Associate, DLA Piper Elizabeth is an experienced employment lawyer who advises on a wide range of employment issues, including performance management and discipline; terminations and redundancies; discrimination and harassment claims; workplace investigations; and transmission of business. She has a particular interest in social media, and in ways in which the legal system is grappling to address the many new issues that social media and technology have given rise to in the modern workplace. Prior to joining DLA Piper, Elizabeth was a Senior Associate at Baker & McKenzie in Sydney, and prior to that, at Baker & McKenzie in Tokyo, where she was a leading practitioner in the employment law group. Her work continues to have a strong regional focus, and she assists many multinationals to manage their employment risks in the Asia pacific region.

8 PRESENTERS PROFILE Personal Injury Law Presenters The Honourable Justice Stephen Campbell SC The Honourable Justice Stephen Campbell was appointed to the Supreme Court in May His Honour has been assigned to the Common Law Division, the Judges of which exercise civil and criminal jurisdiction and serve on the Court of Criminal Appeal as rostered by the Chief Justice. His Honour gained his legal qualification from the Barristers Admission Board. While studying, he was employed as a legal clerk by a plaintiffs firm, Messrs. Francis White Barnes and McGuire. After his admission as a solicitor in 1982 he worked as a solicitor advocate for a state government authority before moving to the law firm, then known as Curwood and Derkenne, a leading insurance practice. His Honour was called to the Bar on 1 November 1985 and appointed Senior Counsel in October At the Bar, Justice Campbell s practice embraced all areas of liability work including public liability, motor accidents, industrial accidents and insurance, at first instance and on appeal to the New South Wales Court of Appeal and the High Court of Australia. From 2011 his Honour was a member, and from 2009 Chair, of the Bar Association s Common Law Committee. He also served on the Senior Counsel selection committee in Linden Barnes, Ethics Solicitor, Law Society of NSW Linden Barnes is an Ethics Solicitor at the Law Society of NSW. She provides guidance free of charge to all NSW solicitors on ethical issues such as conflicts, confidentiality and communications. Linden also gives presentations and publishes articles on ethics. She previously worked in-house with major financial institutions and also in personal injury litigation. Michael Barnes, Partner, Carroll & O Dea Michael Barnes was admitted to practice in 1978 and has extensive experience in dispute resolution and litigation across a range of jurisdictions. He is a partner at Carroll and O Dea and was formerly a principal of White Barnes. Michael is an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law as well as Employment and Industrial Law. He has served on a variety of committees of the NSW Law Society including as part of the peer review process by which solicitors become Accredited Specialists in Employment and Industrial Law. Dr Peter Cashman, Professor of Law (Social Justice), University of Sydney Dr Peter Cashman is a barrister and Professor of Law (Social Justice) at the University of Sydney. He was formerly: Commissioner in charge of the civil justice review with the Victorian Law Reform Commission; Commissioner jointly in charge of the reference on class actions with the Australian Law Reform Commission; founding Director of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre; founder and senior partner of the firm Cashman & Partners, which merged with Maurice Blackburn to form the national firm Maurice Blackburn Cashman (now Maurice Blackburn); Governor of the American Trial Lawyers Association (now the American Association for Justice); and National President of the Australian Plaintiff Lawyers Association (now the Australian Lawyers Alliance). He is the author of numerous publications, including Class Action Law & Practice (The Federation Press, 2008) and is presently the Chair of the Board of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre. Belinda Cassidy, Principal Claims Assessor, Motor Accidents Authority Belinda Cassidy was admitted to practice as a solicitor in In 1999, she was appointed as the Principal Claims Assessor of the Motor Accidents Authority s Claims Assessment and Resolution Service, a position she now still holds. Belinda leads a team of claims assessors in the assessment of claims and the determination of procedural disputes that arise in connection with claims. Before joining the Motor Accidents Authority, Belinda was a partner at law firm, Windeyer Dibbs. Kim Garling, Independent Review Officer, WorkCover Kim Garling was appointed as the WorkCover Independent Review Officer in Immediately before this appointment, Kim was principal of the law firm, KA Garling and a consultant to the law firm, Jones Staff and Co. Kim is currently chair of the Legal Aid Review Committee at the Legal Aid Commission of NSW. Kim was a former president of the NSW Law Society and a former chair of the Disciplinary Committee at the Australian Securities Exchange. Since being admitted as a solicitor in 1971, Kim has made many significant contributions to law reform in New South Wales. Jnana Gumbert, Barristerat-Law, Sir Owen Dixon Chambers Jnana Gumbert is a Sydney barrister, practising in the areas of common law, commercial/equity and administrative law. Before being called to the Bar in 2012, Jnana practised as a litigation solicitor for over six years and was a director of Stacks/Goudkamp Lawyers. She was also an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law as well as an assessor for this. Jnana has 13 years experience conducting personal injury litigation in the area of motor accidents, civil liability and medical negligence. Bill Madden, National Practice Group Leader Medical Law, Slater & Gordon Lawyers Bill Madden is a frequent writer on medical law issues with his particular interests including intentional torts and the application of technology in the practices of medicine and law. Bill is an editorial board member for two Lexis Nexis publications, Australian Health Law Bulletin and Australian Civil Liability and is the co-author of three books including Health Care & the Law (5th edition, Thomson Reuters). Bill is a senior fellow (Melbourne Law Masters) University of Melbourne, an adjunct professor with the health law research group at the Queensland University of Technology and an adjunct fellow with the school of law at the University of Western Sydney. 9 Jim Milne, Acting Legal Services Commissioner, Office of the Legal Services Commissioner Jim Milne was appointed Acting Legal Services Commissioner in August Prior to that Jim spent 16 years as the Assistant Commissioner (Complaints) at the Office of the Legal Services Commissioner. Jim also worked for nine years in a senior investigation role at the NSW Ombudsman s Office and also as a community worker in local government. Jim is an accredited LEADR mediator. Denis Mockler (Chair), Principal, Stewart Cuddy & Mockler Denis Mockler is an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law and has experience in all aspects of compensation law. Denis was the Transport Accident Compensation Manager at the GIO before entering private practice. Denis has acted for both claimants and insurers and was a Claims Assessment & Resolution Service (CARS) Assessor.
