2 WHY Choose The Y? TRADITION The YMCA invented day camping to bring the fun experiences of resident camp to local neighborhoods. For many decades the Y has developed quality camp programs that enrich your child s mind, spirit and body. SAFETY Our number one goal always has been, and will continue to be, to provide safe experiences and activities. We care for your children as though they were our own - because they are! We are family at the Y. FLEXIBILITY Why? Because every family has different needs, we strive to present camp options that fit both busy summer calendars, those who need camp as a great resource for working moms and dads, and those who just want to incorporate some fun into their summer. HEALTHY LIVING The Y is committed to developing the whole child and instilling healthy habits in our campers. Camps will include active play, nutritious meals and snacks including fruits and vegetables. Water will be the preferred drink served at meal and snack time and milk will be available. WE ARE HERE TO HELP KIDS SUCCEED ACHIEVEMENT Our campers will gain new knowledge, skills and abilities that help them realize their passions, talents and potential. Progressive skill clinics will build confidence and assist campers discover who they are. RELATIONSHIPS BELONGING Camp is all about developing good relationships. Campers will make new friends and form positive relationships with adult role models. Our camps create a sense of community where kids feel safe, welcome and can express their individuality.
3 Girls on the Run Summer Camps Girls entering grades 3-6 are invited to participate in a condensed version of this character-building program. Girls will learn life skills through dynamic, conversationbased lessons and running games. The week culminates with a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. Girls on Track Summer Camps The Girls on Track curriculum is designed to address the physical and emotional challenges of middle school girls by empowering them to make thoughtful and healthy decisions. Running is incorporated into the curriculum. We use physical activity to inspire and motivate girls throughout the program to encourage lifelong health and fitness and most importantly, to build confidence through accomplishment. At the end of each session, the girls and their mentors complete a 5k running event. 4 Discovery Camp My daughter talks about the values of communicating, taking care of each other and herself, making friends, etc. She has grown a lot socially and has learned to adapt to various situations. I feel the camp has helped to prepare her for school Our licensed Discovery Camp offers an ideal transition from preschool into the longer school days of kindergarten. Located in our Bellingham Program Center, Discovery Camp presents opportunities for children to participate in a summer program geared towards the specific developmental needs and interests of children ages 4-5. Campers will spend time engaged in a variety of activities balancing between traditional camp experiences (outdoors, art, music and games), activities to build relationships with peers and experiences to enrich their upcoming kindergarten entrance (journaling, activities encouraging reading, writing and problem solving skills). Discovery Camp also includes local outdoor field trips three times per week, swimming and rock climbing! 5 Y s Kids Summer Enrichment My children really enjoyed going to the day camp. The staff kept them constantly moving and busy. I will definitely be looking into the YMCA summer camp next year. Summer just would not be the same without YMCA programs. Our state licensed program has been enriching the lives of Whatcom County for over 25 years. This summer, the YMCA is collaborating with the Bellingham School District to provide hands on educational enrichment activities during the morning camp hours that will include fun learning in math, literacy and science. In the afternoon, we will provide traditional day camp activities to include crafts, swimming and field trips. Y s Kids Summer Enrichment gives you the options of a full or part time experience. 6 Adventure Camp Information My child had a great time at Y Adventure Camp. He was free to explore nature, meet new and diverse people, and learn some great camp songs. Thanks for loving and caring for my child!. Adventure Camp is a safe, exciting experience in which campers explore the outdoors, build self-esteem, develop new skills and make life long memories. Weekly sessions are designed to build community. Kids are divided into trail groups by age and will have the same counselor throughout the week. This allows the groups to form strong bonds and the kids lasting friendships. Each day will build on the one previous, and the week culminates with a special ceremony on Friday celebrating the week of camp. This year s weekly themes will be based on popular children s literature and will promote learning and variety. Our themes are designed so campers may have experiences beyond the ordinary and so that each week of camp is fresh. Campers are active all day long and have a blast while developing the YMCA character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
