2 The UNSW Water Research Centre in Sydney is running a 3-day course: Sustainability Management, Carbon and Water Footprinting be smart and benefit from business opportunities Many companies have recognised the importance of managing their business sustainably, and have taken action to demonstrate responsibility to their customers, stakeholders and staff by implementing sustainability strategies and reducing their carbon and water footprint. Sustainable business management has become a long-standing business approach globally and within Australia. Reducing environmental footprints makes business sense and provides real bottom-line benefi ts. Reliably quantifying reductions in direct or indirect carbon emissions is crucial to accessing the Emissions Reduction Fund under the Australian Government s Direct Action Plan. This 3-day workshop at the University of New South Wales will help organisations take a pro-active approach to the development and implementation of sustainability strategies to manage and reduce their product and corporate carbon and water footprint. Participants will: gain insights in sustainability strategy development including pragmatic advice on challenges when implementing sustainability in a corporate environment; get guidance and hands-on training on measuring product and organisational carbon and water footprints by using reallife case studies; obtain the ability to identify opportunities and risks in carbon and water management; develop the basis for comprehensive corporate or product sustainability strategies. Feedback from previous participants: Excellent job! Brilliant and knowledgeable lecturers. Having already undertaken a carbon footprint review I found the information provided extended my knowledge base to the point where my brain hurt! This was most rewarding! Who should attend? The course provides an ideal background for business managers, consultants, researchers, engineers, environmental managers, analysts and government decision-makers who will be required to engage in sustainability or who are interested in learning how to prepare carbon and water footprints for their products or organisations. Location The course will be held at the Design Studio, Level 5 Civil Engineering Building (Kensington Campus, map ref. H20), University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.

The course will give participants the opportunity to work on selected examples in small groups. We will also discuss how to create sustainability strategies.
