1 H C M U M M & A HOW TO CREATE A MOVIE USING MOVIE MAKER & AUDACITY PART I CREATE MOVIE USING MOVIE MAKER The following is a complete guide for creating movie files using Microsoft Movie Maker. Part II of this tutorial, Adding Narration using Audacity, is optional but details how to narrate a presentation using Audacity. Part I - Creating a Movie using Movie Maker Importing Pictures, Audio, Video Editing Movies Saving Movies Finishing and Exporting Movies Part II - Adding Narration using Audacity Preparing for Narration Recording Narration Exporting Narration Adding Narration to Movie Maker IMPORTING P PICTURES,, A AUDIO & VIDEO 1. Open Movie Maker by going to Start>All Programs> Windows Movie Maker. 2. Import your Pictures: a. Under the Capture Video section of the left panel, Import Pictures. b. Navigate to where you have your pictures saved 3. Import your Audio or Music: a. Under the Capture Video section of the left panel, click on Import Audio or Music. b. Navigate to the folder where you have your Audio or Music is saved. 4. Import your Video Clips: a. Under the Capture Video section of the left panel, click on Import Video. b. Navigate to the folder where you have your Audio or Music is saved c. Here are the file formats supported by Movie Maker: Supported File Types Audio files:.aif,.aifc,.aiff.asf,.au,.mp2,.mp3,.mpa,.snd,.wav, and.wma Picture files:.bmp,.dib,.emf,.gif,.jfif,.jpe,.jpeg,.jpg,.png,.tif,.tiff, and.wmf Video files:.asf,.avi,.m1v,.mp2,.mp2v,.mpe,.mpeg,.mpg,.mpv2,.wm, and.wmv

2 5. Create your Movie: a. Add Pictures - Drag the pictures from the Collections Panel to the individual cells in the Time Line (see below). b. Add Video Transition effects click on View Video Transition. Drag transitions from the video transitions panel into the cells between each picture (see below). c. Add Music and Audio - Switch from Story Board View to Timeline View by clicking on View>Timeline. i. Under the Edit Movie in the left panel, select Show Collection. ii. Drag the Audio or Music from the Collection Panel down to the Audio section of the Timeline. (See below). d. Trim Your Music trim your song to fit the number of slides you have. Grab the handles at either end of the music to adjust (see below).

3 e. Add Fade In and Fade Out effect - by right mouse clicking on your song and selecting the Fade In or Fade Out option. f. Add Title Slide create a title slide introducing yourself as well as your topic. Click on Make Titles and Credits under the Edit Movie section. i. Select the Add Title at the beginning of the movie and type a title for your movie and your name. Change the Title color, animation and font type using options listed below. EDITING OPTIONS 6. Options: a. Add Video Effects - to individual pictures by dragging them from the collections section onto the pictures themselves. b. Add Titles to clips (slides) or before clips. Select the clip then click on Make Titles and Credits under the Edit Movie section. c. Adding Titles to clips can serve the same purpose as adding Bullets to Slides in PowerPoint. It gives you discussion points to discuss with the audience. SAVING YOUR MOVIE 7. When finished, under the Finish Movie section, click on Save to my computer. Name your movie and save to your My Documents folder. FINISHING YOUR MOVIE 8. After you save a Movie Maker project, it creates a file represented by a filmstrip. This file ONLY works in Movie Maker, so you will want to export your movie out in a format you can play OUTSIDE of Movie Maker. To do that, after you save the project, then click FILE, SAVE MOVIE AS. 9. Give your movie a name. Click Browse and find your Movie folder (My Docs or Flash Drive).

Choose Best Quality for playback on my computer or click Show More Choices and pick Other Settings: Video for broadband 512 kbps (if your best quality is over 4 MB, you probably will want to choose the broadband option). NEXT! 11. Finish when that s done, exit Movie Maker. Take the finished movie from your student folder and copy it to your jump drive. Note: You also have the option to output the Video onto a DVD. In step 8, select Recordable CD in stead of My Computer.

5 HOW TO NARRATE A MOVIE USING AUDACITY This tutorial assumes that you have already created a Movie Maker file and you wish to add narration. PREPARE FOR YOUR NARRATION 1. Open your movie file in Windows Media Player (right click on file and select Open With )and leave it in Pause mode. 2. Connect your Microphone and test that it is working. 3. Open Audacity, and click Save Project As. Save to same folder that contains your Movie Maker file. RECORD YOUR NARRATION 4. When you are ready, click the Record button in Audacity and then the Play button in Media player and begin narrating. 5. Click Stop when you finished in Audacity. 6. Save your file. Begin Recording End Recording EXPORT YOUR NARRATION 7. Click File>Export as WAV and export the file as a.wav. 8. Save to the same folder that contains your Movie Maker File. ADD YOUR NARRATION TO MOVIE MAKER 9. Open Movie Maker and click on Import Audio to add your narration (it has the extension.wav ) 10. Switch from Story Board View to Timeline View by clicking on View>Timeline. a. Under the Edit Movie in the left panel, select Show Collection. b. Drag the narration from the Collection Panel down to the Audio section of the Timeline. (See below).

6 11. Align or Trim your Narration trim the narration to fit the presentation by Dragging the handles at the beginning and end of the audio track (see below). 12. Save when finish and follow the Finishing Your Movie section in the prior steps.
