1 The SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard 1. Press the power button, the indicator ring flashes green to indicate that the projector lamp is starting up. The What would you like to do? menu will be displayed. Use stand alone whiteboard system Login to attached computer or laptop Play a DVD or video More information on each option given below: 2. Touch the whiteboard to choose the appropriate option. Capture, save and share your drawings This option allows you to write notes on the interactive whiteboard, without a computer attached. Your notes and drawings can be saved to a USB memory stick, using an application called ScratchPad. The ScratchPad application is only available on the interactive whiteboard. See instructions Capture, save and share your drawings Show and interact with Computer 1 This option allows you to use your laptop, or log into your university student account, using the attached Learning Resources computer. The computer s desktop will be displayed on the interactive whiteboard. You can then create, edit and save your files. See instructions Show and interact with Computer 1 Show and draw over Video 1 You can play a DVD or video on the interactive whiteboard. 1

2 Capture, save and share your drawings This option allows you to write notes on the interactive whiteboard, without a computer attached. Your notes and drawings can be saved to a USB memory stick, using an application called ScratchPad. The ScratchPad application is only available on the interactive whiteboard. 1. Choose Capture, save and share your drawings from the What would you like to do? The ScratchPad toolbar will be displayed at the bottom of the whiteboard. This toolbar can be hidden by pressing the Hide/Show Menu button located next to the power switch. The ScratchPad Toolbar 2. Pick up a pen from the pen tray and write on the interactive whiteboard. To write in a different colour, pick up a different coloured pen. Note: the colour recognition comes from the optical sensors in the pen tray slots and not from the pens themselves. To insert a new page, press the New Page button located on the ScratchPad toolbar. Erasing Notes Pick up the eraser from the pen tray and move it in a smooth motion over the notes to erase them. Important: the interactive whiteboard only recognises the last tool removed from the pen tray. To avoid confusion, return each tool to its proper slot when you have finished using it. Saving your notes and drawings to a USB memory stick The notes and drawings written on the interactive whiteboard can be saved to a USB memory stick. 3 Capture, save and share your drawings Saving your notes to a USB memory stick 1. Insert the USB memory stick into the external connection panel. This will be located either to the left, or underneath the interactive whiteboard. 2. Press the Save to USB Storage Device button located on the ScratchPad toolbar. The ScratchPad Toolbar The following Save to USB Storage Device options will be displayed. Save all pages as a PDF document Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to open files saved in this format. Save each page as a JPEG image This format will open on most computers. Save all pages as a SMART Notebook file Files saved in this format will only open on a computer with the Notebook software installed. 3. Press the screen buttons to choose the appropriate format. Opening saved notes and drawings To open these files choose Show and interact with Computer 1 and insert your USB memory stick into the attached Learning Resources computer, or your own laptop. Exiting from ScratchPad Press the Menu button, then press Exit. Note: if you exit from ScratchPad without saving your notes, you will not be able to recover them. Shutting down Press the power button, the indicator ring flashes red to indicate that the projector lamp is shutting down. 3

4 Show and interact with Computer 1 This option allows you to use your laptop, or log into your university student account, using the attached Learning Resources computer. The computer s desktop will be displayed on the interactive whiteboard. You can then create, edit and save your files. If you have logged into the attached Learning Resources computer you will need to launch the on screen keyboard, and use your finger instead of a mouse. A single finger press is the same as a left mouse click. Example: To open Microsoft PowerPoint, double press the application icon with your finger. Using the attached Learning Resources computer 1. Launch the on screen keyboard by pressing the first large button located on the pen tray. The Pen Tray Press this button to hide the on screen keyboard when not required. Press and drag to move the on screen keyboard around the whiteboard. 2. Log into your student account in the usual way. 3. Open the appropriate application (double press the application icon with your finger). Note: The Start button is hidden by the whiteboard toolbar. To access Start press the Hide/Show Menu button, (located on the pen tray). 4. When you have finished, log out of your student account. If the Start button is hidden, press the Hide/Show Menu button (located on the pen tray) Writing over your desktop image or application. Pick up a pen from the pen tray and write on the interactive whiteboard. To write in a different colour, pick up a different coloured pen. Note: the colour recognition comes from the optical sensors in the pen tray slots and not from the pens themselves. You can also use your finger to write and erase. 4

5 PowerPoint presentations on the interactive whiteboard PowerPoint slideshows can be shown on the interactive whiteboard. The slides are navigated by your finger, and to focus your audience s attention, notes can be added. Slides can be added and edited in the usual way. If you are using your laptop, the keyboard and mouse can be used. If you are using the attached Learning Resources computer, you will need to launch the onscreen keyboard. See instructions Show and interact with Computer 1 1. Open the PowerPoint file. 2. Choose the View menu, then choose Slide Show. Alternatively, press the Slide Show button. Your presentation will begin and the Slide Show toolbar will be displayed. 3. Press the Right Arrow button to move your presentation forward one slide. Press the Left Arrow button to move your presentation back one slide. To write/draw on a slide Pick up a pen from the pen tray and write on the interactive whiteboard. To write in a different colour, pick up a different coloured pen. Note: the colour recognition comes from the optical sensors in the pen tray slots and not from the pens themselves. Touch the interactive whiteboard once with your finger to clear your notes or use the eraser (located on the pen tray). To insert notes and drawings into your presentation Press the middle button on the Slide Show toolbar and choose Insert Drawing as Image. Your image is now inserted into your PowerPoint file and you can continue with your presentation. Important: remember to save your PowerPoint file if want the notes or drawings you inserted to appear the next time you present. To end the slide show Press the middle button on your Slide Show toolbar and choose End Show. 5
