6 China activities: business-model FHNW School of Business has a 20 year history of activities in China. Among other programs, FHNW runs short-term management courses for government senior officials and CEOs of SMEs in four provinces (Gansu, Heilongjiang, Jiangxi and Yunnan) in China. Through these programs, about 100 managers have visited FHNW in Olten every year since These programs are initiated by the provincial government and individual departments, e.g. HR department. Founded on the cooperation between the School of Business and Heilongjiang Province and supported by the network established through short-term courses for the CEOs of SMEs based in the province, a Swiss SME Research Center China (SSRCC) has been set up in Harbin. The center was officially opened in August 2013 and now has five staff members (3 Chinese and 2 Swiss). One employee is based in Olten. The Director of the center, Prof. Dr. Rolf Meyer, is a lecturer at the School of Business Institute of Management. The SS- RCC s mission is to provide Swiss SMEs with a viable opportunity to gain a market presence in China while offering their Chinese counterparts the same possibility in Switzerland. We are currently working on opening a «Swiss Shop» in Harbin and in autumn 2015 we will again participate in the HTF international fair (Harbin Trade Fair). In 2014 our school rented a stand and invited 10 Swiss exhibitors to be present or to be represented by our SSRCC staff. Our institution initiated the network between the government in China and Switzerland and played an active role in signing the Friendship Agreements between the Provinces of Gansu, in 2010, and Heilongjiang, in 2014, and the Canton of Solothurn. In April 2014 an MOU between the vocational schools in Olten (Switzerland) and Harbin (China) was signed, inaugurated by our school on a journey to Harbin. We are the only Swiss Institution with two holders of the Chinese Friendship Award: In 2014, the first «China» SME Forum was held in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce of the Canton of Baselland. With over 100 participants and various talks (for example from Ambassador Etter who played a leading role in signing the Free Trade Agreement between Switzerland and China) the event was a great success. The next «China» SME Forum is scheduled for March 2015 in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce of the Canton of Solothurn and the Solothurn Trade Association Prof. Dr. Ruedi Nützi 2006 Prof. Dr. Peter Abplanalp 4 School of Business
