1 WebDT Mobile Tablet Operation Manual For Windows XP Embedded Software Utilities Using the System Utility The System Utility Program can be launched by pressing the default front button to allow user re calibrate the touch screen, enable/disable WiFi & Bluetooth, adjust the LCD brightness level, speaker volume and view the current power source and status. Press the default hotkey to launch the System Utility program as shown in below picture : (User can re assign the System Utility button to another front button by Button Manager ) 1

2 The 5 major functions in the System Utility as below: 1. Calibration Click the Touch Calibration button will start the touch panel calibration immediately. 2. Communication Status Allow user to enable or disable WiFi and Bluetooth or launch the WiFi and Bluetooth window to adjust WiFi or Bluetooth properties quickly. If the WiFi or Bluetooth modules are installed, user will be able to turn on or off Wireless connection via the blue circle button. Click the Properties buttons will launch the Property dialogs for WiFi or Bluetooth. 3. Brightness User can increase or decrease the brightness level of the LCD panel by clicking on the up and down arrow buttons. 4. Volume User can increase or decrease the speaker volume by clicking on the up and down arrow icons. User can also mute the speaker by clicking on the speaker icon. Click the icon again will unmute the speaker. 5. Power Source Display the current charge status; power source can be AC Power or Internal Battery. 2

3 Using the Button Manager The Button Manager is an application used to define button functions of the front buttons. All the front buttons are user programmable, except for the Windows Task Manager front button. If you would like to use the combination function (Fn+ any front button), the Fn button will need to be assigned to front button before you assign other combination functional buttons. (Please refer to Page 6 for Assign a Combination Function Button). Run Start >All Programs >DT Research> Button Manager >BMConfig or click the the Button Manager program. icon in the taskbar to launch You can always click Default button to restore to default button assignment, or click Cancel button to exit the program. 3

4 If a scanner module has been installed on the WebDT Mobile Tablet, the right side trigger button will be assigned as scanner trigger button by default but user can change it via Button Manager. If your WebDT Mobile Tablet doesn t come with a scanner module, the right side button will not be assigned with any default function and is, therefore, available to use for other button functions. Note: The screen image might be slightly varied on different models. 4

5 Non programmable Buttons: This button (shown as in Button Manager) will launch the Windows Task Manager which provides information about programs and processes running on your WebDT Mobile Tablet. To Assign a Normal Button Function: 1. Start Button Manager by tapping in the task bar. 2. Tap one of the front buttons on the WebDT Mobile Tablet to be programmed. The tapped button will be changed to orange status as shown in bellow picture: User can select one of the listed blue button functions in Normal tab to replace the tapped button. Then the button function will be changed immediately. Click OK to confirm the change and exit Button Manager. 5

In the Normal tab, there are a list of pre defined buttons: Last Updated: April 25 th, 2011 Unused/Arrow UP/Arrow Down/Arrow Left/Arrow Right/ Customize/Fn/Internet Explorer/Volume/System Utility/Soft Keyboard/ Calibration/ Wireless Control/Outlook Express/Sound Recorder /Brightness/Screen Rotation Note: If a scanner or camera module is installed, the camera and scanner trigger button icons will be shown in the Normal tab list. To Run a Specific Program: 1. Tap one of the front buttons on WebDT Mobile Tablet to be programmed. 2. Tap the Customize button, and enter the path name of the executable program and its parameters. Or click Browsing button to select a target program location. 3. Click OK to assign the function to the selected button. 4. The function is now assigned to the customized program selected by the user. Press the selected front button to launch the program. To Assign a Combination Function Button: 1. Firstly, the Fn function should be assigned to in Normal tab. 2. Then switch to Fn On tab in Button Manager. 3. Tap one of the front buttons on the WebDT Mobile Tablet to be programmed. The tapped button will be changed to orange status. 4. Select a function from the blue buttons listed in the FnON tab, and it will be assigned to the selected button. 5. Click OK to enable this function on the selected button. 6. The combination function is now assigned to the selected button. See an example in below picture: Click and together will then enable the Customize function. 6

8 To Assign a Button in Winlogon: Last Updated: April 25 th, 2011 The Winlogon tab allows user to define buttons to launch Software Keyboard and Calibration functions during the Windows login procedure. The Default button functions in Winlogon: Soft Keyboard Windows Task Manager Calibration 8

9 Using the Optional Module from Keyboard Wedge The WebDT Keyboard Wedge is the software program that interfaces with the device to translate data read by the data capture module such as a magnetic stripe card reader, a barcode scanner or a RFID reader into keystroke data. Enabling Keyboard Wedge Tap the icon in the task bar, and a menu as shown in below picture will be displayed. You can choose to connect a Scanner, MSR or RFID. The input data from the selected data capture module will be passed to the active application as keystrokes. RFID module connected To Test the Optional Module from Keyboard Wedge To test the modules via Keyboard Wedge, make sure that all the module configurations have been set completely in advance. ( Please refer to page 11 for Configuration Settings.) 1. Tap the icon on the task bar, and make sure the optional modules have been connected from the menu list. 9

10 2. Run Start> All programs> Accessories> NotePad to run the Microsoft NotePad. 3. Capture the data via magnetic stripe card, scanner or RFID. The captured output will appear in the NotePad screen as below picture. 4. Verify the captured data. 10

11 Configuration Settings MSR Configuration For a magnetic stripe card, the raw data in each data track may contain start and end sentinel characters.to remove those characters, you can select the configure MSR command to parse input raw data and filter out the start and end sentinel characters on each track. 1. Click MSR Setting in the WebDT Keyboard Wedge menu to launch the Msr Parse Format Setting. 2. Choose Enable in the Parse Data section and chose the data you want to parse at the start or end of each track. For example: Check Track 1, in start Sentinel Character, select % ; in end Sentinel Character, select?. 11

12 3. Click OK to complete the setting. 12

13 Configuration Setting Scanner Configuration To add or remove Symbologies, follow the procedures below, 1. Run Start>All Programs>DT Research> Button Manager>ScannerConfig to launch Scanner Configuration. 13

14 2. Select COM3 and click Connect button. 3. Add required Symbologies by clicking Add>> button or remove non used symbologies by clicking <<Remove button. 4. Select the Beep after scanning barcode checkbox to enable beep sound after scanning barcode or deselect it to disable the beep sound. 5. Click OK to apply the configuration settings and exit the window. Note: Adding only the symbologies you need for testing will give the best results. Adding too many symbologies all at the same time will influence performance. 14
