New Funding Support Executive Director Caryn Swan Jamero CDSA Receives Funding from Seattle Families and Education Levy Development Director Catherine Willis Cleveland Operations Director Brianna Jackson Finance Director Liz Director Human Resources Director Rhonda Withrow CDSA Board of Directors Board President Nicholas Heyer Board Members Matt Adkins Julie Antos Nadiya Beckwith-Stanley Catherine Gile Terri Hansen Anne Leyva Kellie Nketiah As CDSA proudly enters its 14 th year of funding support from United Way of King County, it also celebrates another long term funder relationship an 8th year of funding from Seattle s Families and Education Levy! This 2012 news is particularly exciting because Levy contracts come up every 7 years, and this was the big year. Not only was our pre-school Levy funding renewed for 7 more years, but we also received new Levy funding for our school age programs, which help children both academically and emotionally. Stay tuned for new academic achievement data being measured this year, in collaboration with Seattle Public Schools. As we head into the new school year, CDSA is grateful for the Levy support of all our programs!

To Contact Us: communitydayschool.org Main Office th Ave. S Suite 1L Seattle, WA P: F: Beacon Hill th Ave. S Seattle, WA P: Hawthorne th Ave. S Seattle, WA P: Highland Park 1012 SW Trenton St. Seattle, WA P: Technology Access Foundation This summer CDSA partnered with Technology Access Foundation (TAF) to introduce an exciting new computer learning program in our CDSA Summer Camps! TAF offered 4 week classes in computers & robotics for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at CDSA Madrona and Maple. Knowing how future careers can be launched at a young age, we re thrilled to provide this kind of 21st century learning experience for our CDSA kids. This new partnership was such a success that we re seeking funding to help roll this program out to more CDSA sites next summer. Kimball rd Ave. S Seattle, WA P: Leschi nd Ave. Seattle, WA P: EMP Museum Madrona rd Ave. Seattle, WA P: Maple 4925 Corson Ave. S Seattle, WA P: Montlake nd Ave. E Seattle, WA P: Sanislo 1812 SW Myrtle Seattle, WA P: This Fall CDSA is launching a new partnership with the EMP Museum, who is in their first year of a project focused on tying music to Washington State Common Core Standards for academic achievement. CDSA was chosen as a community partner to join with 4 schools for this exciting program funded in part by The Hearst Foundation. The project is focused on 21st century skills in areas of Science and Technology, Language, and Social Sciences. It will incorporate both hands on learning for children, as well as professional development training for our teachers. Gearing up for the program, CDSA children visited EMP during Summer Camp. Pictured above is one of our CDSA Madrona 1st graders, enjoying an interactive listening station during his visit to EMP.

Corporate Sponsors Argosy Cruises The chance to ride an Argosy Cruises boat ride was a huge treat for kids, who enjoyed perfect weather, and exciting, wind-in-your-face upper deck views of Seattle and the Olympic mountains! Once they arrived, kids beached combed, explored forts and marveled at giant driftwood. Highlights included seeing deer, bald eagles, crabs, a 15 legged starfish (pictured above), and even discovering a piece of sea kelp formed in the shape of a heart. Also high on the list was splashing in the sun! After a sack lunch by the woods, children got to watch the amazing Salish Indian Cultural Show and Dance. The group returned filled with stories to share with their families. We re grateful to Argosy Cruises for a fabulous day! CDSA Goes to the Zoo! Top Left and Far Right: CDSA parents and their children attend CDSA s Day at the Zoo Middle: CDSA HR & Finance Assistant, Gabrielle James and her three daughters also attend Left: CDSA Executive Director Caryn Swan Jamero s grandson On May 19th, over 300 CDSA family members and staff joined together for a free day at the Woodland Park Zoo. Families shared games, live music provided by Doug Flemming Jr., and a tropical themed picnic! The rest of the afternoon, families got to enjoy animal exhibits. On top of it all, it was one of our 1st great Seattle sunny days. Thank you to Woodland Park Zoo!

Summer Fieldtrips! Kids Watch Dance THIS! at Moore Theatre Kids Cheer for the Seattle Storm! Kids Experience the Museum of Flight!

Community Support CDSA Thanks our Volunteers for Their Hands on Help! Above: Volunteers from Seattle City Works came to CDSA Highland Park to replenish the gardens, pressure wash the patio, and landscape the children s outdoor play ground. Below: Volunteers from the National Association of Elementary Principals and workers from Landscape Structures Inc. rebuild Hawthorne s playground and replant the gardens. Stay tuned to hear about United Way of King County s Day of Caring 2012 coming up soon on September 21st. Volunteers from Microsoft have already registered to design and replenish the gardens surrounding CDSA s Leschi site! Teacher Training Day at Mount Baker Community Club CDSA Kimball s Enrichment Teacher, Rainer, shows off his center piece for the CDSA Staff Training Day. Rainer is one of our bilingual teachers, fluent in Japanese. Director of Operations, Brianna Jackson and Operations Manager, Darline Guerrero, presenting Fall curriculum options to CDSA staff. CDSA Leschi Enrichment Teacher Maria is fluent in Oromo. Help Kids by Donating your Car! Our first three car donations supported out Summer Camp program which helps reduce summer learning loss, and prepares children to transition from grade to grade. Help support CDSA by converting your unwanted car into cash to support kids! To donate a car to CDSA please go to:

Growing Success This Year CDSA Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of our Executive Director, Caryn Swan Jamero! Under Caryn s leadership, Community Day School Association has grown from serving a few dozen children to 1,000 and from 10 to 70 employees. CDSA s community of families, staff, and partner agencies salute Caryn for her 20 years of helping children succeed in school and in life! Thank you to our most recent donors, funders and volunteers. The success of CDSA would not be possible without your support! Music In Schools
