School Direct is a year long, school based teacher training programme, where you immerse yourself into life as a teacher from day one as a member of the school staff We offer both salaried and training based places in a range of subjects Secondary and Primary
Dispelling common misconceptions about School Direct! MYTH I ll get thrown in at the deep end, teaching difficult classes by myself early on I ll only train in one school I want something broader than this There s no academic or theoretical training. I won t get a PGCE Don t most people go to University to do teacher training? I won t receive the same level of financial support that I would following a university led path to teaching I m not sure whether School Direct is for people thinking of switching career School Direct is the same as Teach First FACT You are part of a team from the start and receive intensive support from experience teachers in the classroom. You won t be teaching classes unsupported until school thinks you are ready, and opportunities will exist to build networks with fellow trainees To become a qualified teacher, you have to take training placements in two settings. Trainees will train in at least two schools, and will usually spend time in other schools too (i.e cross phase, specialisms etc) Yes you will. We are working with the Sheffield Hallam University who offer the PGCE (60 credits at Masters Level). Our QTS and PGCE programme are set to complement each other. School-led routes into teaching have been around for many years, and have high rates of trainee satisfaction. In 2013/14 third of Postgraduate ITT places were school led. In it will be half There is the same financial support for the School led route. In addition, only school led routes offer a salaried route for career changers. It definitely is. People with at least three year s work experience can apply for the salaried route (and no bursary) or standard training route for which bursaries are available. No they are different (although they are both teacher training). You apply to them differently; School Direct through UCAS, Teach First direct to Teach First. There are far more places available for School Direct than Teach First. SCITTs are the same as School Direct Various providers can offer the School Direct Programme. SCITTs are a school based provider of ITT.
We offer trainees the opportunity to gain Qualified Teacher Status - QTS & *PGCE (with 60 credits at Masters Level) Included in the programme will be short term placement at another same phase school & cross phase school If you are considering the salaried route you will need at least three years work experience if you wish to apply *with Sheffield Hallam University

In order to apply for School Direct, you must have A UK degree or recognised equivalent GCSE English and Maths (Grade C) or equivalent GCSE Science (Grade C) or equivalent for Primary Prior to commencing any SD programme you MUST also pass the Professional Skills Test (in numeracy and literacy) but you don t need to have this at the point of applying, although it is recommended THIS IS DONE VIA
The passion to commit to teaching! Be determined, enthusiastic, caring, inspiring, and motivating! A real interest for the subject that you want to share!
Applications are welcomed from Graduates - from all subjects and Career Changers
Applications for all teacher training are made through UCAS-TT Applications for 2017 admission open on 18 th October 2016
THINK CAREFULLY about your reasons for applying for the course and your interest in becoming a teacher. This is your chance to stand out from the rest. Draw on what you can bring to teaching that others may not be able to offer. Your application will be assessed and shortlisted for interview
BE PREPARED research the course and institution thoroughly (recent OFSTED report), as well as the issues surrounding education, your chosen subject and teaching in general. Policies and practices change quickly, so your knowledge needs to be up to date. You can t know everything, but demonstrate that you can reflect intelligently on the experience and knowledge that you do have.
The School Direct programme is designed to develop teaching skills. Strong subject knowledge is recommended before you start training If you are offered a place but your degree does not link closely to your chosen teaching subject it is recommended that you undertake a subject knowledge enhancement course before you begin training (or in conjunction with commencing training)
Bluecoat Academy are registered with the NCTL (National College for Teaching and Learning) and offer up to TEN days school experience through the School Experience Programme (SEP) Spending time in a classroom is the ideal way to strengthen your application for teacher training. School experience gives you the chance to see for yourself what it's really like to be a teacher and supports your application and interview. What can you expect? Throughout your placement, you'll have the opportunity to observe teaching and to talk to teachers about day-to-day life in a school. You should get the chance to see a range of different lessons and age groups being taught. How to sign up for a placement on the SEP If you haven't already, you'll need to register with the Teaching Line before you can participate. If you're eligible for the programme, once you have registered you will receive a registration number this means you can book a placement with Bluecoat Academy through the SEP booking portal and an will be sent through to us. For an extended placement a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check may be required.
Are you are thinking about teaching and would like to know more before applying? Would you like to know more about training with Bluecoat SCITT Alliance and what the programme involves Come and talk to staff and current trainees and have your questions answered by those with a host of experience Look around a large and diverse school and observe teaching activity across the Key Stages These Days are designed for you!
