2 High River - a special place High River Highlights Statistics Canada listed High River as the fourth fastest growing community in Canada, according to the 2011 census and was named one of the Top 10 Communities for Business in 2010 by Alberta Venture Magazine. Located just 30 minutes south of Calgary, High River (2011 pop. 12,920) is a regional service centre with a diversified economy driven by several strong and growing business sectors including agriculture, health, manufacturing, retail, tourism and transportation. Recently an additional 1,769 acres was annexed along the Highway 2A corridor, which doubled High River s footprint. 3 B C B C High River s Field House The Facility The new field house addition will expand recreation facilities, increase sporting activities and support holistic wellness for all residents. The field house will offer: More than 33,000 sq/ft of new space Spectator seating for 200 Five dressing rooms Club meeting room 5800 sq/ft. Wellness Centre Walking area around the exterior of the field Multi-use The playing surface is designed to accommodate as many sports as possible including: Soccer Lacrosse Basketball Volleyball Badminton This new facility is connected to the existing Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex, which already houses two arenas, a swimming pool, hot tub, concession and is home to the Highwood Curling Club. 4 Recreation in High River Recreation, health and wellness are priorities for the High River community. Approximately 3300 people participate in programs, clubs and leagues at the current recreation complex each year and this number is growing as the town expands. In 2012, there were 435 pool/arena pass holders, and 1427 registrants in swim lessons. Organized team sports and recreation clubs are strong in the town, with residents participating in a number of competitive and recreational leagues. 6 Corporate Donations There are a number of opportunities to participate as a corporate donor in this landmark facility that will become a central recreation point for High River. Donations will be used to support recreation activities and purchase equipment and sports-related fixtures. All donations will receive a unique, permanent plaque on a commemorative donation wall in a central location in the field house. 7 Individual Donations A High River Friends of the Field House Society has been created to support this new recreation facility. As their first fundraiser, the society is selling bricks to individuals or groups, which will be used to support recreation activities and purchase equipment and sports-related fixtures. The bricks will be used to build a commemorative donation wall in a central location in the field house, which will become a showcase of the community s support of recreation in High River. Each brick is $250 and will feature a plaque with the names of donors or those being honoured by a donor. It is an opportunity to become a permanent part of this landmark facility. Everyone will have an opportunity to participate in the field house and all donations will receive an official Certificate of Recognition.
