1 FROM MOONSCAPE TO GREENSCAPE MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION How do I do it? This presentation will help students learn to use Window s Movie Maker to create a commercial Step 1: Determine whether Movie Maker is on your Windows computer. Go to the START MENU ALL PROGRAMS ACCESSORIES and find the icon Windows Movie Maker (It looks like a movie reel) Step 2: If you do not have Movie Maker, go to the Microsoft web site and download it for free.

2 Step 3: The Movie Maker Task Pane: As soon as you open Movie Maker, you will want to use the Movie Maker Task Pane. If it doesn t automatically open, click on View Task Pane. The Task Pane contains all of the steps required to complete this project. Step 4: Save your project onto your hard drive. Make sure that you save your work often. Step 5: Import Pictures: Under the Capture Video title, click on Import Pictures. Navigate to the source of your pictures (the CD rom you were given) Select the images that you want to import and click on the Import button Remember: you must always have the CD rom in the drive when working on this project (unless you copy the pictures to your harddrive) Step 6: Adding Pictures to project: At the bottom of the screen is the timeline/storyboard (where you create your commercial). You want to use the storyboard option. If you have to, click on the Show Storyboard as shown in the picture. Step 7: Drag and Drop the pictures that you want to use into the storyboard. You can change

3 the order of your pictures by dragging and switching them within the storyboard Step 8: Effects You can add video effects to each image by clicking on View Video Effects in the Task Pane. Choose an Effect and drag it onto a picture Step 9: Transitions You can add a transition between images by clicking on View Video Transitions in the Task Pane Choose a transition and drag it onto the space between pictures in the storyboard Step 10: Preview your commercial so far: At any point you can preview your commercial and the transitions and effects by clicking on the play button on the media player on the right of the screen Step 11: You may want to add titles and credits to your commercial Start by clicking on the Make Titles or Credits link in the Task Pane Click on the picture that you want to add the title to Select whether you want the title before, after or on the picture Step 12: You can add Animations to your titles. Preview the animations in the media player to the right of the screen.

4 Step 13: Music: To enhance your commercial you should add some copyright free instrumental music. Go to Select a piece of music that you like. Choose an.mp3 file that can be imported into Movie Maker Right Click on the music file that you like and choose Save Target As.. Save your music file to your hard drive Step 14: Importing your music: In the Task Pane, select Import Audio or Music Once imported the audio file can be dragged into the storyboard. When you do this, Movie Maker will revert to timeline view. Step 15: Narration: You may wish to narrate (talk about the picture with your voice) your commercial and tell a story that matches your pictures. Click on Tools Narrate Timeline (this step requires a microphone connected to your computer.

5 Step 16: Narrating: Make sure that you write up a script for your narration and that you are in a quiet room while narrating When you click on the Start Narration button, the commercial will play to help you match your words with the pictures. Save your narration Step 17: Mix Audio: To combine the narration and instrumental music, drag the music over the narration in the Timeline. The audio tracks will be merged as shown in the picture to the right Step 18: Sharing your Commercial: Throughout this process you have been saving your project, but now it is time to create a file that you can share with others. Click on File Save Movie File Step 19: Saving your Movie: There are a number of options for saving your movie. You can choose to save it to your computer. Make sure that the name of your movie is unique and that you know where you are saving it on your hard drive. Notice that there is a difference between the icons of the movie file and the project file Step 20: Burn a CD with your commercial and get it to your teacher. Your commercials have to be submitted by June 15th Good luck and enjoy making your first commercial!
