How do you place a value on the intangible?
How do you place a value on the intangible? Or measure the power of a human connection? Everyone has a story. About the healing they ve experienced firsthand or witnessed in someone they care about. About the people who make that healing possible day in and day out. About the incredible things they ve seen great care do. About how thankful they are to have the right people in the right place, at the right time. 1
How do you account for a fortune that s been reversed from bad to good again? s When Alan s wife, Bobbie, developed an infection and became critically ill, he knew where to turn. Physicians and staff at Riverside Methodist Hospital never gave up on Bobbie or themselves throughout a two-week period in the ICU that was, at best, touch and go. Bobbie is now fully recovered, though with little recollection of what happened. Alan, however, will never forget. the alan and bobbie weiler icu educational award was established by the weilers to honor excellence in icu nursing at riverside methodist hospital. {learn more about giving. please call us at { I m a member of the Riverside Methodist Hospital Development Board, so I m well aware of the great things that go on every day in this hospital. Having experienced it, I now fully appreciate it. 2 3
Our story goes back over 100 years. the story of the OhioHealth Foundation goes back to 1891, when Protestant Hospital, now known as Riverside Methodist Hospital, was built with the generosity of the local donor community. Since then, as the OhioHealth system has evolved, so have we. Today, gifts made to the OhioHealth Foundation now benefit Riverside Methodist Hospital, Grant Medical Center, Doctors Hospital, Dublin Methodist Hospital, Grady Memorial Hospital and HomeReach Hospice. Nearly 100 community leaders serve on our Foundation Development Boards to solicit and steward gifts we receive from individuals, corporations, foundations and grant-making organizations. $18.1 million fy10 total contributions $10.9M $5.0M $1.6M $.6M Foundations Individuals Corporations Service Boards and Volunteer Groups We honor stories of great care and caring by ensuring the gifts we receive in appreciation and gratitude make the biggest difference they possibly can. That they re used when and where they re needed most. That they make an impact. And that they leave a legacy of better care for our communities. Over the past five years, donors have generously contributed close to $50 million to our hospitals and healthcare services through the OhioHealth Foundation much of it in the form of planned gift support from patients, physicians and individuals. 4 5
Your story inspires us. No one knows what stories of great care and caring mean to our communities better than the healthcare organizations that serve them. At each of our care sites, there is someone dedicated to philanthropy who wants to hear your story. Who will work with you. Who will make sure your gift of thanks is focused on creating or sustaining programs that specifically address the needs of your chosen care site. Who will pay tribute to your story. Giving is a very personal decision. We can help. Please call the OhioHealth Foundation to discuss how you d like your gift to be used. 6 7

Call it collaboration. This is what we do, every day. Riverside Methodist offers the latest medical techniques and innovations. Ranked every year since 2001 among the nation s 100 Top Hospitals by Thomson Reuters, Riverside Methodist has long been voted central Ohio s most preferred hospital in the annual Consumer Choice Award. Our physicians are renowned... our nurses are nationally recognized...and our hospital is home to the state s largest stroke program, one of the busiest maternity programs, and is nationally recognized for heart and vascular care. We re a Level I Trauma Center, with 15 specialty physicians ready 24/7. The Emergency Department is the front door of our hospital, where inside, we offer many more advanced health services. Grant Medical Center has a legacy of extraordinary care that goes back 110 years. We re one of the busiest Level I Trauma Centers in Ohio. Our physicians and nurses have a national reputation for excellence in orthopedics, cardiology and women s health. And we set ourselves apart with such services as bloodless surgery, a human milk bank and a nurse anesthetist training program. and expertise with others seeking to do the same. Doctors Hospital is the second-largest teaching hospital of osteopathic medicine in the country. We provide advanced health services, including heart and cancer care, orthopedics and imaging, and we recently tripled the amount of space in our newly expanded Emergency Department to better accommodate patient care and privacy. Our commitment to high quality care and patient satisfaction is why Thomson Reuters ranks us among the nation s top 100 teaching hospitals. How are your gifts used? What inspires you to give may be everything in healthcare that is intangible. Yet, you want your gift to make a very tangible difference where you, your family and friends live 1 Innovation & Technology 2 Research & Education and seek care. We focus fundraising in four key areas that enable our care sites to make meaningful and long-lasting improvements in the healthcare they provide. We support the discovery and use of new innovations not only because they raise the bar for cutting-edge medicine but because they reveal unexpected ways to better care for our patients. To find cures and new solutions. And to improve our patients experiences in ways both big and small. In healthcare more than in any other field, there s no such thing as knowing too much. We fund research and education so our healthcare professionals can continually gain new knowledge and share what they know with our teams and patients alike. 8-11

I never lost my hair. And I never needed public transportation or a volunteer during my cancer treatments. But I sat with many women who did, and not once did they complain. How do you bear the news, let alone the cost, of a breast cancer diagnosis? s The beauty surrounding her daily life has always been the inspiration of Laurie s artwork. Her lake home. Rural landscapes. Purple cone flowers. And women those she had come to know and admire at Grant Medical Center. Like her, they were receiving treatment for breast cancer. Unlike her, they needed wigs or transportation but were without the means to pay. Painting gave Laurie tremendous strength, comfort and an escape throughout treatment. And now, her painting is giving women in need with breast cancer much, much more. { learn one hundred percent of the proceeds from locks and a lift, a silent auction, and ongoing sales of oil paintings by local artist laurie clements benef it women receiving breast cancer treatment at grant medical center. more about giving. please call us at { 12 13
It was so wonderful to see the team at Kobacker bring life into my mom s dying days when it could have been so easy to just let her be. How do you quantify the value of a shared moment of celebration and peace? s As all mothers and daughters imagine, Denise helped her daughter, Natalie, get dressed on her wedding day before watching her marry the man she had chosen to spend her life with. It was a lovely impromptu event held in the garden room of Kobacker House and planned by the hospice staff when Denise s condition dramatically worsened. Three days later, Denise died, though not without the peace and fulfillment of seeing her daughter and son-in-law start their new life together. in addition to the kobacker family, corporate and foundation donors have made it possible to build a new kobacker house to address the growing needs of our community. {learn more about giving. please call us at { 14 15
There is more to our story. The OhioHealth Foundation is a vital partner with central Ohio corporations and foundations that have made it their philanthropic mission to improve the health and health services of our community. as a steward of corporate and foundation gifts, we apply their support directly to projects that are most critical to our community and that matter most to their organization from increasing health access for the underserved to improving the quality, safety and efficiency of medical care promoting disease prevention and reducing costly health disparities. as philanthropic partners, we share the benefits of a healthier community. together, we re f inding solutions that matter Support from corporations and foundations makes it possible for OhioHealth to find innovative and cost-effective solutions to urgent healthcare issues facing the community. The social and economic value of these gifts is real, measurable and impactful. For every dollar given to OhioHealth, there is a direct return on what matters most preventing illness and saving lives. With support of corporate and foundation partners, we are able to detect cancer at its earliest stage to deliver prenatal care that will prevent birth defects to find more effective ways to prevent obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Every dollar given to OhioHealth has a direct impact on what matters most preventing illness and saving lives. together, we re ensuring a vital community We have a more productive, prosperous community because of corporate and foundation philanthropy that targets the most vulnerable residents and the toughest health problems. This keeps central Ohio vital and growing a place where people want to live, work and raise a family. With philanthropic support, we are able to maintain world-class patient care physician and nurse training community education and advanced medical research. 16
