2 Introduction Leeds College of Building is a recognised centre for the delivery of the British Institute of Facilities Management () qualifications. As such, the College offers a suite of courses which have been designed to meet the skills needs of both facilities management employers as well as their employees. These include qualifications ranging from Facilities Services at level 2, to the highest award which is the level 6 Diploma in Facilities Management. The College is committed to providing a high quality learning experience that encompasses personalised learning, effective methods of assessment and feedback, together with the use of technology to increase flexibility in delivery and opportunities for individual progression. In addition, each course has been designed to build on previous knowledge and students are supported by a dedicated team of teaching and support staff, many of whom have previously worked in industry and encourage students to use their working experiences as part of their learning process. 3 Level 2 Certificate in Facilities Services The level 2 qualifications are for anyone who is new to facilities services. This may be as a school leaver wanting to move into this area or operational staff who don t have prior qualifications and want to start a career in facilities management/services. It may also suit anyone who is thinking of a career switch into this exciting area. The courses have been designed to give a broad understanding of FM as well as developing personal learning and thinking skills. There are 3 routes available. 1. The level 2 Certificate in Facilities Services Principles is studied in college at Leeds over 4 week blocks. 2. For those wanting to be assessed solely in the workplace Facilities Services there is the Level 2 Certificate in Facilities Services. 3. The third route is the FM level 2 Apprenticeship. This combines on site assessment with classroom teaching and learning. This route is aimed at employers wishing to up-skill their workforce. Further details will be supplied on request. Level 2 Certificate in Facilities Services Principles (Knowledge) The course takes 1 year to complete and is taught at Leeds, (start dates to be confirmed) - Units Covered Credits Working in Facilities Services 3 Sustainability & Environmental Issues for Facilities Services 4 Health & for Facilities Services 4 Working with Customers and others in Facilities Services 2 Units covered on the Level 2 Certificate in Facilities Management Services Principles Level 2 Certificate in Facilities Services (Practice) Candidates are assessed for their competence in the workplace Units Covered Credits Reduce risks to health and safety in the workplace 3 Promote and maintain service delivery 4 Contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of premises and facilities 4 Support the work of a team and develop yourself 3 Monitor and maintain electrical and plumbing services 4 Carry out maintenance and minor repairs 3

4 Certificate & Diploma Programmes in FM ( ) As a recognised centre for the delivery of qualifications, Leeds College of Building offer two level 3 distance learning programmes. The level 3 Certificate (30 credits) and Diploma (48 credits) are primarily aimed at first-line managers and supervisors in facilities management. However, the level is also suitable for new recruits into the industry who have a relevant level 2 or equivalent qualification. The courses have been designed to develop an understanding and knowledge of facilities management industry matters as well as well as developing personal learning and thinking skills. Certificate in FM (DL) The level 3 certificate is an on-line, distance learning programme which is administrated by College staff. Candidates study and are assessed on 6 units (see below) typically over a one year period starting on various dates throughout the year. The course cost 1,075 (which includes the registration fee). Units Covered Credits Introduction to facilities management 6 Corporate social responsibility and sustainability in FM 4 Customer and stakeholder relations in facilities management 5 Specification and procurement of facilities supplies and services 6 Budget Management of FM Operations 4 Building maintenance in facilities management 5 Candidates who successfully complete the Certificate can study for a further top-up year to complete the Diploma. This builds on the knowledge gained on the certificate course. The cost of the top-up course is 1,005.

5 Diploma in Facilities Management (DL) Candidates with a good level 2 qualification can opt to study for the level 3 Diploma in FM. This is delivered over 2 years and, as with the certificate programme, it is an on-line, distance learning programme which is administrated by college staff. Candidates study and are assessed on 10 units (see below) typically over 2 years with start dates throughout the year. The course costs 1,940 (which includes the registration fee). 6 Level 4 Diploma in FM (DL) This course is suitable for facilities staff who are looking for progression to middle or senior management and have a relevant level 3 qualification or experience. It may also be of interest to those in associated disciplines with suitable qualifications who wish to move into the facilities management profession. The level 4 course in FM normally takes 1 to 2 years to complete (you choose how quickly you want to complete) and there are various start dates throughout the year (details will be supplied on request). You will study the 8 units as detailed below - each taught and assessed using distance learning. This means you don t have to attend the College as all teaching and learning materials are available on-line using the college s Virtual Environment (VLE). 7 Level 5 Diploma in Facilities Management (DL) The level 5 Diploma is suitable for senior facilities and estates managers who have a relevant level 4 qualification or experience. The level 5 course in FM normally takes between 1 to 2 years to complete and there are various start dates throughout the year (details supplied on request). You study 9 units as detailed below and each unit is taught using distance learning. This means you don t have to attend the College as all teaching and learning materials are available on-line using the College s Virtual Environment (VLE). 8 Level 6 Extended Diploma in Facilities Management (DL) The highest FM qualification on offer at the College is the Level 6 Diploma in FM. It is aimed at suitably qualified candidates or senior managers working at a strategic level. Applicants may also be considered from anyone who has a UK degree level qualification in an associated subject. The course is delivered on a distance-learning (on-line) basis and will normally take a minimum of 1 year to complete or a maximum of 2 years.
