Toddlers should wear protective swim wear such as plastic pants under a tight leg swim suit or a swim diaper. Do not attend class if your child is experiencing diarrhea. 3-5 years Children begin working with an instructor, following safety rules, learning to float, and adjusting to the water thru games that build confidence and skills. A 3-5 years For children who are comfortable in the water. Children who can get their face wet; with instructors support, comfortably float on their back with their ears in the water; perform kicking while on front and back; and follow safety directions and instructions. B 4-5 years For children who are VERY comfortable in the water; can get their face wet; float on their back and front with instructor support; and can swim independently with a noodle or float belt years For children who are not swimming independently or who have not had swimming lessons before. Supported floats, glides, and beginning front and back stroke work are covered. Safety practices and becoming comfortable in the water is emphasized.
